A short story about Underhunt Papyrus and his struggle to survive.
Next Page.
Here are just some of the indigenous creatures from the Undertale AU Underhunt. My idea was to come up with creatures so unusual and yet familiar, it would make biologist question what they know. Like how a bison that looks like a domesticated species survive and thrive. Or how such creatures could possibly exist. I have yet to draw the giant prehistoric looking birds and reptiles that are so adapted to live underground, they’ve developed without eyes. In fact Underhunt Undyne hunts blind cave crocodiles. I may post that picture eventually.
Underhunt Gaster.
The Royal Biologist and former Chief of the nearly extinct Skeleton Tribe, W.D. Gaster was a lover of nature and continued to educate himself in biology to this day. Due to the decline of the skeleton species, Asgore offered Gaster's tribe sanctuary in the capitol and New Home. However, half the tribe couldn't adapt to city monster life and returned to the bush. Those that did stay began to grow ill and fall down just as if they had been hunted. And worst of all, the tribe began to lose their traditions and purpose. However, all Asgore noticed was "the illness" the skeletons were suffering from. When asked to find the cause, Gaster started doing research on the difference between natural food and city monster food. Gaster was shocked to find that the manufacturers, due to the King's rationing programme were putting too many unhealthy preservative chemicals and fillers in the food for the products to be consumed safely. The worst offender was a bakery run by a spider monster (underhunt Muppet's mother) which made baked goods only to look good, but adamantly insisted their products were edible. So Gaster began to do an experiment with his pregnant wife volunteering to prove that monsters need to continue hunting and eating wild game meat. Gaster, continued his tradition of hunting despite the fact he had to use a Gaster gun and brought home "samples" for his experiments. He even visited farming tribes in waterfall to gather more "samples" for his nutrition reasearch. Eventually, Gaster's wife gave birth to his first son, Sans. The tribe began to regain hope as Gaster´s son was the first babybones to be born alive in years since they moved and stayed in the city. However, Asgore was only convinced by the results of Gaster's experiment to change his mind about forcing the "farming community" to live in the city for their safety. Asgore insisted that the greedy food manufacturers didn't want to lose their livelihood and they honestly were concerned for monsterkind's health. Disgusted by how easily the king was swayed by the smooth talking, money grubbing food manufacturers, Gaster continued his research. He and his wife continued refusing city rations encouraging the remainder of the tribe still in the city to do the same. Soon Asgore was convinced enough to shut down all the food manufacturers except the Temmie Flakes factory and the Spider Bakery. This was the start of the Royal Huntsmen.
Soon, the tribe began to go back to hunting, bringing back food to the city. Then Gaster got some more good news. His wife was pregnant again. Thanks to the healthy diet Gaster's wife gave birth an even healthier and stronger baby which they named Papyrus. But it was not to last as Gaster, wanting to show his sons the wilderness on one of his expeditions, was ambushed by poachers. Gaster was taken alive, but his wife however was dedusted and killed for her skull and limb bones. Gaster soon spent his days in a cage, having been sold to carnies as a side show freak. He grieved for his wife's death and worried about the safety of his children. Because he continued many spiritual practices, he could tell his sons were still alive through a magical bond his tribe traditionally performed at the time of birth. He attempted communicating, but because of the distance he was taken away his astral form was distorted and terrifying, Particularly for Papyrus who would later start to believe that his own father was Napstablook's mean cousin that likes to scare him.
Thankfully, Gaster was finally freed when the the side show was shut down for mistreatment of both people and animals. Gaster was unable to return home due to the number of monster hunters living on Mt. Ebott, but his story had made it harder for poachers to sell monster parts legally and went on to liberate other monsters captured for shameless exploitation. The first five he liberated joined in his cause and became affectionately known as his "followers".
Christmas In the Underhunt universe. Presents are usually made or “recycled” items. But sometimes, despite how happy the brothers are, the other members of the tribe briefly feel bad about the two of them not having children of their own to celebrate with.
Underhunt Papyrus Multiverse Nickname: Archer
Orphaned at the age of only 8 months old, Archer has no memory of his kind, caring mother or his father W.D. Gaster. HIs only surviving family member, Sans did his best to take care of him. Thankfully, they were adopted by a family of dog monsters and became part of the Snowdin Tribe, a tribe united after the death of the king’s son, Asriel. Papyrus continued to be cared for by his brother in spite of the fact that Sans was only six years old. As Archer got older, he grew stronger and heathier than his brother. Archer never stopped drinking milk and is particularly fond of cave bison milk because of its sweetness. Because the cold didn’t bother him, Archer would wear very little clothes, usually only wearing a tunic made of zebra jackal hides which he eventually outgrew and started to wear as a loincloth. But sometimes Archer would wear a cave wolf pelt, which was given to him to wear by his brother after his initiation hunt and play, pretending to be a wolf.
Archer only started wearing the wolf pelt more often when he was initiated as a hunter at the age of 18, eight years older than other monsters during initiation. For a long time, Archer hunted for the tribe, making no time to seek either some females to mate with or marry one or two. Archer even doubted that he would be able to have children if he chose the wrong female, believing that only a female skeleton would bear him any children. And it was because of this rarity of skeletons, he hadn’t started the family he hoped to have someday and when he goes into musk, he goes to a private place to avoid confrontation. Even in heat, Archer doesn’t like to start fights with other monsters. Archer tends to avoid humans, particularly the only ones that usually come to the underground which are hunters and poachers with high amounts of LOVE. Archer can tell when they are around because his amazingly keen sense of smell, a trait most monsters have from a heathy, preservative-free diet. Whenever he smells the stench of decaying meat and monster dust, he knows it’s the scent of a human hunter. However, those with low LOVE levels he will not recognize as humans until he starts noticing their similarities. Because of an incident that nearly ended his life, Archer cannot sleep unless his brother, or something with his brother’s scent is close to him. If his brother is not snuggled up to him or if he’s not wrapped up in either a fur of a piece of fabric that smells of his brother while he sleeps, Archer would have nightmares and wake up having a PTSD episode, usually curling up in a fetal position begging to not be eaten.
Archer’s preferred weapon is a bow made from a bone. Because monsters have to reserve their magic, they use enchanted weapons that make it less wasteful to use “bullet” attacks. Archers bow and larger bone arrows are enchanted with blue magic.
Underhunt Mettaton.
The star of nature and wildlife documentaries in the underground. Also owns the only preservative free restaurant in Hotland (other than Sans’ game meat sausage stand). Shows went downhill since his best documentary about endangered species of snails. Very few monsters outside Hotland and The Capital have seen his shows.
