John: white; comes from a predominantly german household, though there is some irish in there too
Rose: persian jew whose family immigrated to france and took on a french last name to eliminate their persian-sounding surname, which has been lost to time. her family ended up moving to the USA after a while tho
Dave: full name David Eitan. ashkenazi jew, though mostly german, hungarian, and polish
Jade: MÄORI BABEYā¦. lived in aotearoa for a brief time before moving to the USA as a young child (like maybe 5 or 6! she has a slight accent from her time in aotearoa, but its not super noticeable)

Jane: white. like John, she is mostly german but also has english and irish in her too
Roxy: PERSIAN JEW ! full name Roxana Shila :)
Dirk: ashkenazi jewwww. was born to a different mother than dave, making them half brothers. his mother was fully hungarian. full name is Dirk IstvƔn!
Jake: while he lived in the UK until age 10 or 11, he is of mÄori origin, similar to jade. however he is NOT full mÄori! he has a mÄori mother and a british father.

Karkat: almost fully Mongolian (has a bit of russian in his family tree, but its either distant or he doesnt talk too much about itā¦no one knowsā¦..). speaks mongolian AND russian but no one really knows this. he keeps his ethnic background secret.
Vriska: Ukrainian but has never been to ukraine and does not know the language. her mother and aunties talk to each other in ukrainian and she doesnt know wtf theyre talking about lmao. her dad was absent but he was also ukrainian.
Tavros: the strange mix of greek and mexican. speaks spanish but not greek due to him living with his mother only (she is mexican).
Terezi: white. shes scottish. ginger too btw. has a slight scottish accent that she picked up from her father as a child and occasionally uses scottish slang like ānaeā/ādinnaeā/āayeā etc
Gamzee: half african-american (roots deep in the south), half afro-trinidadian! goes to trinidad every year to see his (very large and tightly knit) family :)
Feferi: half-barbadian and half-jamaican!
Eridan: half-white and half-brazilian. but everyone thinks he is just white
Nepeta: white. nobody knows what her family tree is like but its basically just a bunch of different flavors of european
Sollux: white. like the pastiest whitest guy ever
Aradia: Japanese! speaks japanese and, like gamzee, has family in her native country that she likes to see when she can
Equius: half-white and half-black (african-american). raised very christian.
Kanaya: muslim; syrian and lebanese. wears a hijab.
