“I must inquire, do you take a break when speaking to breathe or do you just keep talking?”
Forgive Me For I Have Sinned II Frederic && Amanda ———— Devils on his shoulders && strangers treading on soft spots in his brain — he is foreign to her, he is sure, for he never removed the expertly crafted facade from his countenance shrouded in memories he prayed he would forget. Oh, the blood, the deep crimson staining tainted fingertips with the loss of innocence. He can remember her bright blonde locks water falling down her back in curls, his lovely daughter Anastasia, the only thing in the world he ever truly loved. He is a silhouette, an empty shell of a man, shrouded in ebony-hued shadows, firelight flickering across prominent features. A monster — a mastermind of strategy, climbing the social ladder with ease && little regret. He will step on any heart he must to reach the top, to become what his heart yearns for, in some feeble attempt to fill the void within his weakened heart — to ease the burning ache in tired veins. Soul withered and worn screams at him for some redemption, to find an inkling of happiness in a world of cruel chaos, but instead he has given into the world and become the cruelest man to walk that ground. How he has climbed, but he has gotten nowhere. His heart still empty, hands still sticky with past failures, he still dances with the devil. The two are old companions, well versed in the other’s needs. I will become the devil if I must, I will have everything I want, I will prove them all wrong. Life has not been a kind mistress, no, it had hit him && beat him blind, tearing away his humanity bit by bit before he was living some sort of vague lie, unsure of whom his own reflection was. He was no longer the small son of a basket weaver, he had become much more, much worse than he ever intended to. Frederic would count himself lucky to have turned out like his father — a man who lived a life quietly and contently, but instead he was served this life on a silver platter. A basket weavers son, a lover, a criminal, a duke, a prince: so many titles yet none brought him happiness but the simplest of all, a father. How dare he pretend that anything besides that brought meaning to the dull days he lived, how could he pretend Amanda, a child herself, could be enough for him? He did not feel remorse for fooling her into wedding him for his own agenda but had he met her when he was younger, he might have felt an ounce of pity for the girl who fell for his flowery words && false admiration. She was just a mere pawn in his game, a victim of his seduction. Oh, the young, how they fall for the simplest tricks. Yet, he was still her husband, had said the vows before a lord he didn’t believe in && he had to at least pretend to feel for her or his plans would fall through the seams of the work he had done, thus he had decided to do his best to convince this child that he truly fell head over heals for her && that he was truly just a broken man in need of her tender touch. Ah, brother of Apate, set this poor child free. “Amanda, I have brought you something... Something long overdue.” Sweet snake, do not weave pretty words for the girl who knows no better, she is a fool fallen into your trap, spare her your venom. Sweet hazel irises play tricky games with the pitiful target of his games, her doe eyes watching him as they always did. At least she could never claim he was a boring man, no, he kept her balancing on her toes, broken glass waiting for her if she ever fell - his evil ways ready to penetrate her skin && draw blood at the first chance he got. But she would not see such things, his past life as a thespian painting a look of genuine care across his visage. His arm extending, fingers unfurling to reveal a ring of simple taste within his palm. “It belonged to my mother, my father gave it to her when they wed. I thought you might like to have it as a token of my love for you, it is the last thing I have left of her.” Words spoken are beyond false, the ring meant little to him, as he hated his mother, but she need not know such things. This gesture was one part of his plan, another light step towards what he truly yearned for.
crownmefrancis:
“Or perhaps you don’t start conversations at all?” Francis remarked, his head tilting to the side as he looked to the other.
“Ah, your majesty, I thought you knew by now I rarely discuss anything besides business with others.”
“Do you always begin conversations this way?”

Amanda watched him carefully, unsure of what would happen. She had never heard of someone who had such problems. Where it had seemed as if they could go off at any moment. And the thought scared her, because she would never be able to tell exactly what she could do that would trigger that shift.
“I don’t understand…” Amanda said slowly, not removing her eyes from him. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Hearing him call himself a monster in certain situations pained her in some way, as she didn’t want for him to think of himself like that. Despite his temper having been the reason behind him hurting her.
“You’re not a monster, Frederic, don’t say that. — And don’t apologize”
She didn’t exactly understand what this was about. What was going on with him, but she figured that it couldn’t be his fault. To have this sudden change in personality. It didn’t sound right.
“I thought I could control it... after all these years.”
