Introduction
The University Gallery research project aims to address two distinct elements within student enterprise and practice: - The role of the university gallery as a space for pedagogy through the staging of exhibitions and events - The role of publishing within the university
These elements will connect to broader dialogues around independent publishing, publishing as curating and publishing as a pedagogical space. Our research will take the form of events, discussions with students and a publication, made in collaboration with AND Publishing and Publication Studio, which documents the research.
This is the first ‘chapter’ or ‘section’ of this publication. We see the galleries, collections, archives, publishers and libraries of universities as assets. Assets that should be used and accessed by students and the public alike. We are interested in how these assets can become more active and disseminated, if they are not already, and we are interested in learning from those who use their assets effectively and collaboratively, so that we can propose a new model or network.
This research project is funded by Curriculum Development Funding, Student Enterprise and Employability (SEE), University of the Arts, London.
