Okay I’m actually like irrationally worried I’ve unintentionally whitewashed katara

Like I think the lips are fine, and maybe the eyes, but it’s the nose that’s throwing me off

I will be fixing this immediately bc I was looking at her intently a couple minutes ago and she does in fact have a broader/flatter nose in the show

I’ve recently posted about finding a face for toph, I think I have one for katara now!!

So obviously she has to have the double beauty marks bc she’s double the beauty,, kidding they’re all gorgeous

Anyway

I like to think that all of the gaang would all have thicker/longer eyebrows (minus suki, but hers would still be pretty full except for the fact that I thin them a bit).

She would probably have a straighter nose, idk the names for noses tbh, but still have a buttonish end? Does that make sense idk

Katara gets the full lashes, and her lips are also equally full. As seen in my Toph depiction, her lips are bottom heavy (not that it makes her any less pretty). I’m lowkey still deciding whether katara would have double lids or mono lids tho

Of course my design will look a little different in different angles, as that’s how it works, but i think that I’ve been pretty consistent the last few weeks with her

I lowkey forgot to post it here but I did a suki doodle a couple days ago (and also improved my toph draft today)

I think I didn’t add it bc of the blood, but also it could not? Read as blood?? Idk how to get the mature content warning on here

Okay so I’m going to explain my design choices for toph’s

This is a modern AU. Since I live in America, I tend to go off of American influence when doing modern designs. A lot of designs typecast her as someone in the alternative style, which I definitely agree with, however I wasn’t exactly able to think of a subculture she could belong to. If it were up to me I would be making everyone goths bc I’m a goth, but I digress. Anyway, I wanted to talk about her clothes specifically. You’ll notice that the designs are asymmetrical (more detailing in the front than the sides and back), and that is for a reason. I’m not blind, but I have some trouble with figuring out what the front side of a shirt is and what the back side is, especially when the designs are so similar (I rip out all the tags). I think that adding “landmarks” would be helpful, especially when she can’t see it. So I added a ring to the bottom front of her shirt, fur to the opening of her jacket, and studs to the front of her belt. Also her nails are chipped bc my favorite part about painting my nails is getting to chip the polish off, and I like making characters have similar aspects to me

Suki’s design comes from my Samurai au, this is where she gets her scar. You’ll see that she’s not wearing her samurai stuff yet,, this is bc she’s not one yet. This is set to be when she’s about 15-16. In my samurai au, Suki is around 28 (katara would be 27)

I hope I didn’t insult any blind people with my reasonings, obviously I know that Toph is more than capable of dressing and taking care of herself, but I like to make things accessible :)

I’m practicing with actually paying attention to the features I draw (which I kinda already did before but now I’m expanding on it yk)

what if I asked for more Suki 🤞🏻

Hii I just did some poses with suki today so you are in luck there are 3 sketches

And then a close up of my favorite one

The outfit in these practices is just the ember island one, I think she looks amazing in it

I’ll have to do her Kyoshi warrior one too with Ty Lee, they’ll be so cute together

You didn’t ask but my suki design is incredibly simple, literally the only thing I’ve changed is giving her the tassels as earrings (bc they’re just so fun to draw) and occasionally a bracelet/arm cuff

She’s definitely not as thought out as my Katara designs are (dependent on what canon divergence I want) so I may remedy that, but I do really like her design in the canon so,, might not be much change lmao

How would you think Adult Azula would look in your design?

So drawing these characters in general (aged up I guess) is a bit hard bc outside of actually drawing, my imagination goes like an inch outwards

However

This is what I perhaps came up with

I’d say her hair would still be a bit choppy, and bc I like piercings I added a surface forehead one to her to match in line with her labret

I’m going with the fact that she’s probably only a few years older (ie. 18-19), not like in her 20s, which is why she looks so young in these

I’ll flip the bottom image so I can explain it better

I’d like to think that Azula does keep a lot of characteristics from her original appearance in the show (the armor, the shin guards, etc). She’s still very guarded as a person, and I feel that taking away those measures permanently wouldn’t work for her character. However, making them less constricting might help illustrate her journey of healing (that we see in the comics that I have to read up on..don’t get on me okay)

When I was making this design, although it’s simple, I did have some of her friends’ outfits in mind to integrate. Ty lee’s caplet(??? Idk if that’s what it’s called) is the shape I did for the armor, and the flowy skirt is supposed to resemble Mai’s. Since I am a maizulee truther I do have to put them in every thing with each character it’s required by law

I’m lowkey just spouting bullshit don’t take anything of what I say to heart

I mean I can show some examples?? But like I feel that they don’t have any intimacy at all (in my drawings ofc)

I’ve deleted most of my sketches so this is the one I scrapped but still have in my camera roll

And this is the one I’m working on now :/ idk I don’t think I can just slap blush on them and call it a day so I’ll have to figure out how to convey it with their body language while still staying true to the characters

Which is a bit difficult but I am nothing if not persistent (absolute lie)