His words are scattered and somewhat quiet as he gently pulls her hand from his chin to divert his eyes once more. It pains him to look at her at the moment, the idea of hurting her something so damning to him he finds it difficult to connect to the person he was only moment ago. He feels so very detached from the man who threw her into a book case and threatened her. Who was he becoming, that he would threaten his wife? How could he try to sabotage his own family? She was one of the only people in the world that cared of what happened to him and he had just tried to hurt her. How could he have? Regret and guilt coursed through his veins as he kneeled before her, desperate to forget what he had just done - yet he could not, and did not deserve to.
“Then what would you call me?”
Suddenly, he raises his head, his hair flipping out of his eyes as he does so, the desperation evident in his hazel irises. He does not want to scare her away, because somewhere deep within his frame, he knows that he harbors feelings for her. He has been particularly picky when it came to women in his life, yet she had sparked his fancy for many reasons, encouraging him to wed her. That was a move he would not have just done for anyone, she was special to him. If he ever lost her because of something he did, he would not be able to live with himself. She was everything he had left in the world, without her, he had no reason to live.

Amanda watched him as he stepped back, and her eyes followed his hand as he reached into his pocket to find a match. She watched as he lit the fire, and her gaze stayed upon the flame, before it moved to him. It was as if the anger, the man she had just been faced with, was gone. In a mere second. And it confused her, enough for her anger to lessen. She didn’t understand his sudden shift in attitude.
At his word, she nodded slowly, carefully lifting her wrists as she carefully rubbed the sore skin. Her eyes followed as he blew out the flame and as the match fell to the grown. A frown formed on her lips at his next words.
“A temper?” She said, raising an eyebrow. “That’s a nice way of putting it.” Amanda only grew annoyed at his words. She was young, yes, but it was not an uncommon thing in these times, for young women to marry older men. And she had certainly been through enough. “Don’t call me a child. And you were also the one who came to me.”
Their marriage had been a very spontaneous event, and it wasn’t something they had planned at all. They had been very infatuated by one another; Amanda knew that she herself had come to care for him a lot. And therefore she hadn’t thought it through.
Amanda saw the sudden change in him. How his eyes turned saddened and it surprised her. How big the change in moods really was and she couldn’t help but feel worried and a little scared by it. Though not the kind of fear she had felt moments before.
As he falls to his knees, Amanda’s eyes widened in a slight panic. She had no idea what was happening to him, why he had a sudden change of mood, or why this was happening. “Frederic?” She asked carefully, reaching out and placing her hand on his shoulder, as she carefully kneeled down before him. “Frederic, what’s happening?” The worry was clear in her voice and on her face, as she moved her other hand to his chin, carefully guiding him to face her rather than the ground.
Memories continue to haunt him in those moments, crushing his very life and soul; pulling his identity from his frame and putting it into immediate turmoil. He is not in his right mind usually, but now he feels as though he has lost his grip on reality entirely. It takes all his energy not to fall over and give into the demons that reside in his head, everything to avoid turning into the beast he was almost moments ago. He is a slave to those demons, but he doesn’t want to be anymore.
“I-I have this problem.. one minute I can be fine and the next a monster I don’t know why, but that is how it is... and most times memories of my past surface which doesn’t assist in my recovery.”
As she moves his eyes to her face, he is weary to take in her visage. He finds himself feeling the same amount of shame he felt often when he would yell at his daughter, as she had been an innocent creature merely trying to love him; much like the woman before him. He had expected Amanda to fall into the mess that he has created, but he never asked himself if she would want to. It just occurred to him then that she may be too good-hearted to cross over into the demented world that he lives in. Besides, he does not want her to lose her innocence anyways, merely to have someone he can rely on, and in that moment he believes her to be someone he might lean on here and there. She seems to be accepting of what he is going through, even though he hurt her.
Before his eyes move to meet hers, he mumbles that he is sorry, hazel hues moving to meet her darker ones. She is lovely, lovelier than he deserves, and he feels guilt for that too. There are plenty of men at court that wish to court her, and yet he had taken her off the market. Somewhat selfishly, he knew. He was not even of royal blood, he had little right to be marrying a princess.
thedarlingprincesss:
Amanda watched him, frowning at the sound of his laugh. Not the light laugh she was used to and liked, no, this one did nothing but cause a small sense of fear. She hadn’t expected such a reaction from him.— couldn’t have imagined it. She had never seen him like this, and her eyes followed his hand as he wiped the blood from his. As he stepped forward, Amanda couldn’t help but find herself stepping back away from him, as she watched him carefully trying to figure out his next move. But she couldn’t. She didn’t know the man she was facing at the moment, and she knew by now that marrying him this fast had been a terrible decision on her part.
