So if doctrine is to build a ship around a gun... why not just build the Mac with as skeleton of a ship as possible. It would cut costs by like 30% if you just had 5-man operated Mac Cannons Flying around as system defense craft. And its not like the armor and bulk helped, anyway

That wouldn’t work for so many reasons.

1: MACs need a ridiculous amount of power to work, hence the nuclear reactors.

2: The force of one shot may very well irreparably damage the “ship’s” superstructure.

3: Little engine room. These vessels would be slow and un-maneuverable, leaving them vulnerable to retaliatory fire. They also wouldn’t be able to track targets at an effective speed
