Old Jed's } Claudette; Shanna
Claudette had heard of the infamy of Old Jedâs Cellar, mostly through the men that past her during the day. She had seen men fight before, whether it was for pleasure or to settle a score. Unlike most women, Lorraine included, she took quite an interest in watching as these brawls happened. And that interest was the very thing that had drawn her away from her room and out on the streets on this night. Holding her head high as she walked past the men that either cat-called or regarded her with a predatory gaze due to her race, she was thankful when she caught sight of another woman not too far ahead of her.Â
Quickening her pace, kicking up rocks as she did so, Claudette was grateful to see that it was Shanna. One of the few women sheâd come to meet in this town. âI take it you like to watch men get their lights punched out as well,â she asked, hoping that the woman was going in the same direction that Claudette had intended.
Shanna had missed the crowds, the people and the fact that there were actual resources in the towns she passed so now and then. The past couple of years she had lived on charity and what she found on the road. That and sometimes having to do what she had to do in order to get money. Mining wasn't exactly in her fortĂŠ with those slender arms of her. But one thing she hadn't missed had been the noise that the people created after dark. She hadn't been able to get any sleep despite it having been days that she had been laying on a warm and comfortable bed. Instead she got dressed, didn't even bother to put her hair up properly and so only used a pin, and then left outside. She heard what was happening around and about and headed to something she was certain of would amuse her dearly when someone caught up with her, talking to her. And she recognized the woman from earlier the afternoon.Â
"Yes as matter of fact I am. Shall we go together and laugh at them?"
Damn thing.
Fiddlinâ with it for a quarter of an hour has done me no good. Have at it, uh, Miss âŚÂ ?
Oh dear. I suppose I really should help you, non? Shoshanna. Shoshanna Le Blanc. I am new here.Â

It was as though Jack was playing the role of the rope in a game of tug-of-war within the saloon, but no matter which direction he was pulled, he always spoke with a warm and welcome smile and worked swiftly, though he was not often greeted with equally friendly responses from those he tended to. Women that werenât sold for the night like livestock in his saloon were a rare sighting (especially a woman in pantaloons), but Jack didnât treat the situation as such, moving down the bar he was placed behind to get closer and hear whatever she wanted to have to drink. âWelcome to the waterinâ hole,â he was able to speak before taking her coins, smiling politely and turning just to sling up a drink known by the name of Tarantula Juice⌠It was some pretty strong, vile-tasting liquor. âWhat makes âya want to drink this stuff, maâam? Even the miners only go drinkinâ it âless somethinâ bad happened down in the mines âr somethinâs going on in their houses.âÂ
Shanna managed to give the man a smile when he welcomed her to the saloon instead of saying something she was certain of anyone else would say to her. Instead waiting for the drink until he put it down on the bar, but left it untouched as the man had asked her a question. "I have been travelling for zhe past two years. " She started explaining. "Looking for something I don't know if it exists but I know I cant stop because I made a promis." She breathed out, turning the glass on the table as she stared at the liquid. She could imagine from his stories that it was very strong. She didn't even have a place to stay. "You don't happen to know a place where I could spend the night, monsieur? I am new in zhis town. Company is what I require but a warm bed is a necessity. "

Shoshanna dismounted her horse near a water tray near one of the saloons, wearing a dirty white blouse, a brown corset over it and brown fitting pantaloons. Not ladylike, as her père would often tell her however Shanna did not care what he had to think of it. She entered the saloon, catching eye of some of the men who either laughed or whistled at her presence, to which she just rolled her eyes. Instead she walked over to the bar, placing some coins flat on the bar as soon as the bartender noticed her, getting rid of the hat she had been wearing, tassling her hand through her hair, head down. "Give me zhe strongest drink this can buy, monsieur. "
I swear.
Endure and defeat is a lesson I learned long ago. Sadly, it doesnât always work out too well for women such as myself, but itâs a way of life that I learned from the very beginning. However, perhaps I will learn how to use my body to my own advantage. I always thought it was pointless, but if this is the kind of town Iâm in now, wellâŚIâm not about to lay down and take it. YouâreâŚFrench?
I'm telling you to lay down and take it, madamoiselle. But we can learn from ourselves in times like these. Men can be dangerous but they are boys compared to us women. We know how to play their games better zhan they do. Oui I'm French. I lived here 'all my life but I was raised Français by my grand-père but English by my père. Some words are just.. un automatisme.Â
Surely been a while
Haven't seen a goddamn town for a few days 'n a row.
Well, it's about damn time I got a drink around here.
Been waiting at this bar all night.
How 'bout I treat you on your next drink then, Monsieur. Since I am in such a good mood.Â
Damn thing.
Ainât time to fiddle around withâgoddamn, who ties anything with only one hand?
Need any help, Monsieur? I can understand it's very tricky.Â
Pardon me.
Had you perchance seen a man in a fine tweed suit and fur coat pass by?
Non.. I must say I have not.  But I shall keep my eyes open for you, Promis.Â
I swear.
Iâd like to think that when I ask someone to keep their hands off of me, they can do just that. This town is shaping up to be one hell of a charming place⌠Delightful.
Men think they control us femmes. I've always hated people grabbing and groping you because they think they have the right to but in time I learned that to use your beautĂŠ and body against them you get a very good chance or winning over them. Endurer et Vaincre.. Endure and defeat.Â
NOT A WANTED WOMAN.
âIâll either find this gold or die trying. Colorado will decide that.â
SHOSHANNA LE BLANC ¡ TWENTY-SIX ¡ FC: EMILIA CLARKE ¡ TAKEN
In the late 1700s, back when Colorado was part of French territory, a French expedition consisting of three hundred men went underway, in an effort to find gold in the Rocky Mountains. At first, their search was fruitless, but eventually itâs said they found up to 33 million dollars. As their camp was being raided by Native Americans, the French commander stored the gold. Only a handful of men remained by the end of the battle. Itâs rumored that by the end of the raids, only five men headed back to Kansas territory, from which they came from. One of these men, or so he claims, was Shoshannaâs grandfather. Up until his dying breath, her grandfather made her swear that one day she would return to the mountain and find the gold, proving that it was not just legend and folklore.
Shoshanna intends to keep the promise she made to her grandfather, even though her father insists that itâs just lunatic ravings of an old man who had seen too much in his life. Shoshanna has been traveling the Colorado territory for two years with Toma Seke, who knows the area rather well, looking for any clues that may lead her to the mountain that may be full of untold riches. Shoshanna has promised Toma a portion of the gold in exchange for her help in combatting the dangerous terrain. Sheâs convinced that mountain is pressed right up against the small boomertown of Ember. Her grandfather spoke of a mountain with a diverging river and lush valley beneath it, that towers up toward the sky.Â
Her strong, take-no-bullshit âFrenchâ personality leaves her rolling her eyes at some of the Americanâs around Ember, leading her to get along quite well with Toma, who seems to have similar feelings. Theyâve gotten this far, but with all the distractions and vices Ember has to offer, it will be difficult to keep the secret of the supposed hidden goldâ if it even exists at all. If word gets out about the hidden treasure, youâd better believe there would be a frenzy to find it. Turns out Shoshanna isnât the only one whoâs heard whisperings about long lost goldâ the Bell brotherâs might be hot on its tail. And Shoshanna wonât be having any of that.
