hi my name's nami, i'm 23, and i'm here with a very self indulgent researcher oc from pokemon who is INVESTED in researching the phenomena known as "living crystals" after an interaction in area zero. he was an ex-researcher in the area zero research division alongside the professor of paldea. before he was let off with the rest of them, he had an "interaction" with what lied below that would impact him forever.
INTEREST CHECKER. THIS IS REQUIRED.
for now this blog will be iconless until i get the braincells to draw him. bio + rules below cut.
rules.
- lets keep this simple, basic etiquette applies, on godmodding or metagaming unless we've discussed it and it's viable according to your character.
- reblog karma!! please don't reblog directly from me unless you send in a meme or wait a lil while to reblog it thank u
- MUTUALS ONLY, please i beg if i don't follow you back from picavecalyx, don't like my starter/plotting/inbox or ANY kind of calls.
- this blog's lore is interconnected to all of my blog's lore and helps to go into more depth on the concept of living crystals(i.e., eldritch cosmic horror funny rocks). feel free to send questions about worldbuilding or ANYTHING related to it!!! i love talking about it and so does ruri.
- have fun!! sometimes lore doesn't align and we're not quite sure how they fit together, that's fine, we can figure it out >:) your character's stuff does not have to align with mine, they can still prob interact if we try hard enough.
- this is a very self indulgent blog, it's mostly for documentation, but threads will obviously be apart of it.
bio.
full name. ruri moreau
age. 32
gender. genderfluid (he/she)
region. born in hoenn, researched in paldea, presently traveling wherever his research takes him
occupation. field researcher in crystallography, geology, and astronomy.
characteristics. skinny with some strong legs, average height at 5'8", waving hair often tied in a rat tail, wears a lot of sweaters and often has a big backpack that carries lots of research documents, he is surprisingly strong but only because he carries around a 100 pound backpack everywhere.
history. ruri was a researcher working with devon corporation, then later with the professor of paldea in area zero. before the staff was discharged, he had an interaction near the depths with the indigo disk that caused him to go into a to have a seizure. this lead to him being the first one to be discharged, and then later the rest of the staff would be as well. after that, ruri would be sent back to hoenn, though with a newfound want to research what he found...and find phenomena similar. to which he dubbed the 'living mineral phenomena.' later he simply calls them living gems or living crystals. he has currently published hypothesis, and is working on papers to release after proper documentation that confirms the existence of these 'living minerals.'
Ruri's hands seemed to shake as he looked down at the sheets of paper scattered across his desk. Fragments of jewels and gems that he had collected over the course of months, years, since his 'enlightening.'
" just a little more... "
Murmur so quiet it seemed barely to form proper syllables, let alone words. Exhaustion beginning to creep over his eyelids. Still, voices kept him awake, their begging to find them in the corners of his eyes causing him to remained focused...as much as he could, at least, with how much his vision seemed to blur and focus.
" just tell me a little...more... "
A yawn, before he adjusted a hair that fell just over his forehead, pulled back across his ears. Hands trembling as he sought to write more across the streams of paper that flowed from his hand.
" i...have to... "
Lack of control, as vision blurred and blackened, till the crystallographer could hold himself up no longer. Collapsing in his desk, hand still clenching around his pencil.
Living Crystal Phenomena Log 53.
Classified "Stellar Types", dubbed by Professor ■■■■
Stellars seem to differ from Pokemon in composition, yet somehow are capable of mimicking the traditional 18 types perfectly, if not temporarily. Speculation has been put it that some of these Stellars have attempted and successfully "blended in" as Pokemon.
Attempts to reach out to Lysandre Labs about the possibility of Z's status has gone without response. I will attempt to reach out in person, if I have to. Or try to find the specimen myself, and ask it. I have reason to believe that Stellars are more than willing to discuss.
I have discussed with the Mr. Stone at the possibility of setting up a few trips to my benefit, and to the research's development.
Destinations include.
• Forina; "Millenium Comet" could relate to a Stellar, and thus worth researching.
