Not to mention that they are NOT character, they are stereotypes, they are stereotypes of what a woman is when in power or what a woman does when in doubt. And they are bad stereotypes, in fact I was surprised when they didn’t shout like all women seem to like doing in movies.
Rey is no better (At least in the last film), then again, neither were any of the male characters, in fact the portrayal of most characters was racist and ageist as fuck.
Finn: Wanting to free things that are being whipped (and not the kids), instead of accomplishing the mission, being attacked with a taser, breaking the law in the most ridiculous way ever. Has to be saved.
Poe: Being defiant and breaking rules, then rebelling against authority and having to be knocked out.
Rose: Petite woman, completely weak, ends up with the African American guy, useless in the large aspect of things, has no motivation for anything and changes mood faster than anyone. Prevents the protection of the rebels by saving Finn and forces a kiss on him.
Rey: Perfect, too perfect, but why, just why? Her backstory is terrible if she’s really “no one’s” kid, she knows everything or learns it from the first moment, just, why? Where are her flaws, her fears, her mistakes, her consequences.
Luke: Old-getoutofmyyard-man, makes no sense, he’s not a character, he’s an old man stereotype who has no purpose at the end. There’s no great reunion, there’s no connection to his past, there’s nothing. He’s not Skywalker THE hero, nor Skywalker the optimistic guy, nor the dude who would give anything for his family, he’s a jerk.
Holdo: Woman in power who treats people so poorly that they have to do a mutiny against her... Perfect stereotype to cement???? WAT, and also has time to dye her hair in the middle of the war?
These are not characters, these are stereotypes we’ve seen all over, and I’m honestly surprised that people are not complaining about how sexist, racist and ageist these stereotypes are. They make no freaking sense, and then we get the “They are beautiful, they are perfect”-posts about these stereotypes, and I’m like.
The actors are okay, I guess, no one should talk bad about the actors, ever, because the actors are people getting paid to play as these stereotypes/so called “characters”. But the characters are bad, they have shitty motivations, shitty development, shitty everything.
