I'd never heard the term cassgender before, but it fits really well! Indifference towards gender might make more sense then an absence of it, now that I think about it, hmm
I really, really like the idea that mega evolution is what made Colress start to pursue the potential of pokemon. Feels like a neat little explanation for why he's even mentioned in the Kalos region, like it's a conclusion we're supposed to draw. It never occurred to me how mega evolution could be seen as part of a pokemon's "true potential", but now I see it (especially since that mechanic flips back and forth between the games on whether or not it's brought about by strong friendship, and thus painless, or forced by the mega stone, resulting in pure agony. Feels like a familiar crossroads, when looked at like that)
Also, it's interesting how most people hc Colress to be estranged from his family in some way. He just has that vibe I suppose 🤔
I love the idea that Beheeyem is more of an assistant then a battle pokemon, since it explains why he doesn't use her at the Battle Tree in a way that isn't just 'he put her in the box'. I've always thought his Wearable Console was designed to resemble Beheeyem to make up for the fact she's missing from his team (especially since it beeps constantly), and now I'm thinking it would have been really neat if Beheeyem followed Colress around in the overworld. Like, as a bit of a hint to him having pokemon that are just, around, and not for furthering his research. Just a lil' buddy
Colress's sleep pattern probably seems erratic to everyone else but he has it down to a science, mostly. Makes his voice lines in pokemas about staying up all night a little less concerning at least (he's way too energetic for someone who keeps pulling all-nighters, what is he even doing)
I've always wondered what happened to the frigate post-BW2, but it being confiscated and destroyed does unfortunately make sense. I figured he kept it around in SUMO, hence why you can't find him outside the Battle Tree (he's just, on the ship, doin' science), but that didn't really work as an explanation in USUM since he has a hotel room. Alas, it will be missed (it was a really cool ship)
Him having aphantasia is an interesting idea! That could also explain why he carried that tablet thing around in BW2, outside the obvious reason of recording research data. Typing on it seems kinda inconvenient, even when it's fully extended, but it seems like Colress, at least in pokemas, uses it primarily to pull up visuals. The screen is full of nondescript cubes
I like to think in this scenario he swapped his name because he didn't want to hear it get completely butchered every time someone tried to talk to him. Kinda just dumbed it down for his coworkers. Like when someone goes into a food establishment and gives an obviously simple name like "john" to avoid the struggle (also helps that it would technically be an alias)
There is something going on with him, we will just never know what. And neither will he
Love the hc that he has a major sweet tooth. No idea where it comes from, but I see it around a lot and I agree very much
The blue light sensitivity is something I also considered! It would make sense, but be a little unfortunate given how frequently he looks at screens. And how blue is like, His Color (despite his name)
I really like the idea of him using friendship boosting ball types specifically since it's technically a shortcut for his research, but I also think he'd probably use a variety at some point, just to check how much of a boost it actually is for his studies. I also also wouldn't doubt if he's checked how easy it is to decrease friendship when a pokemon is caught in a luxury ball, just out of curiosity (the pokespe inspiration is great)
He types so fast it's also probably more convenient anyway, rather then writing by hand. I imagine he might forget to include words if he goes fast enough, though that'd be an issue with both mediums, perhaps
Definitely seems the type to leave things cluttered but have a system for it, especially taking into account the beloved burger TCG card. Dude's desk is a mess but he still seems to know where to find things. Anyone who attempts to work with him probably struggles a lot--where is anything even at, man, why is there a great ball next to the protoboard??
Not sure if ambidextrous was meant here, but honestly both work (if ambiamorous was the right word then calling relationships a task is both hilarious and very fitting for him--he would see them that way lmao) He has two hands regardless
I like the idea that he's easy to startle just because it means the protagonist of USUM probably could have poked him in the back mid-ramble and he might have fallen off the balcony lmao. He's definitely not aware of his surroundings when he's in science mode
Colress using people's desire to connect just for info feels super canon honestly. He's not here for friendship, he just wants to study it. If that means being nice to someone, maybe holding their hand for a bit, he'll do it. Business partners is such an apt way to put it, I can only imagine someone who considers him a friend overhearing him say that, oof
Dude is a vampire. But at least being unable to stand the heat gives him the excuse to build a pretty neat water-cooled coat, and ramble about it's components in detail to random locals in a pokemon hospital. Completely sensible and normal behavior. Going to pokemon Hawaii, where it's hot af, was a totally sane and smart decision, look at this cool coat, it really is a cool coat. It's water cooled. And a fidget toy
Colress probably does know multiple languages, huh. I hadn't really considered that, but now I am, and that means he could potentially go anywhere. His drive for knowledge will probably take him all over the place. If he has to learn a whole new language just to be understood while he yaps, so be it. He will do it, and that's kinda terrifying
All the little chromaship tidbits are really sweet!! Borrowing pokemon is just really wholesome to me, I love that idea so much. Colress may claim he only has an Alolan Muk for scientific purposes, but we all know he has a soft spot now smh (it's also an object based-pokemon! Took a while to realize that, but it fits his team theming as well!)
I adore how the fidgeting ties into gentle contact, as well as how the maintenance on the Console shows genuine trust! If the Console is one of Colress's proudest achievements, then letting someone else assist with it just feels intimate in a super fluffy way aaaa
Also how dare he not like orange sodas/juices, those things are the bomb smh smh
All really neat hc's!! Seems like a lot of our ideas for him are along the same lines. It's always nice hearing other people's thoughts on him (they can be wildly different and I think that's great) ^^