She didn’t expect what happened next, and she let out a painful gasp as she was shoved into a nearby wall, the tight grip on her arm only adding to the pain. Glaring at him, despite the shock she was feeling, she refused to allow for her fear to be too evident. Amanda would hide it as best as she could, refusing to be seen as weak. As she feels his grip move to her wrists, she could feel the bruises that was forming on her arms and she couldn’t help but turn her head away in disgust as he smeared blood across her cheek. Once he stepped closer, she once again moved her stare towards him, the glare once again evident in her eyes. Though the tone behind his words didn’t do anything to remove the fear she was feeling for him.
“Yet you do still leave bruises on me.” She spoke, her glare now also holding a challenging look behind them, though she knew to be careful. His temper was one she wasn’t familiar with, and she didn’t know how easy it would be to trigger. “Maybe, but as for now, no one is aware. And my sister cares about me, we are of same blood, and she is a queen. Royal blood. Despite it all, she would help me, and my relation to you be damned.” Amanda refused to allow herself to be over run by him. She may now be married, and it changed the rules for her, but she was not going to change completely just to follow his wishes and demands. And one thing she didn’t like was following orders. “Neither do you know everything about me. I’m sure I can make my way around whatever you should deem worthy as a threat against me.”
She had noticed how close he had come to her, and hadn’t moved one bit. Both because she didn’t have the space to and because she refused to allow him to get the upper hand. — which he had so far managed to. And she aimed to change it.
“I have watched rulers greater than you, and observed them go over politics. I have had placed much responsibility upon me, as being a part of a royal family. And no, it hasn’t, because all my siblings has yet to be dead.” Amanda said, making sure to put pressure on the last word. And by god did she wish Arianne lived a long life, because she refused to take the throne if she remained married to Frederic. Isaac may be awful, but him and Arianne gets somewhat along. “Of course I wouldn’t know, because you didn’t give any word from you.— So all you were doing was to gain your place in order to be able to demand others. I could have taught you how easy that is.” Amanda said and raised an eyebrow, a smirk on her lips. Something which she knew could, and most likely would, seem as provocative. “I suppose I shouldn’t allow you in my business either. Acting as a spoiled princess my entire life did gain me quiet some knowledge. It’s a specialty of mine.— I’m sure you’ll see far more of it.” By now she knew that she was to be careful. That it could be dangerous for her, but she didn’t care. If he was to hurt her now, she wanted to know. This was simply how she acted when angry, and if he did decide to hurt her for it, she would make sure to get as far away from him as she could. She refused to be in such a relationship.
Amanda stood glaring at him. She didn’t understand his sudden change, he was nothing like the man she knew before his travels, and it bothered her. And when irritated or angry, Amanda was not pleasant to be around, fully aware that her attitude in such situations may come off as childish. There was expected far more from her, and much else. Had been from her birth. And thus she had grown up and taught herself to navigate between how she should behave. When to put up a facade and when not to. And she definently didn’t hold anything back when she was angry. And refused to allow herself to be pushed around.
Every syllable of her words pass through his mind, each of them snaking in to his brain and boring a hole there. Even now, when he has clearly explained himself, she fails to see what it is he is trying to get at. She is acting as a child might who has not gotten their way, thus he allows her words to linger in the air of silence. He does not move from where he stands, the anger melting away from his bones, his temper receding back to where it came from. He recalls now the way she looks when the sun leaks through the windows in the morning, how she sounds when their bodies intertwine, how she used to look at him. For some reason, the woman before him holds a power over him like no on he has ever come across in his life. Not his mother nor Amphelice ever had such a spell over him, but perhaps that was the fact that he had just wed her.
Before he speaks, he pulls his match from his pocket, his nail flicking at the tip of it before it ignites, the fire flickering remind him somewhat of the love they once harbored for the other struggling to stay alight. Perhaps he had been too cruel to her for how she was acting, as he has always been aware that she was quite young. It was his fault for marrying such a young girl when he should have been aiming more towards a woman. If he had been looking for someone to manipulate the system with, perhaps he should have aimed a bit higher in age. It is his tendency to grip to beauty that pulls him towards her, one that forces him into decisions that may not be the wisest strategically.
