The request was from @nightmoon-shade on tumblr and it was "Qifrey being silly"
I know he's fond of dragons and I wanted to see him play with one somehow so I made him craft a water dragon. But soon in the story he'll have the real thing so :))
Waiting list :
-Drunk Olruggio dancing (I need to train myself for this one, i'm shit at drawing Olly)
-Qifrey sleeping with the kids
I don't take new request right now but you can always put them in the ask box and I'll do them eventually. I'll make post warning of when I'll open my request/doing them. The prompt must be witch hat atelier related.
Here are some of my favorite Orufrey fanfics that I've read recently (in no particular order). Hope you enjoy! :)
⚠️ These fics may contain spoilers so be careful!
Susurrus by DrMiniPie (9k words)
A silverwood tree grows beside the atelier. Five seasons it spends with Olruggio, and one with everyone. One shot.
it feels like i'm going home by qifree (6k words)
“You can touch, y'know.” Qifrey feels Olruggio's breath on his hand, and he wonders if his friend can feel the way his pulse jumps beneath his fingertips.
“Ah, but—” My hands. Qifrey wants to tell him no. These hands have only ever hurt you.
(Or—Qifrey wakes up curse-free and blind. He's not fine, but Olruggio is there, so it's going to be okay—they have the rest of their lives to work through it together, after all.)
unchanging earth by DailyMelody (8k words)
His breath passes through his body in cycles, and he allows himself to focus on it. The stretch in his muscles as his chest expands and back widens. Each inhale seems to unravel something in him, allowing the tension to bleed from his body.
Once more he observes Olruggio’s features, taking in the color of his eyes — an intriguing shade that reminds him of a star-filled sky — and the harsh line of his mouth. He observes the dark strands that fall across his forehead, the cut of his jawline, the bridge of his nose.
I want him and this life we built together.
I want to live.
or: qifrey learns to rebuild. olruggio is by his side.
we should just kiss like real people do by qifree (2k words)
“Are you really in such a rush to get up?” Olruggio asks him, leaning in close to drop a kiss onto his forehead. He tilts his head just slightly to whisper into his ear, “Really? What's out there that's so much better than stayin’ in bed?”
(Or—it does get better. Olruggio makes sure of it.)
Climbing Ivy by Grimmseye (3k words)
Olruggio rumbled. He could feel the vibration in his chest, from Olruggio’s to his own. “I’m not leaving you,” he said, voice gruff and fumbling. “I don’t — I want — you know I’ve wanted to hug you too, right?”
He sounded terribly embarrassed. Qifrey giggled, half in endearment and half mind-numbing relief. “Right,” he murmured, fingers relaxing by a fraction. “Sorry. You used to be so affectionate with your hands.”
Anything to Be With You by Imalittlestitious (22k words)
After decades of pining, Olruggio and Qifrey were finally together. But keeping the relationship a secret from four kids and all of their friends and acquaintances was more difficult than they anticipated. Especially since they can't seem to keep their hands off of each other.
or
5 times Qifrey and Olruggio tried to be intimate and failed and the one time they succeeded.
I Have Desired to Go by DrMiniPie (9k words)
The fighting is over; the atelier has been destroyed. It's time to build a new home, and there's room for everyone…that is, if everyone wants it.
Okay, Let's Go Home by LillyPillyBeetle (7k words)
Olruggio leaves the atelier after finding out about Qifrey's betrayal, and Agott is the one to bring him home.
return, return, return to me by LavenderTeaCat (18k words)
The end begins on a beautifully average day, the kind that Qifrey has started tucking away as fond memories before they’re even over, knowing that there can’t be all that many more.
OR: Qifrey finds himself trapped in a timeloop he created when trying to find a way to spare Olruggio’s memories. Getting out turns out to be more difficult than he’d ever imagined.
a cycle on pause by drifloon (3k words)
"You know, I always thought I'd live somewhere with lots of people around," Olruggio tells him. The wine in his vessel is a rich pink colour. Qifrey made them olives and cheese with cabroccoli wrapped in ham for a late-night snack, but the pleasure was in the making, not in the eating. He sips his own vessel, listening. "But it's really nice out here, isn't it? Peaceful. Good for focussing."
