Being in Zaofu, and seeing how Suyin had this giant family, and was able to be arms away from them, protect them. Made Lin feel as if she were a teenager again. The anger and resentment was close to boiling over. She had to keep her family away. She had to keep them if they were a secret. She knew her daughter had the same resentment she had with Toph for her absence.

After finally reading it, I enjoyed it. The emotional complexity between Lin and Suyin is treated with care. There is lot of care put in to describe Lin’s thoughts and feelings.

Lin’s emotional reaction in this fic feels alive. Her joy in reflecting Ursa’s birth is heartwarming, and the way she tries to put in effort to show that she cares for her is sweet. Understanding why Iroh isn’t close with her is understandable.