“Bruises.”
The word escapes his lips in a soft octave as he clears his throat, his eyes still focused on the match in his fingers. He blows out the flame and tosses the match towards his feet. He is torn, his brain pulling him in different directions. He could respond to her in a volatile way as he had moments ago, or he could realize that he is being overly cruel.
“For that I apologize, I don’t know what came over me... I...I’ve always had a temper, but I....This is all my fault, I should never have married a child....”
Frederic’s gaze moves to take in her visage, his eyes holding a sadness that was far too genuine to be ignored. He is ashamed when he sees the blood spread across her cheeks, his eyes suddenly shirting to her wrists, they were red and raw; these sights cause him to withdraw a few steps back into the darkness of the room, ashamed beyond belief. Blood is building in his mouth which causes him to reach for his handkerchief to cough into it, blood exiting his mouth staining the white cloth crimson. How could he have done something so foul to someone who he felt close enough to marry? How could he be so horrid towards someone who was most likely upset merely because she was worried of him. He felt as though he was a monster, trapped by what he had done in his past.
Before he can stop them, memories of his daughter dying in his arms flash in his mind, his palms covered in her blood were now covered in his own. He had indirectly caused her death and now he was aiming to kill the last shred of goodness within himself. What was wrong with him? One moment he was completely level-headed and the next he was blood-thirsty. He was sure to have frightened the woman not far form him, someone he suddenly felt completely detached from. His extremities start to go numb as these thoughts run through his mind, his fingers tingling with a sensation he is used to, soon he will collapse he knows. The sensation passes through his feet and his legs and he falls to his knees, letting out another cough as he does so. He feels as though he should die then and there to save everyone the hassle of dealing with him. His head falls forward, his dirty blond hair covering his eyes as he looks up at his wife through the curtains of his hair. She is still standing there, likely frightened beyond belief, thus he finds his eyes diverting towards the ground involuntarily.
He has the face of an angel that could fool even the brightest among them but he is really just a snake in the grass
thedarlingprincesss:
Amanda watched him with narrowed eyes and as soon as he had finished his last sentence, she lifted her hand and slapped him as hard as she could manage. She refused to allow anyone to speak to her like that, her so called husband included. And now she was truly regretting her actions. She did love him, in fact, she was quiet sure that she was falling in love with him. But by now, all of that had diminished and all she felt towards him was anger and quiet frankly, he was beginning to add disgust to the list as well. “You have no idea what responsibilities I have dealt with.” She had dealt with a lot of things. Being royalty she did have many responsibilities and when her father was alive, she did withhold them far more than she did after his death. She was more than a beauty doll standing on the sidelines, though she had often used her charms as a way of persuasion. “And if you truly wish to bring my family into this, then do remember which one of us is of royal blood and can do far more damage.” She said with a glare. By now she was too angry to completely consider what she was saying. Though she knew that if she wanted, then yes, she could cause a lot of troubles. Dramatics had become a specialty of hers.
The sting of her slap rushes through the side of his face, a bit of blood trickling out of the side of his mouth. He has been slapped by a woman before, but that was only for the shows he did in his youth. Never has a woman slapped him out of true, intense anger. Where some might match her ferocity immediately, a maniac laughter escapes his lips in the place where anger should be - which should frighten his wife more than if he had grown angry with her immediately. His hand moves to wipe some of the blood from his mouth as he laughs, a manic look twinkling in his irises as he approaches her rather slowly. His steps seem calculated and precise, as though his brain planned each step meticulously. For what is happening between them is a very delicate thing between newlyweds. She is testing the waters, seeing how much she can get away with when it comes to him, thus he must not allow her to believe she has the upper hand. She is under his care and she is to do as he says.
Once he gets somewhat close to her, the smile falls from his face and a fire burns behind his pupils. This is a look he generally reserves for those who he is about to kill, one he uses to strike fear into the souls of his victims. But this time, he is using it in a different way, in a way to establish his dominance. His hands move to grip her arms tightly as he shoves her roughly into a nearby wall. Frederic is not being gentle as he once was with her in the slightest, as he is aware any show of weakness in such a time will encourage her bratty behavior. To intensify the situation, he holds both of her wrists in one hand for a moment to move his other hand to spread some of his blood across her soft cheek. After he does this, he moves in closer to her face, his voice just above a whisper but scarily intense.
