I have an ebook releasing on August 28th-
In the Margins Books presents Planet Sauria. Planet Sauria is a narrative that draws from Black American mythology and folklore originating in the south. My storytelling aims to entertain and inform readers of real concrete mythos and stories from my enslaved ancestors.
Planet Sauria takes place in a distant time where Black people have successfully terraformed and inhabited the inner and outer planets of the Solar System. The story picks up where a group of space explorers must identify a problem with their ship and determine the best course of action to save themselves and the cargo they are carrying.
Black American mythology is typically disregarded because of its origins in a painful past. The Maafa, widely known as chattel slavery, was the systematic erasure of precolonial African cultures, murder of countless kidnapped Africans, and centuries of enslavement followed by decades of torture and general racial antagonism that exists in America, and worldwide, today. Storytelling has always been a powerful tool to speak and archive truth in a society that aims to erase and destroy your culture.
My enslaved ancestors used folklore to navigate an increasingly hostile world. In the Margins Books aims to share their struggles, their joys and their achievements through narrative. Through scifi, fantasy, speculative fiction and romance, In the Margins Books presents Blackness in all of its forms.
The scifi/fantasy Planet Sauria, based on the Black folk story 'The People Could Fly' hits August 28th 2026.
