[The next-to-last week, if you can believe it. Personally, I cannot.Â
We made plated desserts, which isn’t exactly my specialty since I’m bad at making things pretty enough to meet French expectations. I’m not an artist, I’m a cook. But I did my best, and I can say that each was delicious.]
[Finally finally finally, the three cakes/desserts that I made with my partner this week. I know how to cook the others that I just posted since I have the recipes and I saw the demos from our chef and the teams who made them, but here are the three that I created with my own hands:]
Arborio jasmin: biscuit coco avec un coeur de confit de passion et riz au lait jasmin dessus.
[Arborio jasmin: coconut cake with a core of passionfruit confit and jasmin rice pudding on top]
[Ok and finally, this week we made 16 different types of little cakes. The class was divided in 5 groups, and each group made at least 3. I’m going to add a picture of each, if you want to look at them:]
Baba au citron vert, menthe et fraise
[“baba” cake w/ lime, mint, and strawberry]
Entremet sophia: un cercle de biscuit chocolat et de croustillant cajou, puis mousse alpaco avec une insertion de confit fraise.Â
[Sophia entremet: a circle of chocolate cake and cashew crunch, then milk chocolate mousse with a core of strawberry confit.]
[We also learned candymaking. I can offer you better quality pictures this time thanks to my partner from that week, Sayda Rapalo, from whom I stole these images. We made these treats together, but my phone can never get the job done. For the descriptions:]
- “Tête de linotte” entremet: an insert of brownie and caramel cream, suspended in a milk chocolate mousse, surrounded by little shortbread squares.]
From now I’m going to post a bunch of pictures of my pastries and what I’m learning here at ENSP for those who want to see it. I don’t really want to post them on Facebook, so I’m doing it here, where people can decide to unfollow me if they wish. Each of these posts will have the tag ENSP.]
Ok I apologize to those who read (or were reading) this blog--I promise I’m still alive and even still in France. After my camera got stolen, I lost motivation to continue this. For the most part you’re just my family and friends who already know what I’m doing from Facebook or our own conversations, but in case there’s anyone who doesn’t know me and follows this anyway, here’s an update too short and limited to really summarize the last four months. If you’re interested:
-I did fail that Human Resources Management exam that I talked about a few months ago. I panicked, but thankfully my university will accept the grade anyway since the French grading system is so harsh.
-My parents visited me. I served as their guide in Nantes, where their lack of French scared them. Then we went to Rome together, and finally we all cried like children at the airport when they left.
-Then I spent a crazy month of travels everywhere: Grenoble, then Paris, then Dublin and Howth, then London, then Berlin, then Barcelona, then Alicante, then Graz, then Austria, then Paris and Grenoble again, and finally I arrived in Yssingeaux, where I am currently sitting.
-During that month, I couchsurfed at the apartment of 5 crazy young Brazilians in Dublin, I slept in an airport, I took 3 AM buses two times after to avoid doing it again, I partied until 5 AM three nights in a row with impossibly beautiful Spanish ladies, I ate the best kebap of my life in Berlin even though it destroyed my stomach after, I fell in love with my airbnb host in Barcelona, I was able to see some Erasmus friends again in London, in Berlin, and in Graz, and I finished it by having a rest in Grenoble with the best host family in the world.
[For those who are’t my friends on Facebook (very few):
My old camera that I use for the pictures I post here was stolen in Paris...
So I don’t know what I’m going to do for pictures here because my phone camera’s useless. This blog, which was already not too interesting, is going to become even more boring--no pictures, only text.]