• Kingdom of Rota, Tree of Beginnings; the "Tree" may be a Stellar, or something within it. Sightings of Mew may indicate some relationship to the Stellars as well. Could Mew be a Stellar?
• Paldea; taking samples of tera crystals. We could also ask for samples to be sent, no need to travel there.
• Kalos, Anistar City; the Sundial is likely a Stellar. Though given the closed nature of the city, I require a permit to even get close, let alone to research it. I will reach out to Lysandre Labs about this as well. I suspect they would also like to research the stone.
• Unova, Chargestone Cave; We have reason to believe there may be a Stellar in these caverns, the cavern itself may be one. It's worth researching.
Further development of the "Globe." It continues to speak to me in dreams, I have begun to see it while I am awake as well. Am I daydreaming? Hallucinating? I'm not sure. I have gotten into discussions with peers, only to be drawn away by it's voice. My peers have described the trance as unnerving, even disturbing.
I find it fascinating.
I have attempted to ask it where it resides, but...No luck. It seems confused, maybe even injured? It describes a friend made of light, a people who feed on it's brightness, and many worlds connected by more light...strings?
So often, does it repeat about connections, about freedom, about bonds...perhaps the "Globe" I am speaking to isn't even of this world?
The closest to a destination it has spoken of is a "Deep Sea." Perhaps I may benefit to take a trip to the sea?
Add that to the list of destinations I may request to visit...Hoenn, of course, but I am already here? Perhaps Alola?
It's voice is...perpetual. It always speaks, but I can't always understand. I believe that the closer I get to it, the more it's words will make sense.
I will understand. I will find it. It calls to me.
stellars do not die. they existed before death and they will exist long after the concept. There are only two outcomes for the "death" of a stellar. both of which occured to established stellars:
shattering: shattering is when a singular stellar is split into many due to a threat or need to accomplish something. shattering can either occur willingly(terapagos takes fragments of itself all of the time) or not(jirachi was shattered against its will). shattering can cause fragments to gain sentience in some way. Each Jirachi is its own character, each terapagos is its own being but it still shares the hivemind, and zygarde has only a chosen few fragments that have a will but are ultimately still connected. an unwilling shattering seperates the fragments from each other, which is jirachis can't connect to eachother from long distances.
reformation: the act of a stellar being completely destroyed, it's energy drained, or some sort of traditional "death." the one and only current example of this is the megalith, which was "killed" in the anime. that being said, even post XYZ, it is already beginning to reform. stellars will simply reform after being severely injured.
an additional note is that stellar "siblings" are a result of a greater shattering near the beginning nothing. technically every stellar was original a singular entity before the first shattering. though given the present stellars, unless they are siblings, are no longer connected...that means that something had to cause the first shattering. the cause of which is unknown.
Philosophical obsession to the point of self destruction
[Image description: A collage consisting of 10 different photographs and quotes, all related to digging and holes. From top to bottom:
A wikipedia headline that says “Law of Holes”.
A close up of a shovel, digging into loose dirt.
An excerpt from a wikipedia article about the law of holes: The law of holes or the first law of holes, is an adage which states: "if you find yourself in a hole, stop digging." It is used as a metaphor, warning that when in an untenable position, it is best to stop making the situation worse.”
A lyrics excerpt from ‘The Song With Five Names’ by Will Wood: You can break a shovel when you break new ground / You dig dirt up when you dig deep down / You should know better than that by now / It's not profound to know that you could never know!
A blurry photograph of a dark rectangular hole in the ground, seemingly a grave. The hole is so dark the bottom of it isn’t visible. Besides the hole there is a pile of dirt.
A lyrics excerpt from ‘Hand Me My Shovel, I’m Going In!’ by Will Wood and The Tapeworms: Gotta get to the bottom of this/ Gotta get to the bottom of this / Gotta get to the bottom of this / Gotta gotta get, gotta gotta get, gotta get / Gotta get to the bottom of this / Gotta gotta get, gotta gotta get, gotta get / Gotta get to the bottom of this / Gotta gotta get, gotta gotta get, gotta get / Gotta get to the bottom of this / If it kills me
An excerpt from a wikipedia article about the law of holes: The second law of holes is commonly known as: "when you stop digging, you are still in a hole."
