SLIME-KUNNNNN!!!
To surmise the episode, slime-kun and the wolves are traveling over to the city where it is slightly revealed that the people there discriminate against the Monsters. I realize that it has been coming since I read the summary, but it’s still a good concept to use. Unfortunately, the thugs outside of the gate seem to be the ONLY ones aside from the hesitation of a few guards that really carry the trait of monster racism.
In all honesty, after the first episode, I feel like the show is on a slow decline. I enjoyed how they kind of subverted the trapped in another world genre, but I feel like it has slipped back into the niche right there after. This could be seen with the aforementioned only surface level use of monster racism. Not only that, but I’ve been thinking that with this episode that everything seemed WAY to well placed. For example, the healing salve, while alright for the goblins, it seems to always be in the perfect place to help the guard captain help his buddies. And he happens to be perfectly fair and have good character and not be racist despite the world apparently being racist to monsters… and then the guard captain agrees to help them see a black smith who JUST SO HAPPENS to be friends with the people that Slime-kun saved… and Blacksmith-san just so happens to be in need of materials that he has, IN TOP QUALITIES. You can see where I’m going with this. It feels contrived. The same can be said with the whole “don’t you want revenge scene with the son of the chief direwolf. With that being said… I still enjoy the anime. It’s just that this episode gave me “smart phone” flashbacks… now that I think about it, “Great Sage-san” is like the slime version of smartphone… interesting. I hope that this show can bounce back in EP 5. It’s just that I can imagine many other better ways that this anime can take shape… for now, we will see how it pans out.
On another topic, should I give my take on the highly debated High Guardian Spice? I know people have been poking it for the trailer and all of that, but I would like to take a good look at the stuff they do give us, no matter how little it is.
I read the light novel up to volume 2. And one of the selling points of it is that the slime is Overpowered. So if you don’t enjoy things being convenient... you might not enjoy this? Emphasis on the word “Might”. Basically, don’t go into this expecting some epic, super deep plot.
