untilyouhavebeentested entered the office
( @untilyouhavebeentested )
Angel nervously thumbed through a book, unable to concentrate on a single sentence for the last twenty minutes, but maintaining the guise of interest. The sound of footsteps threw him off, or at least his pretend-reading. He gazed up momentarily, realizing exactly who it was, and comfortably looked back down at the page he was on. “There aren’t any new cases.” Realizing how dismissive that sounded, he placed the book in his lap and slightly perked up. “Unless, of course, you had a vision?”
“Oh o’ course, wish fer me ta ‘ave a painful smack in the head with a hammer ta get things goin’ fer ya.” Doyle responded as a light aggravated sigh escaped his lips while his shoulders slumped slightly. He leaned against the door frame of Angel’s office as he watched him before he revealed a shake of his head, “Not a word up there, pretty quiet all around - think it’s safe ta say maybe somethin’ bigger than usual’s a brewin’?”

“And throwing dumb blonde insults at me too?” She put a hand over her dead heart, mustering a clearly fake, wide-eyed look of innocence. Words dripped with sarcasm. “You really do care.”
"Not wha I was actually sayin’ here.” Doyle admitted before he placed his fingers upon his forehead to rub it slightly to reveal some of his frustration. He released a deep exhale as he returned his hand to his side, “Just the insultin’ part.” He added, he figured why make nice if she wasn’t willing to, and if this was the only way to get through to her to be on the right side, he might as well try in various ways.

“…you want a spell that makes him visible?” Willow asked, jumping to the conclusion she thought made the most sense.
"--Well, yeah. Naturally that would be the first thing ta assume. Right.“ Doyle cleared his throat as he avoided eye contact for a brief moment before there was a shrug to help him meet her gaze once more, “Even Angel didn’t think o’ tha. ‘nyway, yer got somethin’ like that around?”

Lilah looked over at the man that had just appeared next to her. “Yeah was kind of hoping he’d, oh I don’t know leave town. He’s becoming a problem for my employers.” She informed him before taking a few slow sips of her scotch.
"Well that’s a real shame - honestly, I feel bad fer ‘em.” Doyle expressed as a monotone voice escaped his lips before he brought his gaze upon her. “Angel’s not leavin’ anytime soon, especially with you lot everywhere. You keep messin’ with ‘im, he’ll keep fightin’ back - kinda stubborn in case y’haven’t noticed.”

Xander nodded at the demon. Full on, he knew about the fear of being rejected, but he knew sometimes it was worth pushing through it to have what you wanted. If Doyle liked Cordy as much as he claimed, he would try to. Besides if it boiled down to things, Xander still was protective over his friend. “But gotta tell ya, if you hurt her…I can find you. Don’t care if you are half demon, I got a bat. And know how to use a gun…just warning ya as a friend here.”
He then shrugged. “Well actually, she chased after me…but that is beyond the point.”
The corner of his lips tugged as a warm expression entered the pool of his eyes while he sent the other a nod. He gladly accepted the frontal of his position, to be honest, he wouldn’t have it any other way. “Just don’t get offended if I run away a few times.” He joked before he shook his head with a shrug, “I don’t think I ‘ave the guts ta hurt her - but if I ever do ... I deserve whatever I get that’ll come after me.”
“--’N what sense of the word d’yer mean by chase?” Doyle needed a clarification as his brows furrowed together.

“Right.” Nodding, Willow smiled a bit, eyebrow arching in the process. “So what’s up?”
"Yeah, well, we’ve got this -- problem. An invisible demon - which makes it hard to y’know see it to kill it. ‘N since I can’t see it, I don’t have much ta go by here.”

"--Yer one o’ Buffy’s friends, right?” Doyle questioned with the knit of his brows as he hoped he got the right person, “Tara?” He added to help confirm before he reached out his hand for a friendly shake, “‘m Doyle, workin’ with Angel in LA.”

“Heard yer’ve been askin’ ‘bout Angel.” Doyle appeared before he took the seat at the bar stool next to her. He didn’t plan to order anything, just wanted a talk, more information about who they were and how he could help Angel be one step ahead, “Anythin’ specific y’wanna know ‘bout ‘im?”

"--Uh, hey. Y’think you could tell me where the hell I am?” Doyle questioned with the knit of his brows, last thing he remembered was that he had been on a case with Angel and somehow ended up with a headache in another place he’d least expect.

“Well, she does come from Sunnydale. Big ol’ Hellmouth. Demons are not known for the nice…just give her time. Cordy has grown up a lot since sophomore year. She used to be an uber mean girl. Not saying it to be mean. She would admit it.”
He paused and then thought. “Its complicated. She was a demon for over a thousand years. Being human is kind of strange to her, but she wants to date me. So, not sure what she is thinking. It amazes me still that even Cordelia found me attractive. Then again, it seems I attract demon women. Not that Cordy is a demon…she was the rare one that wasn’t.”
Doyle nodded as he offered the other a friendly smile to show his appreciation toward the other, “She’s the kind o’ person that would say what she thinks.” He agreed before a deep breath left him, even if he didn’t admit about his half-demon part, for all he knew she might still decline him. His whole ordeal was only fear of rejection and despite Xander’s attempt to compare him to the other, it didn’t help calm him as much as he thought it might - not for long anyway.
“She’ll get used to it - bein’ human, Anyanka, I mean.” Doyle clarified with a nod as he rested his hands into the pockets of his jacket, “Y’seem like a good guy ta me - don’t know what y’did to hurt Cordy, but it seems like y’d learn from it. Can’t hurt to ‘ave a go at it wit the former demon, right? Besides, bet she needs help from someone to get settled livin’ in this world like the rest of the humans.”

