hey folks! did you listen to wolf in sheep’s clothing as a teen because it sounded cool and evil and found it through some fanbase or tiktok? do you like fall out boy and other similar bands? well i’m here today to tell you about:
THE REST OF SET IT OFF’S DISCOGRAPHY & WHY YOU SHOULD CARE ABOUT THEM!✨
gonna preface this with the fact that i was inspired to write this after reading @iridescentides post (here)
let’s start with their music! sio has been a band for over 12 years, starting in 2008, and has been constantly shifting and evolving their sound. at first they were scene boys that kind of sounded like all time low copycats; then they moved into that dark, heavy, edgy sound that you’re familiar with (their three most streamed songs on spotify all have this cinematic sound), and then they started exploring how to involve more pop elements into their music. by now they have a very unique edgy pop rock sound, and plan to keep evolving. i mean look at their aesthetic evolution!
another thing about their songs: if you like that anger you found in wolf in sheep’s clothing, you’re in luck! consider exploring such songs as killer in the mirror, NME, the haunting, and hypnotized. their most dramatic song, by the way, is a christmas song??? i don’t understand how they managed it but it’s fucking incredible. and not all their songs are angry though, and they deal a lot with mental health. i have a spotify playlist with my subjective opinions on which are some of their best, but if you want more hmu!
in terms of the actual band members, and i say this being a moderator for cody’s twitch channel: they are sweethearts, very genuine, and absolutely hilarious. and there's not an ounce of toxic masculinity to be found among them. believe me when i say cody is a humanized golden retriever, zach is the funniest person on the planet, and maxx super super nice (and many fans experience gender envy for this man. seriously, look at him). not to mention they are very handsome dudes :) (left to right is zach the guitarist, cody the vocalist, and maxx the drummer, although sometimes cody will hop on the drums for a bit and maxx sings one of the songs and plays it on ukuele.)
that being said, their fanbase is built off of mutual respect, kindness, honesty, and being fucking hilarious. i’ve never seen a band that cared about their fans this much, and actively cultivate an environment where everyone is as comfortable as they can manage, including drop-kicking (not literally) a previous member and dropping a band from a future tour as soon as they found out they were being weird to sio fans. i’ve also seen cody go into big brother mode multiple times over fans 🥺 and they listen to their fans because they want to be the best that they can be.
because of this, they’ve created a very powerful fanbase, to the point where they literally won an award on having amazing fans. they got so much bullshit thrown at them before and after the release of their newest album, but somehow they’ve only managed to grow, and grow a LOT. with that being said, i’m pretty confident they’re about to blow the fuck up way more with their next album soooo now’s a pretty good time to get on board.
last thing i’ll add, cody and maxx stream on twitch! i’m one of cody’s moderators and we try to create a similar environment around streams; enjoy yourself, and treat each other with respect. cody’s streams can get pretty chaotic in a good way (its the hyperactive type adhd) and for maxx’s i love the amount of strange tangents that turn into hilarious inside jokes (teeth of the month club! put em in your mouth!) they also play dnd together on thursdays with their tour tech jon and friend kellie and it’s a great time :’) if you’re interested, here’s a link to one of maxx’s twitch highlight reels (made by the amazing and talented @breakyourfall) and one of my own favorite clips from cody’s streams (someone asked him to sing his favorite christmas carol, and then someone played a sound alert but he couldn't hear it)
their live shows are one of their biggest strengths. they are so fucking fun
there’s an acoustic version of wolf in sheep’s clothing. codys vocals in the bridge. help
they're aggressively supportive of the queer community! here's a thing that happened at one of my shows! cody's smile at me after he waves it is amazing. anyways yeah they have SO MANY queer fans.
they are professional goofballs. they used to do youtube videos when they had more time on their hands and they’re all hilarious. they don’t do them anymore but i’ve heard they’re considering starting a podcast?? maybe??
tldr; set it off are hilarious, genuine people, and you should start listening to thhem before they blow up the entire world