"I think you would be even more of a hermit, if you had the choice," Qifrey says. "Lost in your work for weeks on end."
Olruggio looks sheepish, rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand. "You're probably right. I never thought I'd be that kind of person, either… weird how much things change, isn't it?"
"And how much they stay the same," Qifrey murmurs.
A temporary fix-it.
when the sun and moon and stars are gone, what's left is only you by lesqueers (5k words)
Qifrey tries to catalogue all of the places they touch, reminding himself that the contact is no longer dangerous. Olly’s nose is slotted against his temple, fingers having moved from between his shoulders to the base of his head. There’s a slight tickle where the hair on his chin brushes against Qifrey’s cheek. The other arm is wrapped loosely around his middle, squeezing against his tunic. Their legs aren’t exactly tangled, but he can feel Olruggio’s calf against his own, a bony knee against his thigh, and the press of something warm and firm against his hip. His own body is an unfortunate mirror, the hour still early and the closeness still unfamiliar. - or; how does a man who has only ever deprived himself of wanting allow himself to lust?
petrichor in return by blueberrysushi (56k+ words) - WIP 🪶
Qifrey knew of the risks with this procedure. But if, in exchange for his sight, he were to get his future back?
The choice has never been more easy to make.

Aka, a post-canon au in which Qifrey becomes fully blind
When Change and Tears are Past by DrMiniPie (16k+ words) - WIP 🪶
Is it better, is it easier to forget, in the end? After two perilous rescues, what will become of Qifrey and Olruggio, and all they know?
Post-canon/canon-divergent orufrey (and their loved ones!); will add/adjust tags as needed.
I sketch everyday but I'll probably won't post anything tomorrow because I won't be home.
I won't take new request for the moment. If you have any, you could always put them in the ask box but I can't guarantee that I'll do them soon. I only do drawings related to witch hat atelier.
more theories/evidence about memory wipes + silver trees + qifrey + olruggio + coco + tower of tomes
me and @ladysdork have been chatting about the olly knows theory tonight and i think we came across something super interesting.
MORE EVIDENCE THAT OLLY KNOWS AND NEVER LOST HIS MEMORIES OF THE SILVERTREE AND COCO WILL BE THE ONE TO GET HIS SILVERTREE CURE OVER THE LINE. i think olly's lying to qifrey's face the whole time about losing his memories. he promises qifrey he'll never have to lie to him again. and what's a lie only a friend would tell? one that saves his life. that keeps him safe. i have a more in depth post about that here if you're interested.
there's a scene i hadn't even considered as relevant until now. the scene when coco runs away to the tower of tomes in chapter 37.
first of all, who ends up being there. just coco, qifrey, and olruggio. cause olly blows beldaruit away lmao. qifrey collects coco, coco "saves" qifrey, and olly protects the window way. and throws that explodey rock at the sea serpent.
the tower of tomes is where qifrey first turns into the silvertree, where olly ~gives up his memories.
so basically the theory is this. when olruggio first goes into the tower of tomes, he IS searching for a silverwood tree cure, not a memory spell, but all the documents he could use for that are missing. qifrey says this. that the documents about the forest have somehow been destroyed that could easily include silverwood info. and olly's running out of time, so instead he comes up with the memory wipe idea as a stop gap because he's going to have to start a silverwood tree cure from scratch. how many times do we see olly invent something for qifrey. a lot the glow rings, the snugstone. so olly has an almighty task of finding a cure.
we see olly's reactions to coco's creative ideas a few times in the story, and despite being a creative and talented witch himself, he's always floored by her ideas.
when coco runs away to the tower in ch 38, what does she do? she doesn't choose the tower, she doesn't choose the great hall, she chooses qifrey. she's going to get to the tower of tomes and choose qifrey again later in the story. i think she goes there with olruggio.
the tower didn't provide an answer for olruggio, but there is hope. the child of hope. coco. just like iguin calls her.
