in matt’s first year with the foxes, he has a tenuous grip on sobriety and is struggling to deal with the constant exposure to casual drug use from then-teammates. when the cousins join, andrew sees matt’s unstable condition and recognises the signs of addiction from his previous experiences with aaron. after getting randy’s permission to help, he takes matt to eden’s twilight in columbia, gets him drunk, and offers him speedballs. accepting the offer causes matt to relapse viciously, but he makes a full recovery with the help of betsy and randy. matt holds no grudge against andrew for what he did; it was extreme, but it worked.
