My dog Luka is a lab mix who just turned 12 weeks old. The day I brought him home I saw several puppy issues that needed to be addressed. He was nipping my hands, chewing, peeing inside the house, just to name a few. Within days of having him home I decided to call Ted after seeing his website and videos while doing some research. A few days later Ted came over for our first lesson of three. Ted listened to my concerns and could tell that I was having a particularly hard time with Luka’s biting. The biting was the first of the issues to be addressed and in the first week he was no longer biting me. In the next two lessons we took take of the rest of the problem issues and taught him the basics, sit, down, come, leash walking and how to use the bathroom outdoors. Now three weeks later I have a great dog who is much easier to live with. I would like to thank Unleashed Potential for taking the time to show me how to train my dog the right way. Now I can love him much more that he is a balanced puppy

Zeus the German Shepherd.

My dog Zeus and I just completed our training with Unleashed Potential in Halifax. The trainer was Ted Efthymiadis and the training was great! He helped me turn my dog into a very happy well trained dog who now gets along with others. I could not be more pleased with the results and was worth every penny to have a 120 lbs. of manageable dog. My husband thought I was crazy at first but even in the first lesson he was impressed. This training is worth the time and effort, but as I traveled a long way each week and was sad to have to admit that my dog was trained and I would no longer be going to class, he made good friends at training camp. If your dog is not very social or does not listen call Unleashed Potential and they will give you a more loving friend that you can take with you anywhere. Thanks again Ted, from myself and Zeus! Husky training in Halifax, NS!

Hi my name is Jenny Lind, I have a 10 month old Husky mix named Gizmo. Four weeks ago, Gizmo was a SPAZ! He would get up on the counters, he barked at people walking by, he would jump out at bicycles. He could not sit, stay, or come. He was not able to go off leash and he pulled badly on the leash. If that were not enough, he had plenty of food aggression. So I came to Ted while I was on vacation in Halifax and now he’s like a different dog! I recently took him to my Vet and she didn’t even recognize him because he was so obedient in the clinic. When I come back to Halifax next summer, I am looking forward to bringing Gizmo back with me so we can do group classes with other dogs. “We adopted our dog, a lab/rotti mix, almost two years ago. When we first brought her home things seemed to be going well but it didn’t take long for us to realize she had some behavioural problems that needed attention. She was crazy in the car, pulled on walks, would not come when called, and showed aggression toward other dogs. It got to the point where I dreaded taking her out for a walk as I felt entirely unable to control her. We consulted a couple trainers in the hopes that we could learn how to correct Sammy’s negative behaviours, however, the instruction we received did little to reduce her aggression or improve her obedience. Finally, I came across unleashed potentials website and got in contact with Ted Efthymiadis of UPK9:Halifax. After the very first lesson we saw drastic improvement in Sammy and within one month I was able to walk her with confidence. Ted worked with us one-on-one to teach her basic commands that set the foundation for more advanced training. We progressed through semi-private lessons and on to group classes where Sammy interacts with other dogs off leash. Jacob and Marlee.

A huge thank you to Duke and Lindsay of Unleashed Potential K9 PEI for giving us the tools we need to help Jacob and Marlee become all that they were meant to be. While their training will be ongoing they have come so far in only 3 sessions. Despite several people telling us that they would not make good companion dogs because of their high drive to follow a scent they are proving everyone wrong. The training we received has helped them to focus on us and the task at hand while they ignore their surroundings. This has saved, and will probably in the future, save their lives. Without their help they were destined to be returned to where we got them from. Now there is no chance they will ever be anywhere but by our sides. They still have training ahead of them to fine tune a few things but they follow all the commands they’re given and have not “gone off on a hunt” once. We have and will continue to recommend Unleashed Potential K9 Academy to anyone who is looking for some help with their dog. It has been worth every penny and every minute. Aggressive rottweiler pup.