“Let us get one thing straight, I am not hitting you because I am being gracious and providing you a warning. If you ever touch me like that again, I will hit you in return and I will hold nothing back, as you have not held back. As for your threat against me, I am your husband, therefore you are under my guardianship now. You no longer belong to your sister or Naples, you are my wife, my success or my failure is also yours to share in, so you best invest in my success... Even if your threats hold weight to you, they hold none to me, there are many things you do not know of me, but I can promise you that whatever cruel deed you have dreamed up to do to me, I can dream up one that is far worse.”
Throughout the duration of the conversation, Frederic is only centimeters from her face, his breath tickling the tip of her nose. But when his words cease, his grip loosens and he tosses her hands to the side, showing that he is done with her current behavior.
“As for the duties you believe you understand, you have shown with your anger that you know nothing of the true duties of rulers. Yes, have you had small encounters with responsibility, I have no doubt, but never has the crown been solely in your hands - and based on your decisions, it never will be. If you understood what I have just gone through, you would be aware that a new Duke must establish himself with his people in order to command them. But I feel no need to explain myself to you. When you begin to act like the woman I hoped you were, I will involve you in my business dealings. But until then, you shall be treated as the spoiled Princess you are so determined to act as.”
It is sad to see his wife act in such a childish way when he once thought her a powerful woman. Now, as she stood before him, he only saw a spoiled little girl, not someone he could rely on or trust with his deepest secrets and business dealings. She is making it very difficult to respect her, but for some reason, he had not hit her only moment ago. This was somewhat uncharacteristic of him as he usually has no qualms about hurting those who defy him. It was then that he realizes that he was wrong to think he did not have a certain fondness for her. He was not fond of how she was acting in that moment, but memories of a somewhat devious and intelligent young princess floods his mind. Suddenly, he does feel a small shred of love for who he thought her to be, he only hopes that she will prove she is still that woman he dreamt about while he was overseas and not the childish Princess before him.
thedarlingprincesss:
Amanda watched him in disbelief at how he could simply assume that she would immediately go and host a wedding, being all happy about his appearance. And it only angered her even more, if anything. And the fact that he accused her of throwing a tantrum didn’t help at all. — even though she admittedly might be. Crossing her arms, she raised an eyebrow as she watched. “Oh, really?— I might be throwing a tantrum, but I’m not the one who doesn’t keep her promises and decides to give no explanation what so ever.” Shaking her head, she let out a small laugh. “And you really expect for me to immediately go jumping into a wedding dress?” She had never thought that she would have ever be so mad at him, and yet she was proven wrong. Barely months into their relationship as husband and wife. Something which she this past month had been contemplating if it had in reality been a bad and defiantly impulsive choice on her part. “Not happening.”
Her reaction was one that was anticipated on his part, as he realizes that she is a mere child being thrust into the adult world. Despite most being wed and sent off at a much earlier age, she had the luxury of waiting, and unfortunately for her - she chose him. How he had managed to gain her affections and convince her to wed him was truly beyond his capacity of understanding. Perhaps some of his success could be attributed to her desire to defy her sister as well as her naive and childish nature. You see, Frederic loved her, but not in the sense that one should. Perhaps he would describe it as a lust for something he though beautiful; as he had always had an obsession with beauty. There was only one woman in his life he ever believed to love romantically, and it was not the one he was currently wed to. Nevertheless, he figures that he can come to love her in due time, presented that she behaves herself and does her duties as a wife.
Frederic listens to each and every word that drips from her mouth with a venomous quality, and he almost laughs at the way she speaks. If she truly believes he cares of what she is feeling, she is wrong. There is no true discomfort nor was there any true harm in what he had done. Had he cheated on her or brought home a bastard, such an act on her part would be warranted; but in the absence of both things, he thought her tantrum was childish at best.
“I don’t expect you to understand why I was held up as you have never truly held real responsibility in your hands. That was always left to your family, no? Now, when you are finished acting as a child would, meet me in my chambers.”
He states with a coy smile, using the shadows to exit the room as a demon might.
the warm rays of the sun, bathing the French court in golden and yellow tones, provided the perfect opportunity to enjoy a walk through the castle grounds in the wake of spring. the Princess moves gracefully through the lines of bushes of roses, pink and white, red and yellow. a soft smile graces her features, fingertips reaching out to gently touch the petals of roses. to absorbed in her own little world, in her thoughts too, she does not notice another person admiring the blossoming nature until she has almost ran into them.