and here we have olly talking about hope too. that we can still change qifrey back, that there's a better way.
and the thing that really stopped me in my tracks was this parallel.
coco running to the tower in ch 37.
olly running to the tower in chapter 92
these panels are so incredible similar. same pose, wind blowing their robes, the tower in the distance. who are the two people we see qifrey treeing out from? olruggio and coco.
and what if this is the glowstone path connection between olruggio and coco. what if olruggio originally created the path for qifrey and then in turn that path leads coco to olruggio. that path is the reason coco falls in love with magic. if coco doesn't fall in love with magic, olly never saves qifrey. olruggio needs coco's creativity and her perspective having come to magic as an outsider.
and olruggio's not just a beacon of light for qifrey, he's a beacon of light for magic, for coco. his glowstone path is a beacon of light. a light in the dark, a guiding torch.
and this part is more speculation but i think it plays out like this. olruggio finds out coco knows about the tree. he trusts her and fills her in on what he did all those years ago outside the tower of tomes. he fills her in on all his research he's been doing for decades. he's been building a cure from scratch and this is where he's at. he's stuck and has been for years. it's why he doesn't take care of himself. it's why his cloak is so heavy. so he doesn't forget the weight of the secret he's carrying.
olruggio's specialty is fire. he's going to default to using fire to fix qifrey. so him and coco start working together. in the dead of night to hide this from qifrey. if qifrey learns olly knows, it's all over. however, qifrey does pick up on those two spending more time together and eventually grows suspicious.
olruggio is the one to take coco to the tower of tomes. however, qifrey follows them. finds them before they go in, learns of their plans, and promptly turns into a silvertree. olly and coco are in a time crunch again. coco goes into the tower, chooses qifrey in whatever way. (i don't think she'd choose qifrey over her mom i think she finds a way for both things) comes back out and has the missing piece olly needs for his spell.
we see him create a fireball that doesn't burn humans. he's the master of fire, the cure is going to be burning that tree out of qifrey. it'll burn the tree, but not the human. and what wand do we specifically see olruggio use in the story? a wand that sears seals into wood.
olruggio burns the seal into the wood and they get rid of the silvertree for good and they got there because of coco. because olruggio created the glowstone path for qifrey that made coco love magic, the path led coco to olruggio, and coco is why olruggio can save qifrey.
I have a major theory that explains why every action taken by the Knights Moralis actually makes sense, and why this is all one massive Chekhov's gun that has been set up since the very beginning of the manga.
Kamome Shirahama is known for building the world of Witch Hat Atelier down to the patterns carved into furniture. She planted the Silver Tree plotline ten years ago. But why would she write the Knights Moralis so poorly? In the manga they are portraited as very evil antagonists whose only purpose is to stand in the way of children trying to do good.
(English is my second language, so I'm sorry for my mistakes)
Everything they do starts to make sense if we assume that there is some kind of Force / Entity / Powerful Magic above humans and witches. It either intimidates and controls the world, or at times shows it favor.
However, the only people who know about it are the two sages and Vinanna's successor (and probably the king as well).
Lagrah had only just assumed his position. It was literally his first day on the job, so nobody had time to tell him.
Now, let's take a look:
Chapter 57 ^
It's the first chapter in which the Knights Moralis are the focus of the story. Almost immediately Easthies nearly lets it slip that they are not the ones to make the final decisions.
But there is no authority above the knights in Zozah.
If not you, then who?
Chapter 75 ^
The next time we hear about this is three years later.
This is the chapter where Coco tries to convince everyone to use the Time Reversal spell against the leech. Vinanna doesn't like the idea. She is surprised that Beldaruit, of all people, approved it. He should have understood the consequences of using the forbidden magic.
Then Vinanna says a coded phrase that only the two of them know. As the second sage, Beldaruit immediately understands what she is referring to. Neither Coco nor we, the readers, do.
This is the first mention of the "Anomaly" (I'll call it like that, based on Chapter 97).
To witness this Anomaly either means to receive permission to use forbidden magic (keep this point in mind, it will be important when we get to Easthies), or, conversely, to be reminded of the consequences of doing so.
