The tears in his eyes… they warm my heart!
Anybody has some modern AUs rec? Preferably 20k+ words, preferably Merthur/Merwaine but not necessary. Your girl need something to read but is hella indecisive goddamit!
(1/3) "Dean learned to be a grown up far too quickly...And when we see Dean opening up more, I don’t think it’s because he’s learning that it’s okay for men to be open and softer, I think it’s because he’s learning that he doesn’t always have to be the strong one for Sam (and everyone else)." Exactly. I don't think gender plays much of a role in this particular scenario. This reminds me of a comment I read once that Dean "never got to grow up". It's true. He missed out on most of the crucial
process of growing up necessary for a child to develop into an emotionally and mentally healthy adult. His childhood was taken from him at a very early age. There is a lot that could be explored there but aside from that, it just makes me sad to see others (mostly Sam) roll their eyes when Dean indulges in his childish interests in a way he probably couldn’t when he actually was a child. I especially feel resentful when Sam does it because it was for the sake of Sam’s childhood innocence and safety that Dean’s was sacrificed. Not Sam’s fault, nor do I fault him for not fully understanding the implications of their respective childhoods. That said, however shitty Sam’s childhood was, he had some degree of security and care that allowed him to actually be a child. It was rarely safe for Dean to be a child and I don’t like seeing him begrudged some of that now that he feels safe enough to do so. Anyway, didn’t mean to rant. This conversation just reminded of that comment. -aj
This is such a source of frustration for me, when the people in Dean’s life sort of run over his enjoyment of the more childlike things he loves. For example, I was really frustrated with the Cas at the end of the Scooby episode because Dean was still so excited and Cas’ comments were just a bucket of cold water to his enthusiasm.
I think it was meant to be funny but it really wasn’t if you love to see Dean having fun. I get frustrated when Sam does that too. I just want Dean to have someone who always indulges this side of him because he needs to have more simple fun in his life. Which is why, I was so happy to make this set someone requested of Sam being amused/smiling at Dean being a goofball. He does enjoy that side of Dean sometimes and it makes me happy when he does.
If Dean was a cat, what color do you think his pelt would be?
A leopardy type pelt like the bengal cat
because he reminds you of a predator when he’s hunting,
but he’s also just a soft boy who seriously needs a cuddle
I don’t know about you, but I ‘spot’ the similarities!
Okay, but what about
Nico being the one who is protecting Percy.
Percy finding comfort in Nico’s arm after a nightmare with Tartarus.
Nico holding Percy and whispering “It’s okay, I’m here, you are safe.”
Nico stroking Percy’s hair until he can sleep.
Percy saying he can only sleep if Nico is there.
Percy trusting Nico to feel safe.
Percy feeling insecure about his powers and Nico looking at his eyes and saying he’s not scared.
Nico helping Percy with his PTSD.
Percy saying he needs Nico.
Nico with red cheeks after Percy say he’s his guardian angel.
This is honestly the the part of the fandom that I’m waiting to wake up…..
Also, thanks to @takaraphoenix because she is the one who fulfills these cravings and introduced to the wonderful world of nicercy and frazaleo…..
*lol* Literally a summary of every Nico/Percy fic I ever wrote xDDD
This is like a written-down version of my mental checklist of “What to include in a Nicercy story” *snickers*
And @craziestfangirl98, you’re more than welcome ;D

Dean Winchester Seasons 1-9 Sam | Castiel | Crowley
Dean Winchester+Misconceptions: Dean is Dead Inside. (½)
The infamous you’re already dead line from Famine; latched onto, and embraced as evidence that Dean is dead inside. And more specifically, that he fucks and eats and jokes all in the name of covering that up, because that’s the only way he can feel anything, even if it’s just for a moment.
In actuality, the theme of Dean and that yawning hole inside him was put into our minds a season before, right after Dean got back from hell and he was feeling overwhelming guilt for what happened there.
And then we learn where it actually started: after John died and Dean felt so much guilt that he wished he had gone with Tessa the reaper.
So we have a man laden down with guilt and self-loathing, tangled up in how he feels he failed his father, failed Sam and failed to resist thirty years of torture. Not a man who feels nothing at all.
In Season five, when Famine comes to town, we have a man who’s dealing with all of those same feelings, along with the fact that he feels Sam betrayed him, Sam’s demon blood addiction, new feelings of failure after Alastair told him he failed in hell where his father prevailed, and trying to avoid becoming Michael’s vessel. Along with all of that, Dean is trying to stave off the freaking apocalypse. So yes, Dean is dealing with a lot. Dean is sinking toward depression, and he’s hurt and he’s running out of hope. But none of those things mean Dean is dead inside.
He’s a man filled with grief, guilt and self-loathing because of everything he’s been through; because of all the weight that’s been put on his shoulders.
Being empty inside, with hole in your gut is a metaphor for that. It doesn’t mean Dean doesn’t find pleasure in things like his cheeseburgers and his rock music; his car and his ride on Larry the bull. It doesn’t mean Dean fucks to try to feel something.