❛ ——you startled me… ❜
she breathes out through a faint laughter, the smile returns upon her lips, pleasant.
❛ it is such a lovely day to let go o waste, do you not agree? ❜
The day would be beautiful to anyone else that laid their eyes on it, but Frederic found himself quite agitated towards it. Golden light was dripping into his eyes, causing him to squint them as he attempts to take in all the flowers around him. It is almost spring, and the scent of a new season lingers in the air, bringing him a small amount of solace. It has been a long journey for him to return to France, and he was tempted not to come back to French court at all. Had it not been for his wife, he might not have come back at all. It is not until another woman speaks that his attention shifts from the flowers to her. Her beauty surprises him, astounds him even, but he makes no mention of it for it is not his place as a husband. <
“I think it a bit too sunny for my tastes.”
“excuse me, have you seen the seamstress?”
“Why on Earth would a seamstress cross my path?”
Amanda was in no mood for company right now. Frederic, her husband, had promised her to arrive a month ago, and the first week she had been patient about; traveling problematics could happen. But a month of waiting was too much. And unlike most others who would be saddened, then she was pissed. — No she was furious. To have gone through marrying him in the middle of the evening in a small church out in nowhere; giving up all possible dreams she had as a kid about hosting a huge wedding— gone. So once she saw the person approaching her, the irritation in her grew and her anger didn’t lessen at all. Her expression almost murderous. “I suggest you leave, I am no mood for company.— And I may be a princess, but I am by no means delicate.”
The tone in which she uses is one he is unfamiliar with, one that strikes a cord deep within him, playing a somber tune. He is not likely to respond to her foul tone, thus he finds himself holding tight to the shadows of the room, his hands in his pockets fidgeting with one of his invented matches. Frederic is silent as he looks up at her before his eyes move once more towards his shoes, the shadows covering his features in an unsettling manner. Her anger is something he had expected, anticipated really, as he had realized when he left for Scotland that although she was his wife, she was still truly just a child. It had occurred to him many times that he should have waited to learn more of her before courting her so abruptly, but he had not and now he must deal with his decisions.
“I was thinking we might renew our vows, so that we might have a larger wedding. I found a lovely wedding gown in Scotland that I brought back for you. If you are finished throwing a tantrum, perhaps you would like to see it?”
Golden light trickled into a previously darkened room to dance across the feature of a woman who lay quite close to him. With her head on his chest and her eyes closed, she looked as beautiful as he had ever seen her. Her skin was slightly tanned, her eyelashes long enough to almost touch her eyebrows, without all the frills of French court, she was stunning. How lucky he should be to be privileged enough to lay in the same bed as such a creature. Frederic had done nothing to earn such a right, had not been a good man in his life- but he supposed if there was a God, he was trying to make up for the loss of the only thing he had ever wanted to do right by; Anastasia.
“Amanda...”
Her name leaves his lips just above a whisper, his hand moving to brush the hair from her face as he stares down at her. In this moment, he doesn’t feel guilty for all he’s done, instead he feels at peace with what his life has become. He is aware of how lucky he was.
“You have to wake up.”
thedarlingprincesss:
Amanda looked at him in wonder, having no thoughts as to what he could as of her. She had hopes, yes, but she was unsure of what or if it was to ever happen. Looking up at him, her eyes found his. “What is it?”
Her confusion only grew, though a small smile formed on her lips at the thought. “Away with you? I don’t understand? Where to?”
Words that were once clear to him seemed to fall on deaf ears with her, her confusion etched across her face in a way that caused him to retract his next words until she questioned him. Whispers of the future crossed his lips but only escaped as shallow breaths, his nerves engulfing his frame in a way that caused his fingers to shake and his hands to sweat. Amanda tended to make his nerves amplify, but this was different. He didn’t want to tell her about becoming a duke, he wanted her to love him when he had nothing to be sure she would love him when he had everything. Doubt spread across his body like a disease, his feet taking a step away from her as his eyes glanced down at his fingers. A sigh escaped parted lips as confidence swelled within his chest once more. He stepped forward, his hands reaching to grasp her own, electricity shooting from his fingers to every corner of his frame. His hazel eyes moved up to meet hers, candlelight dancing across his chiseled features.
“Let’s get married, tonight..”