In July 2012, I adopted a senior dog, Jessie. Her story was that her owner had died suddenly and her companion dog had been sold. Jess, as a Rotti mix, was considered surplus to her owner’s family, who suggested to the two ladies who were looking after her that she should be euthanized. It had been in my mind that I needed an older dog to get me back out walking and to be a companion when my husband was away looking after ailing relatives in Ontario. Unfortunately, although Jess and I became attached to each other, she bit my husband when he came home from Ontario and he chose to correct her physically. I was very, very upset. My new best friend bit my oldest best friend. I had heard about Duke Ferguson and his training skills from a colleague and when Ted, the UPK9 trainer in Halifax, recommended board and train with Duke in PEI, it was clearly an excellent way to find a solution. I had decided that, should Jess be unable to be trained, she should not be passed on to become someone else’s problem. Jess spent 5 weeks with Duke and has been home for several weeks. She is a calmer, more settled animal and I have learned how to be a better dog manager. Our walks are delightful. She occasionally will bark to greet other dogs. She no longer reacts to people, joggers, cyclists or vehicles on our busy street where it seems the world and his neighbour all come to workout! She walks to heel very well, with the occasional determined sniff at something in the leaves too tempting to pass by. She and my husband are still wary of each other but I am sure that, given time and due care by myself to avoid a recurrent conflict between them, we will all settle into a nice blend of pet and people. She is a great companion, saw the election results out with me and my little cat last night. Thanks to Duke and his staff for teaching both Jess and myself how to conduct ourselves in a safe, non disruptive way as we share our home and surroundings with others! - Fiona and “Jess”

Dear Unleashed Potential, I wanted to write and say a Huge THANK YOU!! for all of your help with Ginger. As you know, before we met you, we worked with TWO other dog trainers and felt like we had tried everything. 100% positive reinforcement training, and then correction based methods. Despite all of our work with her, Ginger was still almost impossible to walk because she would bark and lunge at dogs, growl at children, and bark at anyone who tried to speak to us on the street. Moxon the boxer puppy.

Joining puppy management with Unleashed Potential K9 Academy, was the best thing that we could have done for our puppy Moxon! He learned very quickly the basics with the guidance of Duke and Lindsay; and has built an amazing foundation for success as he grows into a full-grown Boxer! We learned how to communicate with him and leadership skills, how to use proper commands, how to kennel train him, which were the proper chew and play toys, and much, much more! Not only does Duke teach you the basics to succeed, but weekly socialization is the best thing you could do for your puppy! Having the time to run around and play in a controlled environment with a room full of other puppies was fantastic, and very eye opening! We also had the opportunity to work with Duke one-on-one to concentrate more on Moxon’s “pulling and tugging” on the leash when we walk him. This was extremely important as we are both active and want to run with him often! This extra service was extremely worthwhile, and there was improvement after a one hour session! He has absolutely exceeded our expectations, and I would recommend anyone with a new puppy to contact Duke Ferguson’s Unleashed Potential K9 Academy immediately – don’t wait another day!

Vida the German Shepherd!

Finding and contacting Duke Ferguson at Unleashed Potential on the internet was a life changer for me as I was nearly at the end of my tether. My husband and I have a young german shepherd which we have trained from a puppy and having had other german shepherds presumed things would go forward in the normal way, but we were wrong. Vida was a challenge from the start. Hyper, high drive and over the top behaviour from a baby. Never seemed to be able to relax, unable to control herself, pulling, lungeing, jumping with excitement when meeting and greeting other dogs and people (very friendly) over the top with excitability and energy and yes, she got plenty of exercise. In fact, I wish I knew then what I know now that the frequent advice from well meaning people including most trainers that a tired dog is a well behaved dog is not applicable to all dogs, they just get fitter and are still hyper and raring to go! Tried all sorts of collars, halters, natural calming remedies etc with no success. I could go on and on. It was exhausting and very frustrating. I had not considered an e collar as they get very bad press in the Uk and I asked a trainer if they thought it might be worth trying and was told that I should NOT consider using one. I then started looking on the web to find a site that might give me more information. We live in the U.K. so when I saw Duke’s website I nearly didn’t contact him because I thought he may not want to get involved due to the obvious distance but thank goodness I did. I purchased an e collar and some training videos from him. as well as doing some Skype consults one on one. His training methods combined with this collar are great! He uses it in a way to encourage correct behaviour in all aspects of training, it was a real eye-opener for me. The result being that his advice very soon produced results with our dog and I cannot thank him enough! Duke is an excellent trainer and I would recommend anyone with a problem dog to contact him, wherever in the world they live! A program for life!

Riley is now 2 years old and still goes to weekly Saturday classes to socialize with other dogs and to reinforce the training we’ve learned together. He can walk both on or off-leash and he follows our every command. He is a well-adjusted, happy dog and very socialized with all breeds of dogs as well as with adults and children. In fact, we have to stop our two year old grandson from crawling all over him. Riley has so much patience with him, thanks to the training we received from Duke. Unleashed Potential is more than just dog training. Duke and Lindsay are always available for questions and advice. They are always ready with positive feedback and are always ready to lend a hand. We take advantage of the other services they offer, from supplies and goodies, to the indoor pool to maintenance board and trains. Leaving Riley with them, two years in a row when we went on vacation, was a great relief for us. We knew that he would be well taken care of and would get plenty of exercise, both in the pool, out with other dogs, and maintain his training! We are very pleased with Unleashed Potential K9’s training methods and highly recommend all of their services to anyone who wants a well-mannered family pet. Young boxer's transformation!

