So you really don't remember anything? 'Bout your time with us? No.
《"I don't think so, Quinn."
"Quill-"
"Quill. I don't think so.》
Grateful
"I... had to..."
Rage filled Peter in ways he had never known before. His world fell apart for the fourth time in his life- first his mother's death, then his father being evil, then losing Yondu, and now, Gamora was gone. His Gamora.
He'd traded her life for a freaking stone. Like that's all she was worth.
"No, you didn't."
That was all he could manage to say, his thoughts still reeling.
"Quill, I've spent most my life surrounded by my enemies. I will be grateful to die among my friends."
But she hadn't, had she? All because he hadn't been able to pull the trigger fast enough, giving Thanos time to understand the situation. Thanks to him, she'd died alone, at the hand of her abuser, trading her life for the one thing she had sworn to fight.
One minute, he was broken and whispering, and the next, he was hitting Thanos with his blasters for what he had done. Gamora didn't deserve a death like this. Yet it's what she got.
He felt someone holding him back moments later, but he could barely process anything.
"Quill, I've spent most my life surrounded by my enemies. I will be grateful to die among my friends."
At the very least, she had deserved to die with all of them present, a final goodbye, and respect to her memory. She deserved a funeral like Yondu had gotten, with all the Guardians in attendance.
He thought about the last time she had seen them all. Rocket, sarcastic, and gone too soon. Groot, distracted, and too absent-minded to properly say goodbye. Mantis and Drax, in pieces on the ground. And Peter himself, staring at her in horror as the gun he held to her throat dissipated in his hands.
"Quill, I've spent most my life surrounded by my enemies. I will be grateful to die among my friends."
He hated how it had come to this. How Thanos continued to affect her, years after she'd escaped him. How he had stolen away the one thing she had wanted for herself: a normal death.
"Quill, I've spent most my life surrounded by my enemies. I will be grateful to die among my friends."
Gamora could not have been grateful when she died, could not have accepted that this was her death. Neither could Peter.

Yet to watch GOTG 3 (no spoilers, please), but the release made me very tempted to write about this scene in Infinity War and what he could have been thinking when he heard that Gamora died.
I hope you all liked it!