A photograph of a deep round hole. There’s a ladder going down into it and the bottom of the hole isn’t visible.
An excerpt from the transcript of episode 88 of The Magnus Archives: It was very strange. It was just the one word, solid capital letters in a small, neat typeface at the very centre of the page. It said ‘DIG’. I took that to be the title, and turned to the next page. ‘DIG’. Exactly the same. The third page. ‘DIG’. The fourth page. ‘DIG’. Dig, dig, dig, dig.
A lyrics excerpt from ‘Hand Me My Shovel, I’m Going In!’ by Will Wood and The Tapeworms: Looking down I could say heaven sent me / Hand me my shovel, I’m going in!

ruri isn't evil. he isn't really that unethical. that being said, he is not well. he easily loses himself in his obsession, he gets a little too pushy about boundaries, he is open to crime just to get further in his research. in the end, he's a good person...but he's so close to breaking in so many ways that he can seem very unnerving to be around, work with, or befriend.
Geological horror. You find a geode and crack it open and the crystal lining its walls is human blood that can't be genetically matched to anyone. You find a human skeleton but every one of the bones is made from rock, a rock that you know can't be whittled into those shapes. You find layers of clay and loam that sport ancient fossils at the top and the still-rotting corpses of modern animals at the bottom.
ruri is the study of incomprehensible horrors, cosmic horrors, insanity's effect on a man, loneliness turning into obsession, reflections of beasts and men, a race to the end, and memories taking over the present.
it isn't a coincidence that MOST things created from stellars are from the beginnings trio(terapagos, globe, and tree). they are LITERALLY the BEGINNINGS trio.
all of them connect to something that is otherwise lifegiving. mew, necrozma, the earth itself. terapagos specifically connected to the literal tunnels where xerneas and yveltal first emerged. necrozma is literally the provider of light, and mew is. well mew.
i will be making a FULL glossary on them(i have already started, been working on it on and off) but here is a list of some of the stellars that are included:
The Sundial (Shard of Time)
The Megalith (Shard of Energy)
Zygarde (Stellar of Order)
Jirachi(s) (Wishing Stars)
Globe (of Beginnings)
Tree (of Beginnings)
Terapagos (Pendant of Beginnings)
Stormy Planet
the stellars can be simply defined as beings that have existed since before creation, before there was anything and nothing. they are parasitic by nature, but some develop more mutualistic relationships, such as zygarde. jirachi is even one that has been completely removed from it's parasitic nature for a multitude of reasons.
Area Zero, it was supposed to be blocked out from most people, if not all of them! There was a reason that the team had been disbanded, leaving two, then one left in that pit. Though Ruri blamed himself to an extent for the final needle on the coffin to fully disband. Nobody else wanted to end up like him. He wasn't even sure if he wanted to go back down there! Could he face it again? Could he talk to it? He might thank it, it did push him off the edge and plummeting down into this journey of shimmering shards.
Without it, he wouldn't have known they existed. He wouldn't have a goal, a path to find it.
So when he heard that a group of kids!--academy goers?--had gone down into the crater? That at least one of them had been gifted the Disk that he provided to the league...? He had to try to connect...Maybe he could even reach out to the professor again...? Either of them, it had been so long.
Finding the specific individuals should have been hard...Though with it's help, it became so much easier. It told him who felt exposed. Those that had witnessed it's light, either in full or partial shine.
" you there! "
Ruri waved his hand, smile creeping over his face, eyes a certain glaze as he listened to both what was in front of him, and it's voice, directing him.
" i have a question! a very very very important one! "
ruri is in a fucked up little cycle wherein...he does do really good work, devon corp knows that in addition to the employers or other scientists that he works with...the issue with that is he is constantly given more. you'd assume this is a good thing, but given most of the time he is left alone for hours, days, weeks, even months on end...and given very little contact with others...it's not good for his already crumbling mental state. he loves his work, but he wants company, but he doesn't have time to have that company. it also really doesn't help that he can get obsessive quick, he can become unnerving quick, he is not always pleasant to be around.