Vinanna chooses the first version.
Chapter 80^
When this chapter came out, we started thinking (well, I did) that Easthies had some deep trauma related to forbidden magic.
We thought that it was PTSD. That he snapped, attacked people and even his superiors while being confused. And that once we we had learned about his past, we would have cried, forgiven and loved him.
NO.
Remember that Easthies is the only person present, aside from Beldaruit and Vinanna, who knows about this Force/Anomaly in the sky. And what It will do to them, if people start using forbidden magic on a large scale.
He was so terrified that he immediately rushed to erase the memories of everyone involved as soon as he heard the plan. At the same time, he wasn't erasing all of their memories. Only connected to that day's forbidden magic.
And as we learned from chapter 97, he did it with a clear mind, fully aware of his actions.
To him, it is better to let the leech devour the city than to allow whatever is above them to happen.
"What is it that burdens you?" Lulucy asks.
And behind Easthies we see a serious and tired Beldaruit, who, like Easthies, carries the burden of knowing what hangs above them.
The question is addressed to both of them.
Chapter 79 ^
Why did I ask you to remember what I said about Vinanna earlier?
Vinanna had seen the Anomaly and knew that the permission to use the forbidden magic had been given that night.
But she didn't have time to tell Easthies.
In fact, she was trying to tell him right in the chapter. We just didn't realize what she was trying to say at the time.
Easthies decided that his captain had lost her mind. That he was the only sane person left who could still save everyone. And so he attacked Vinanna without even listening to her.
And that's the only thing he was condemned for. Otherwise, he wouldn't have faced any consequences for his rampage.
Attacked civilians and erased people's memories?
Pfff fair
Vinanna completely understands his actions and would have done exactly the same thing herself, if the Anomaly in the sky hadn't given her permission to break the law.
That's how terrifying this thing hanging above them is.
The Scales ^
Throughout the entire manga we're constantly reminded how important the balance between humans and witches is. Otherwise, something terrible will happen. But we're never told exactly what.
(The Anomaly in the sky will punish them. That's what.)
Beldaruit's entire arc with King Deanreldy revolves around this.
Beldaruit knows what consequences the Anomaly will bring, if that balance is lost, and he does everything he can to oppose the king.
The manga tells us that after the Silver Night the scales tipped in favor of the witches because they were the ones who saved everyone.
And that was before...
Chapter 88 ^
THE KING KNELT BEFORE THE WITCHES.
Lagrah doesn't understand what's happening. Beldaruit, on the other hand, is absolutely horrified.
He wasn't this frightened even when the entire city was being devoured by the Leech.
The balance has been completely destroyed.
He's the only person currently conscious who understands the consequences and can see the guillotine hanging above them.
(Vinanna is unconscious, Easthies has been knocked out with sleeping powder, and Lagrah is a newby.)
It's unknown whether the King knew about this Force above them. What kind of power does something have to possess to terrify even a Sage?
Chapter 97 ^
Vinanna finally speaks about the Anomaly directly and says that it absolutely cannot be ignored.
The Sages have their secrets. So does Vinanna, and she will share them only with her future successor.
Easthies is depressed, sitting alone in his quarters.
No position. No support. No understanding. But even so, he doesn't regret his actions. And he is still prepared to erase the memories of an entire city, if that's what it takes to save the world from whatever is threatening it.
WHAT is it?
He's not a fanatic. He simply knows too much and can't tell anyone else. (Even if you take away his pudding.)
Conclusion:
We have some kind of Anomaly that terrifies the Sages, and the Sages, in turn, terrify everyone else in an attempt to save the world.
But we can only piece this together through the clues scattered throughout the story.
So if erasing the memories of an entire city is safer than leaving things as they are, then erasing the memories of a twelve-year-old girl at the very first sign of forbidden magic is even more justified.
The world is falling apart.
The Knights are trying to keep it from plunging into the abyss.
The Brimhats are swinging the scales around.
The Anomaly officially exists.
And it turns out I wasn't losing my mind for the last fifty chapters.
Thank you all for coming to my TED Talk.
