Tell us how you really feel about the outsiders.
Tell Me Tuesday
“They hinder research and expansion,” he mumbled almost absentmindedly. Since he didn’t know any personally, it was far easier to just categorize the group as a nuisance. “We can’t do our work if we can’t depend on people, and thus far, they’ve done nothing but stand in the way of important progress.”
just like... pls?
jamesxhenderson:
It wasn’t often than James found himself seeking out the comforts of sitting at a bar, but there was a moment here and there where grabbing a beer after a long night was exactly what was in order. Tonight just so happened to be one of those nights. While Luna’s Tavern had a reputation for bar brawls and late night alcoholics, it served up some good food, had a pretty decent selection of liquors, and didn’t even cost too much out of the pocket. Perfect for a quick meal and a beer or two before turning in for the night.
Out of the corner of his eye he spotted someone making their way through the crowd, looking for an open seat. “This one’s open,” He offered, kicking the stool beside him out a couple inches before taking another sip of the drink set before him.
While Daxon usually preferred to spend his evenings in quiet, either workign late or enjoying the company of just a few people, his team had been insisting he be a little more social. They scheduled it and all- once a week, he’d have to go to a restaurant or the bar to while the hours away. Tonight, a couple of them debriefed the week’s progress over a beer, before the scientists hustled off, insisting Dr. Reid go and “make friends.” Knowing he’d need a little more encouragement before he sought company, he made his way to the bar.
“Thanks,” he answered, finding a seat next to the guard. That was easier than expected. The bar was rather busy, so he contented himself with waiting for the bartender to notice him. “Henderson, right? You were on the security detail to Outpost 2 a few months ago?” He was almost certain he was remembering that right. Of course, Daxon probably remembered the research expeditions better than the guards, since they were OTG so often.

luciano-capmany:
Luc hadn’t expected much from such young children, he doubted they would be interested in the garden; all he really wanted was for them to stop trampling, tipping over, or stealing the small fence he’d made to protect the plants.. The feud was exhausting and never-ending. As soon as Daxon approached it gave the child the opportunity to slip off, and Luc stood up, brushing the soft soil off of his pants. “Just finishing up for the day, actually- what’s on your mind?”
Daxon had to hold back a smile as the child attempted to sneak away- it wasn’t an uncommon reaction to him. He liked to think children sensed his authority, but he knew plenty of them just thought he was weird. That was fine, though. He’d been weird all of his life, and the lack of small feet traipsing around was one less thing to trip over as he worked.
“I’m working with Command to set up another expedition,” Daxon began explaining, “I want to do an in-depth lake survey- collect samples from various depths, record the water temperatures, test acidity, tag fish...” Luc obviously would already know what a lake survey was, but after talking to Yates for an hour he was still stuck in explanation mode. “There’s still a lot of red tape and I don’t have a date yet, but I wanted to offer you a position on it, get a clean personnel list and make sure everyone’s got security clearance.”
luciano-capmany:
“It may not look like much more than weeds but I’ve got a lot of specimens in this garden- though I started it myself and it doesn’t technically belong to the lab, it’s still important to my research.” Luc knelt down to fix the tiny, d-i-y fence that he’d built around the miniature garden outside of his building. “There’s nothing worth stealing, it’s all inedible and toxic, just be careful not to step on it or it could damage the samples and throw my research off for a week,”
Daxon had actually been hoping to find Luc to discuss a research expedition he had in the works- it may be weeks or months into the future, but he liked having plenty of time for his researchers and himself to prepare- when he saw the man was confronting one of the colony’s children. Probably a kid wanting to play in a garden with more exotic specimens, but inconvenient still. The situation reminded him how much they needed a greenhouse. He’d put in a request tomorrow, but god knows how difficult it could be working with command.
“Luc?” he greeted, eyeing the child. “Do you have a minute?”
Headcanons:
Dax loves podcasts and audiobooks, and brought an external hardrive full of them on his pilgrimage. He’s heard most several times, but he still really enjoys listening to the conversations, especially those with humor and psychology or sociology. He loves hearing other people tell stories. He’s also more than willing to share his audiobooks, and loves talking about a good novel.
He’s a vegetarian, bordering on vegan. When cooking for himself, it’s usually vegan, not only because it’s cost-effective but because he views it as healthier, but he’ll eat vegetarian cooked meals from the cafeteria or restaurants with others. If someone cooks him a meal at home, though, he’ll eat meat if its provided, but only small amounts, just to make sure his body can still process it without getting sick in case of emergency.
Dax LOVES boardgames, and will literally accept any invitation to play, even with someone he considers essentially a stranger.
He’s gotten in trouble on more than one occasion for sneaking OTG for an afternoon, but always plays it off as exploiting security risks for the betterrment of the colony. He just doesn’t believe he or his research should be confined, especially where politics are concerned.
guardpalladino:
“Thank you,” Maya gave the women a smile as she paid for the fruit in her hand and turned to walk back to her house. Only that she didn’t get very far, running into someone as soon as she turned around. “Wow, the queue isn’t very long, no need to become one while waiting.”
Today was the day Daxon made his weekly trip to Yates’ compound to plea for a new science research outpost. It was never fruitful in the most straightforward sense, but occasionally he could bargain an expedition out of the commander. They always took weeks of preparation anyways, so it never hurt to ask for some leeway, especially if Yates was feeling generous. He’d walked into the market after spotting one of the guards he recognized, and was only just about to speak when she turned away, catching Dr. Reid off balance in the process.
“What?” There was a pause as he adjusted. Dax had already prepared his introduction, and it’d been interrupted. “No, I’m sorry, I was just going to ask if you’d seen Woams.”