My boxer, Finnegan is the joy of my life. He is a goofy boy that makes me laugh every day. He loves to cuddle and just be with me. I bring him to the office everyday and anywhere else I go. Being a boxer, he was extremely excitable, he jumped on people, knocking them over. He’s given people cuts and bruises and kids were bowling pins, how many could he knock down. Since he turned one he became very dominant and aggressive towards other dogs. I had no control over him. We walked in point pleasant park every day and it started to turn into a nightmare. Another co-worker brought her dog into the office and it turned into a really nasty dog fight. I jumped in and got them apart. I was so lucky that no one was hurt, including myself!

I started looking up dog trainers online and found Unleashed Potential. I watched all their videos and read all their testimonials. I had more problems with Finnegan than I realized. I wanted a dog that I could bring everywhere. I love hiking and walking in the park. Right then, I could not do any of that.

I gave Ted a call and had the free evaluation. I was amazed. He had more control over my dog than I did and they just met. After meeting his dogs and watching all the videos of previous clients on his website. I knew he was the best. I wasn’t going to go with just any trainer.

Since training, I have the most amazing dog! I can now take him everywhere with no worries. I went from not trusting my dog to trusting him 100%. His social skills are amazing. He has turned into a chameleon. He adjusts his play with old, young, disabled and small dogs. If I don’t want him to say hi to a certain dog all I have to do is say “heel” and we walk right by. It has been 6 months and no fighting with other dogs. I get at least 2-3 dogs a week in the park that lunge at him and try to fight. The look on his face is priceless, “Mom, that dog is crazy!”. He always walks away from fights and comes to me for protection. He is now great with kids and doesn’t knock them over. He’s extremely gentle with my 6 month old nephew, and I have complete trust in him with the baby.

We attend group class regularly for maintenance and I have met some really great people. Finnegan has made some great doggie friends. He even plays with another boxer from class that he tried to attack multiple times before! It is such an awesome feeling to see your dog completely change. Every day he does something that makes me proud of him. And every day I have complete strangers compliment on how well trained he is! Our lives have completely changed for the better because of Ted and Unleashed Potential

Border Collie given new lease on life!

Memphis is a fun loving, full of life Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix. You would never know, looking at him now, that he has had a pretty complicated past. By the time Memphis was 6 months old, he was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia. Memphis underwent two major surgeries just weeks apart followed by four months of strict recovery. By the time he was fully healed, he was just over a year old. He missed the critical stage in his life for developing social skills with other dogs. When we were finally able to walk him down our street, we noticed quite quickly that Memphis was very nervous of other dogs, becoming excessively vocal, and a true nightmare to the neighbourhood. We were extremely embarrassed passing other people and dogs as our sweet little boy would turn into a growling, barking dog. We had tried many things to get Memphis back on track with socialization, but it proved to be beyond our control. That’s when we made the phone call to Ted at Unleashed Potential. We had contacted a few trainers in the area, but the moment we explained our situation to Ted was the moment we realized that this was the right person for the job. Ted understood our situation and explained he was very experienced in dealing with dog aggression of all types. The first time Ted met us, he brought his own dogs to help with the initial assessment so he could find out what was triggering the aggression. His dogs could not even step foot in our yard without Memphis freaking out uncontrollably. After a few lessons with Ted, we were making progress. We could see a huge difference in the way Memphis acted. His methods have become a daily ritual in our house. With guidance, and a lot of homework on our part, Memphis was ready to participate in semi-private lessons. Before we knew it, he had graduated to group class! Now he’s able to play on and off leash with other dogs! We couldn’t have made it to where we are now without Ted. It is an amazing feeling to have such control over your dog, and not worry about how he will react. Memphis has learned to focus on us and our commands instead of other distractions. We look forward to attending group class every Saturday. Memphis loves it so much, that we can’t even say “Ted” in our house without him going crazy with excitement. It has almost been a year since Elvis, a super submissive, non socialized rescue spent time with Duke Ferguson and Lindsay. Elvis can now walk off leash, heel, is not afraid of the water or gravel, he is a joy to take anywhere. Elvis continues to learn new things each day and is becoming a confident and relaxed pet.