“Right…” she nodded, looking around the lobby. The slayer didn’t know why she was there really. It wasn’t like the vampire could somehow wipe her records and even he could, who’s to say he would do that for her. She hadn’t exactly earned or deserved any favors from Angel. “Uh…no…think I’ll come back or whatever…” she answered looking over at the man.
Faith nodded slightly, eyes returning to her hands. “Yea could say that…”
"--Well, if y’want Angel to be here when y’come back - maybe give us a call first, yeah?” Doyle suggested as he carefully pulled out one of their business cards that Cordelia had put together for them. He reached the card out to her with hopes she would take it, even he could see the expression upon her face that called out for need of help.
“Right, well, d’you want me to leave yer name fer him? Gotta tell ‘im something if yer need ‘is help ‘n all.” Doyle pointed out with a gentle tone that touch his voice.

“That might be true, if I’d actually slept.” Angel’s gaze remained on the stack of mail. He didn’t bother to open any of them. Bills. No returned invoices. No checks to cash. He tossed them aside before accepting the mug Doyle passed him.
His gaze followed his to the empty desk. “She called early this morning.” Which, would’ve probably rudely awoken him, had he been sleeping. But Cordelia had rushed through a brief apology and an explanation that had something to do with her parents. “She might be back in Sunnydale for a few days, visiting her folks. I told her to go ahead. It’s been slow anyway. Maybe it’ll stay that way.”
Taking a sip from the coffee, he immediately recoiled, a look of disgust on his face. His taste buds were dead, so he could only imagine how awful this tasted to people of the living persuasion. “I think I’d rather have nothing.”
"Champions like yer need yer rest, Angel. Vampire or not. ‘N not just sayin’ that s’yer can be in a better mood either.” Doyle mentioned with the raise of his brows as a serious tone developed across his voice, “Though it might make my day smooth if yer were.” He added in a half-joking manner.
Doyle rolled his eyes with the wave of his hands that moved upward as if he was tired of something he had just said, “Now that you’ve gone sayin’ that somethin’ might just pop up around the corner fer all we know. Y’think you could’ve mentioned that a little earlier?” He responded with a stern tone in his voice, it only took long enough for one to wish something that turned up and it happened -- eventually.
“S’not like you’ve got taste buds anyway - why not mix a drop of coffee inta yer blood?” Doyle suggested with a teasing voice attached to it.
buffy.
She looked away as if the sight of him, pantless, was too much for her to bear & really? Kinda was. Like why did she even have to ask him to put them on?
“You know if I was a client, your legs definitely wouldn’t be enough to charm me.” She turned her back to him, walking around, inspecting the office. No, Angel was the last person she wanted to see, Cordelia, someone she wasn’t in the mood for either. She kinda hoped the place was empty so she could just spend a moment saying goodbye to Angel. She doubted they’d never see one another again but, honestly, she didn’t think she could handle it if they ever did see each other again.
“No, not lookin’ for anyone really. Just passing by. ‘Bout to head out, kinda hoping he wasn’t here.” She twisted her lips. “Hoping no one was here really..”
"'N here I was thinkin’ that would do the trick. Just tryin’ ta get demon guts outta it is all - ‘m sure that shows we’re serious ‘bout this business.” Doyle only had a joke of his humor for her to taste in his comments, he only meant to be friendly about it.
There was a clear of his throat when he gently tugged at his jacket to fix it once his pants had been back on. He hoped that was passed them - and definitely wouldn’t mention it to either co-workers. He made his way toward her and walked in front with the fold of his arms as he looked over her, almost as if to read her to see if she was only here for a quick visit, “Hopefully this is better fer ya, yeah?” He added with the wave of his arms before he returned them to his sides to reveal his complete outfit that nothing was missing this time.
Doyle shrugged as he rested hands into the pockets of his jacket while a tense expression crossed him with the knit of his brows, “Sorry - someone’s gotta mind the shop, y’know?” He added before he looked both ways until he faced her once more, “Guess I could let ya have a few minutes? Not sure when Angel or Cordy’ll be back though.”

She was two steps from the door when she abruptly stopped. The high heel of her boot ground into the floor as she pivoted and turned to face him. Her smile was tight. “I like layers,” she replied. “Wonder how many it’ll take me to peel off ya before I get to the squishy inside parts.”
Nancy’s head canted, eyes glancing toward the ceiling, as if visualizing said carnage. When she looked to Doyle again, she flashed a bright smile. “See you real soon, stud.”
Blonde hair flounced over her should as she turned again and headed out into the night.
Doyle clenched his jaw as he watched her carefully while his form grew tense as her words passed his ears. Before now, he only hoped to avoid the rough physical contact of a fight, but if he needed to defend himself he supposed he had to suck it up.
A deep exhale escaped his lips as there was a shake of his head once he saw her leave their office. There was only a slight string of relief left in him the moment she disappeared from his view.
Doyle only waited for Angel’s return as he kept himself busy to warn him before she were to return.
