Clarice Lispector, The Passion According to G.H.
"My life is necessarily more that of a male philosopher than that of a woman, with the misfortune of having the heart of a woman." - Mariquita Sánchez
Anxiety is the pressing feeling of needing to do something, all corners of the mind focused in on one invisible unattainable thing.
It’s a downward soft pressure moving between my stomach and my chest.
The pressure defies the rules of the universe and blocks the light from coming up.
In its absence, all of the afflicted parts reign, they tussle with one another for attention so none of them are heard to completion, a low mumble of incoherent negativity.
It’s a physical experience that disguises itself as the voice.
annoying!
separation from god is a necessary good not a necessary evil
separation & unity are both expressions of love
you abandon the thing that saves you the only evil is to stop desiring love itself separation is the only way to experience unity
love is the God of the natural world, not insomuch as nature is beholden to it, but in that it is our only salvation
we become objects when we turn our attention away from love
we are beholden to our nature like an object to gravity when we stop asking for light
a beautiful object reflects our love of nature
love allows us to be more than objects
fantasy
I am exploring fantasizing as being crucial to the human experience.
In EMDR therapy, you imagine a box, and imagine opening the box, and imagine pulling your trauma out of the box to examine it, and then you use your body to retell the details of the story and the characters with the grittiest details you can weep out, and then when you’re done you put it back in the box and do some breathing exercises and somehow it really does help you (left right left right left right) stop thinking about your trauma all the time and only pull it out when you are bored and can handle the emotions.

Jung distinguished between active and passive fantasies. The former, characteristic of the creative mentality, are evoked by an intuitive attitude directed toward the perception of unconscious contents; passive fantasies are spontaneous and autonomous manifestations of unconscious complexes.
Passive fantasy, therefore, is always in need of conscious criticism, lest it merely reinforce the standpoint of the unconscious opposite. Whereas active fantasy, as the product of a conscious attitude not opposed to the unconscious, and of unconscious processes not opposed but merely compensatory to consciousness, does not require criticism so much as understanding. [Ibid.,par. 714.]
Jung developed the method of active imagination as a way of assimilating the meaning of fantasies. The important thing is not to interpret but to experience them.
Continual conscious realization of unconscious fantasies, together with active participation in the fantastic events, has … the effect firstly of extending the conscious horizon by the inclusion of numerous unconscious contents; secondly of gradually diminishing the dominant influence of the unconscious; and thirdly of bringing about a change of personality. [“The Technique of Differentiation,” CW 7, par. 358.]
“once we play out some of these more bizarre fantasies we’re going to enjoy being who we actually are” - theres no crime in being who we are - the closer to true self expression we get the more accepted we are

i will start by saying tonight I was reading Jung on the undiscovered self, wrote this down, and on tumblr saw a quote from henri bergson, listened to a discussion on his "matter and memory" and have found similarities between his theories on time and my loose leaf prose. the host of the jungian zoom class mentioned my phrase "the invisible hand" 3 times after i said it, I find it has resonated tonight I think about other people so much because I feel I owe them that. but I’m doing a disservice to myself and everyone around me by not being fully engaged in the present.
This is where tension comes from, living in the past, pulling the self between two points in time: the past-present-future, the hedonistic love triangle. Eros is the invisible thread strung between the three. Our material state never changes, my face looks the same to you while I live in the past, conversation topics stay the same while you live in the future. The mirage of matter. The myth that things are what they seem. Our selves are so disconnected from one another because reality is so complex, too complex for there to be an easy way to share in it with someone. To share a reality, that is the medicine of our time. That is how the universe heals itself. And perhaps we travel towards the black hole in wavelengths, invisible movement towards decay and rebirth. As our reality complicates itself through technology, the black hole reaches out for us inching through space with its fingers. The invisible hand, the center of our spiral galaxy, the guide of our cosmic behavior. The black hole of Christ’s hand. Or something like that.
i awaken in a soft bed of grass, run its blades through my fingers, i push up and over onto my knees. i eat a strawberry with my teeth, pluck its tiny body, flicking stem. i fold forward into a bow, the dead lightning bug on it's rock altar. i pray to its postmortem glow. rising to my feet, i walk into the cold pool of water before me. i scale the walls behind the falls, symbols of a language written on the walls. i can't make it out, i give them new meaning, i add my own
