Curly locks loosely held in a bun above her head, Emmeline nibbled on a Bertie’s Bean while chocolate hues skimmed the potions recipe sat before her on the desk. Waves of tiredness washed over her endlessly as she released a yawn, begrudgingly trying her hardest to stay awake. Perhaps, if she closed her eyes for just a second – maybe a few minutes – she would survive long enough to get through the book ready for tomorrow’s test. Bloody hell, why did they have to make the library chairs so comfortable?! She rubbed at her squinting eyes until she found herself slipping into a luxurious lull, eyes rolling back – a few minutes turned into an hour – until she was woken up by a loud noise. “–hmph!! uhm–i’m sorry, d-did you say something?”
|| Augustus never made a habit of socializing. What was the point?, he’d ask himself begrudgingly whenever one of his housemates would try to worm into his life, asking him senseless questions he didn’t want to answer, didn’t want to be a part of. The world was fucking doomed and attachment was dangerous. He preferred the company of himself, of books, of people and places he could control.
The library was always more quiet just before curfew, when anal retentive, panic at the drop of a hat students would run back to their dorms, afraid of getting in trouble. It was just about when Augustus was mid-way through the Restricted Section that a strictly restricted book fell off the shelf much to his dismay, clambering to the floor with an ungodly sound, hollering until he kicked it shut. Irritated, he scooped it up and ducked out, head down and hands shoved inside of his pockets. A soft voice to his left made him realize he was hardly alone.
“I don’t tend to sound like a demon,” Augustus replied dryly, giving the girl a look. “It’s near curfew.” Maybe that’d get her to leave.
