Here’s a tribute to that amazing character who gifts hours an hours of amusement to every teenager in all the world!
…Err, I mean amusement for the card game! Of course!
I’m really happy for being able to submitted something news before I set of on holiday (tomorrow I’ll travel to Berlin, I really can’t wait X))
See you next week!
“For too long, we’ve been forced to live in just this reality. It’s tedious, poorly designed, and pathetically constructed”
— Seto Kaiba describing all of life and the whole world in two sentences
how widely known is the whole ancient egyptian magic thing in the yugioh world? are there amateur paranormal documentaries on youtube about a white haired kid that leaves a wake of comatose acquaintences wherever he goes? are there online message boards with wildly inaccurate theories discussing the gaudy gold jewelry that so many extremely skilled duelists seem to possess? are there conspiracy theories that yugi uses a body double when he duels because his mannerisms are so different? are there facebook pages where people post their ghoul/rare hunter spottings?
yugi: i wish for true friends
yami: shit. friends. okay. friends. it's been a few thousand years but i can do "friend"
yami: *just fuckign murders anyone who is ever mean to yugi*
yami: am i doing it right
Things I’ve forgotten about YuGiOh are starting to come back as I’m watching it.
what if this part of her won
It's actually really special that everyone in the fandom thinks of Seigi as "precious sunshine man," despite the fact that he has such serious anger issues he ends up in anger management therapy for years and it still didn't 100% take perfectly (therapy rarely does).
The guy admits to having damaged property as a kid, and actually does use his karate skills on a couple people in the series, and actually thinks about harming a few people because he kind of wants to.
And yet, the overall impression of him, because he's generally so amiable and he doesn't want to hurt people, or at least doesn't want to want to hurt people, because he's so gentle most of the time and wants to help people more than anything, because he's so emotionally raw and vulnerable, because he genuinely cries so often, the impression people walk away with from him isn't "angry violent man."
Despite the fact that he admits straight out that he could really do some damage to someone if he tried.
And so many people with trauma and emotional issues like he has aren't given that leeway in fiction or in real life. I think it's really important to have a character with these genuine issues that people can still understand as something else at their core. That this isn't who they are, it's just a part of them and an issue they struggle with.
People with trauma, even people who act dangerously and scarily because of it, are still hurting people who are more complicated than that.
Being given a reminder, even in fiction, is good, I think.
If you haven't read The Case Files of Jeweler Richard, however much time you think Seigi spends talking about how beautiful Richard is, it's ten times that amount.
You've seen people joking about how frequent it is? You've seen the anime and you think you know?
You don't.
He does so much of this.
i wish people would stop calling jeweler richard queerbait when it's not 😭😭 i understand that not everyone is aware of the latest updates but!! even before seiricha was confirmed canon, their relationship was already clearly queer! just because what was presented doesn't fit in your rigid box of what queerness should be, doesn't mean that it isn't queer. just because they don't immediately get together doesn't make it queerbait!! like, what happened to developing the characters and their relationships?
look, JR presents at length how complex relationships can be, which means that more often than not, words aren't enough to fully encapsulate their entirety. complex human relationships is literally one of the core themes of the series!! i think that sometimes people are so hung up on the idea of needing to have a label and needing to be explicitly told information to their faces that they dismiss what is being shown to them as "bromance" or "bait" JUST because the queerness isn't outright stated.
it really doesn't take much to figure out that JR is very, very queer & to say otherwise—well. you'd have to be dense or just plain stupid.
this exchange in volume 9 between seigi and tanimoto always makes me cry. as someone on the aromantic and asexual spectrum, it makes me happy to see tanimoto's way of life being acknowledged with so much care. it's kind of reassuring. like there's more to life than conforming to amatonormativity. like living differently than what society wants from you may still work out.
and seigi apologising for his feelings of waiting for her to change her mind being obvious…it must have been difficult to know that isn't right but not be able to stop his love for her anyway.
"i love you. i did then, and i still do. i'm sure i always will."
for me, a unfulfilled first love has a bittersweet fragrance. it follows you around. it changes some part of you forever whether you like it or not. while it may pave the path for a happier love, it may also, alternatively, leave you scarred for life.
i think seigi saying goodbye to these feelings after so many years and finally trying to be a good friend of the person he loved is brave and precious.
i'm glad they were able to finally be honest about everything that happened between them.
jeweler richard is my favourite novel series for so many reasons, and i'd say this conversation is one part of it that has engraved itself in my heart.
i want them to live forever
i failed to shorten it.
finally read vol 6 and 7 the other day. so happy for vince's debut..... seigi's unintentional(?) flirting intensifies
“I wish my ‘rightful place’ would be right next to you.”
