Zaisan Memorial
Staring at the city from Zaisan memorial, can't help but wonder what Mongolia would be like today without the previous soviet presence. Would eastern neighbours be occupiers. Chinese ruled Mongolia for over 200 years until the fall of the Manchus in 1911. Within just a few years a communist government takes control, subservient to the Soviet Union. USSR breaks apart in early 90s and Mongolia strives to emerge a democracy, sitting on top a mound of wealth, scratching its head on how to retain functional independence. I think its been a rough ride for Mongolia, but looking out above UB, here it is!
