@unusualdiaries
I wanna get into anime. What should I watch first?
What genres are you into?
I know nothing about anime so idk
@unusualdiaries you can assist with this
Anything from the 90s so like Cowboy Bebop (space bounty hunters and great fighting scenes), YuYu Hakusho(urban, street fights, supernatural stuff), I use the app Aozora to track anime and it lists it by release dates too. Kissanime has practically every single anime there is for free and in English Dub or English Sub (in Japanese). I recommend watching it in Japanese though because some translations in English were censored or just wrong lol. Hope this helps!
when you rediscover music you used to listen to years ago and it’s still good.
So You Want To Be A Good Little Nugget?: Study "Hacks" Part II
So You Want To Be A Good Little Nugget?: Study “Hacks” Part II
Welcome to the part most of you probably really want to see. Rather than give a meaty introduction, I’ll go ahead and just dive in. Studying 1. Mix and Match. Instead of sticking to one topic, work with different material in one sitting. Doing a series of problems helps with critical thinking and developing strategies 2. Time your sitting. Personally, I adore the pomodoro method. I often found…

Conferences…it is finally that time of the semester where members attend annual conferences for their respective organizations (AMS, SEM, or in my case both). My seminar in ethnomusicology just completed our conference project, The Art of Emergency, which was a HUGE success. My favorite part, of course, was the concert on Friday night “Celebrating Congo” although we were really celebrating the…

Otaku Journal 10.16
Welcome to the first post of the mini series “Otaku Journals”! For those unfamiliar with the term or the anime realm, otaku is a Japanese term that refers to people with obsessive interests especially in the anime and manga fandom. Some think it’s extremely negative and refers to “hermit” individuals, but that is not always the case. Before I begin the first “entry,” I’d like to briefly discuss…

I have really been awful with creating posts and updating this blog, but I owe no apology due to the tower of work I have been cutting through. The month we’ve all been waiting for and dreading…the month when approximately 90% of all of your assignments, papers, and projects are due…October. Fortunately, only eight weeks remain in the semester and a much needed winter break will take place. I’m…

Literary Adventures I: William Cheng's "Just Vibrations"
Literary Adventures I: William Cheng’s “Just Vibrations”
Photo credit: A. Kori Outside of the archives, musical puns, netflix, and social media, I enjoy stretching out on my bed to read a nice good book. Let me tell you something, William Cheng’s Just Vibrations: The Purpose of Sounding Good is one of those good books. While the bookworm in me prefers to have a hard copy of a book to tote around and caress its sweet pages, I had to settle for the…

Today concludes my third week of graduate school and it was this week that everything started to hit me. I have been asked “How do you like it?” or “Are you enjoying yourself so far?” The best answer to these questions would be my undergraduate piano teacher’s reaction said today. He said, “You look to lively and happy to be a grad student.” Now it isn’t necessarily a bad thing and of course he…
