Hi! Welcome to my page which is sort of a digital diary/inspiration dump/place for sharing things I made that I'm proud of. I won't be sharing my face or my name but I figured maybe you would like to get to know me a little if you clicked on my url:

i'm studying Computational Linguistics at uni

things I'm really into: travelling, cooking and eating, reading (really big Black Butler and Lord of the Rings fan), gaming, drawing (tho not as much as I used to) and horses

i'm bisexual and got a funky little adhd diagnosis

I will make sure to tag all my posts to make it easer for myself and everyone who isn't interested in all the topics I just mentioned. In general you can mostly expect pretty pictures and lyrics/quotes I think. But we'll see :)

studying computational linguistics since 2022 is a complete fever dream because my first welcome-event was all about how we do machine translation and search engines and then a few weeks/months in everyone was like "haha look at this cool new tool ChatGPT" and then suddenly after a year it became "okay we only talk about ChatGPT now" and then it became apparent that all available jobs for the next 5 years are just "can you program us a chatbot into our website it will solve all of our problems" (no and no) and now it seems to be just plain ethically wrong to ever do any actual work in the field because of the environmental impact and how generative ai actively kills critical thinking and creativity and honestly this is not what I signed up for and I deeply regret ever leaving humanities for this even if the job chances might technically be better

Butcher by Joyce Carol Oates - ★★★⯪

For the first time in a while I picked up a book at the bookstore and immediately read it as I needed entertainment for what turned out to be not one but four train journeys in a span of a week. It follows the (fictional, but inspired by real people) biography of Silas Weir, a rather unsuccessful doctor in the mid-19th century who managed to gain fame by experimenting on female asylum patients. It is gruesome, but in a very clinical way as the story is in most parts told by Silas Weir himself, who obviously believes that he has done nothing wrong ever. Only few parts of the story are told by the female patients themselves, however I do think that it was very important to add that nuance to the book. I liked the subtlety of the gruesomeness, the way in which the reader knows that what is happening is wrong but isn't always told so to their face. It also didn't feel too brutal but rather kept in a (shockingly) realistic scope of what could have or had actually happened in medical institutions in the past. The book also contains a lot of commentary on slavery and indentured servitude which doesn't always perfectly integrate into the story. In general I thought it was an entertaining and thought-provoking read, but the story itself sometimes didn't come together very smoothly but rather felt like it was puzzled together and the characters also weren't as fleshed out as I would have liked them to be, especially towards rhe end. Overall a 3.75 star read and a recommendation for those who like subtle narratives.
