Ugly is an archetype based on deviations from what is idealized under white supremacy and capitalism as desirable. Many of us deviate from cis white Hetero able bodied youthfulness and we are treated poorly. Some people find us ugly. It’s important that we do not internalize this to mean we are less significant in the world. People are further marginalized due to their appearance. The way we look impacts our social location and people who don’t have beauty privilege are denied access to varying degrees. It’s not in your head. People treat you fucked up when they find you less attractive. It’s not just a matter of confidence or your perception of self. The key is we don’t have to internalize ugly. We can acknowledge it as part of a value system and we can reject that value system entirely. Fill your world with people that value you and treat you amazingly. You deserve every good thing.