He didn’t start feeling that hole in the gut sensation until John died, so what was he doing before when he had no gaping hole to fill? The same as he’s doing now: enjoying life where he can, because his life is not a barrel of laughs otherwise. So when Dean finds something he enjoys, he puts everything into it. He continues to do that even when circumstances ramp up his guilt and self-loathing.
But most importantly: Famine is a being who delights in the suffering of others. So, why are we taking his words at face value?
Part Two: A Man Who Feels as Deeply as Dean Feels, Isn’t Dead Inside

Dean Winchester + Fandom Misconceptions: Dean is Emotionally Stunted
A person who is emotionally stunted is someone who: can’t form meaningful relationships, lacks self-awareness, lacks empathy toward others, and is either unwilling or unable to express emotions. (¾)
@thejabberwock Was this in reference to my gifset? In none of those scenes is he being abused by anyone. His mother thinks he’s a demon et al, Sam is Meg, Bobby thinks he’s a demon, Charlie is Dark!Charlie and Cas is being mind-controlled. Not saying he hasn’t actively been abused by his family but those gifs are not part of that. If this wasn’t in reference to that, my apologies. :)
it was inspired by your gif set but unfortunately you’re neither the first nor the last to write that sentence. and yes he is being abused in those scenes. it doesn’t matter whether they were possessed, mindcontrolled, or confused. the end result to dean is the same. intentions are not everything and this particular trope isn’t even about blame (well, other than to the writers for never dealing with the aftermath).
in what world is being horrifically beaten up by entities wearing your loved ones’ faces, or your loved ones under the influence of something supernatural (which can be easily read as a metaphor for drugs/alcohol if you want to go there) not seriously traumatizing? especially when it has happened to this extent. no wonder he doesn’t trust anyone.
and he does fight back. in fact, he was demonized in the narrative for FIGHTING BACK against charlie. and in instances where he is so overpowered that physical strength does not make a difference, he uses his words which he is thankfully very good with. why is fandom so opposed to seeing that as dean fighting to stay alive instead of submitting to the punches because he just loooooves his family so much? why does he need to destroy himself to be praised? just please think about the real life abuse implications that sort of meta creates as well as the complete erasure of dean’s pov and trauma in saying that they “couldn’t help it”, as if that’s all that matters.
and honestly, on some level fandom has to be uncomfortable with it to be working so hard to convince everyone that somehow dean is the one with the power to make it stop and simply chooses not to.
I disagree with your conclusion, probably because that wasn’t the point of the gifset (and perhaps I didn’t express myself well within the caption). Dean does not fight back in the same way when it’s his family attacking him. In 4.01, he used a chair to try to block Bobby from coming close again when Bobby thought he was a demon. A chair. And when it was Mary thinking he was some creature, he let her put him on the ground. Because he wasn’t going to hurt her. And when Meg was wearing Sam’s face, he let himself be overpowered. Seriously, how often is Dean ever overpowered by demons? Rarely. And when he didn’t know it was dark!Charlie, he sat there and didn’t do anything when she came toward him, while in a similar scene he was also lying on the floor with Gordon stalking him, and he laid that fucker out flat.
So, no, Dean doesn’t fight the same when it’s family. And the reason is simple: he doesn’t want to hurt the people he loves. And I love that about him. I love that he wants to protect the people he loves. This was not intended as a dissertation about the abuse Dean has suffered, because he has suffered abuse but that’s not what this was about. This was not about him being destroyed. If this was a set about Dean accepting abuse, then obviously I wouldn’t have tagged it reasons to love dean winchester. That’s not the same thing at all.
I HATE that Dean is abused by people he loves. And yes, he often accepts it and forgives too easily and it pisses me off just like it obviously does for you. But that was not what this was about. It was about protecting people when Dean feels they’re vulnerable/being unwilling to harm someone with excessive violence when they are not themselves. Because in every one of those instance, the people he loves WERE vulnerable. Sam was possessed by a demon, his mother was disoriented and afraid, Bobby was grieving and freaking out, and he didn’t know Charlie was dark so he thought she was messed up from whatever happened in Oz. Do you see where I’m going here? Dean was trying to protect them when he thought they couldn’t protect themselves. And so, yeah, I love that about him.
And just FYI, “in fact, he was demonized in the narrative for FIGHTING BACK against charlie”: Yeah, I hate that too. I don’t think Charlie needed to be quite so damning about it. Sam either. But it actually supports my supposition that Dean is unwilling to fight back when it’s family. When he was fighting her, he wasn’t thinking of her as Real Charlie, but as an enemy. And then when the two were put back together, he felt so guilty because it was like he’d hurt the real Charlie (well, he did but he didn’t mean to hurt good Charlie). Because he never would have wanted to hurt Charlie like that. Did he need to be demonized for it? No. But it made sense within the narrative that Dean would be so appalled at himself because the last thing he wants to do is hurt someone he loves. And maybe you don’t love that about Dean, but I do. Doesn’t mean I support the abuse he’s suffered at the hands of his loved ones.
