Some hairstyle exploration with flame!

These 3 are my personal headcanons for flames main hairstyle in each season:

Nothing much changes from season 1 to season 2, his sides are shaven down and his locs are retwisted into smaller parts and tied up at the back so as to not be in the way as much when fighting!

Season 3’s I’m loving a lot and will prob draw flame in a lot in the future. His goals as a character is to train to become a combat grandmaster so I thought a more sporty hairstyle would suit him. His locs are no longer dangling over his forehead but now completely tied back into twin braids. The shaven down parts are supposed to look like either flames or tiger stripes :}}

These were honestly so so much fun and I’d love to do more in the future and delve into smaller details like this more often!

I did notice the little spurs and did think that they kinda look like bird claws! (there's a more suitable word but I can't remember it sorry). that's very cool. I like how his outfit is a balance between comfort and style

I had a similar idea with an oc about elytras being used as a mobility aid, but for a different reason (avian/human hybrids being worse at flying than just avians) so it's really existing to see someone else have this idea about elytras as extra help for innate wings and execute it so well :D

ps english is not my first language so I hope I managed to carry my thoughts across

hi! I love your art :D would you like to talk about your design choices for Theo? I'm curious about his wings - is that an elytra attached to them?

Yes! Those membrane parts are meant to be an elytra. When it comes to drawing fanart of a story set minecraft I like to try and figure out how mechanics like the elytra would look outside of the game. I usually try to go for a more mythical/fantasy feel in my minecraft fanart, specifically my uu fanart, since that’s how I view minecraft as a game! Of course that changes when you feed into a more mechanical or cyberpunk aesthetic but base minecraft to me is fantasy-esque.

In most fanart I see the elytra is pretty much entirely forgotten, which isn’t a bad thing, I just like to explore concepts like this!

This specific design of elytra is for avian characters. To maintain the context of they can’t fly without the elytra, I draw their wings missing that 3rd and most 2nd row of feathers. They keep their primaries and the size of their wings which is the control of their flight, they’re just missing those feathers that grant them actual flight. The elytra acts as an aid almost, it gives that surface area for the wind to catch and allow them to fly and glide!

For different kinds of wings, like dragon or bat wings like I’ve given to Wemmbu, I think the logic behind the elytra would be an aid to the membrane that is there. The membrane they have is thin and vulnerable, any flight without an elytra would damage and eventually break them (think the red death in How to Train Your Dragon!)

Ok enough about wings for now hehe

While I definitely go far off from the original minecraft skin, I still use it as a guide for the overall palette. I’m gonna be honest for a second I actually despise drawing minecraft skins like this with the basic ass hoodie and normal pants combo with maybe a couple accessories like a bag or weapon sheath, it’s so boring!!! I try to be a bit more creative than that with my designs otherwise it just feels lazy of me as someone who loves to design characters

With Theo’s design functionality and looks are my focus. He needs to be able to fight while also looking good doing it! His gloves are thick and heavy, think of those welding gloves, which are to protect his hands against his own tnt blasts.

His black undershirt and arm covers are tight fitting so as to not restrict any movement, and don’t restrict any wing movement.

His cowboy chaps! These were inspired by the music used in his pov of the fight in parrots video awhile back! I think an outlaw vibe really suited his character so I decided to embrace that through his cape, his boots, and his pants! He did actually have a cowboy hat too in the early stages of the sketch but I decided to abandon that hehe

Probably not as noticeable, but his boots have little spurs at the end to resemble bird talons!
