🌙  :  ASHLYNN.  as a child, rumors began that the queen gave birth to a mute. she didn’t speak in public meetings, traded no stories with other children, and spoke in simple words to nursemaids. studied, trained and learned. ashlynn matured around fifteen, when her parents first broached the question of marriage as a real possibility for her. ashlynn wasn’t happy, but she understood the importance of it, and in fact, looked forward to the prospect of living outside of her parents’ watchful eyes. ashlynn never wants to be a child. she didn’t begin to enjoy freedom until her late teen years when she escaped the castle. 

⚡️  :  YIFAN.  free. too free. with absent parents and nothing but time, yifan lacked the rigid structure and schedules that defined many of his peers’ childhoods. he missed out on a lot of learning and important observations on how to be a duke, and it wasn’t until he became a squire that he learned what responsibility was. at fourteen, yifan assisted a knight and came to appreciate  ( even adore )  routine, and it was a pivotal moment in his maturation. yifan looks back on his squire and teenage years fondly, but he appreciates being an adult, as well as the closeness he feels with his siblings now.

➥ growing up in the ports of his family’s home, it isn’t a stretch to say the drunken ramblings of sailors and pirates inspired him to take a wonderous approach to life. growing up, he spent more time on the rocky beaches and wooden docks than in his home. at sixteen, sieon captured by pirates. his family couldn’t afford the demands, but he didn’t mind. soon, he held them all in the palm of his hands and convinced them to not only keep him alive, but to let him become a part of their crew.

➥ sieon steered them towards famed treasures and discovered wealth in hidden temples, lost worlds, and distant lands. sieon enjoyed the seas and only returned when a letter from his mother arrived: his father was sick; they wanted him home. for the past few years, sieon’s ached for adventure. struggling to maintain their region, he finds his thoughts wandering to the escape he found outside of the “civilized” world. he needs excitement again, and he’ll almost do anything to taste it once more.

➥ crush. they’re sweet on the eyes and to the ears. sieon’s a constant flirt, harmlessly so, but he feels a little squeeze squeeze to the heart whenever they’re around. it probably doesn’t mean anything, but he’s hanging on every word they say. 

➥ betrothal.  nothing’s set in stone yet. after all, they’re one of the poorer, less well-known houses in the kingdom. their lands offer more criminals with bribes than tax payers. sieon isn’t keen on the idea of marrying, but his mother’s urging a safe match as their father’s health continues to decline. 

➥ discoverer.  on an impromptu journey, sieon discovers his magical powers, opening a world of questions, concerns, and danger. they’re with him when it happens and vow to keep his secret  ( for whichever purpose ). a confidante by circumstance, they’re by his side when he chooses to tap into this newfound potential.

➥ it’s humbling to watch the very people who are meant to support you laugh in your face. the airrins were never a particularly strong ducal house, but yifan’s brother taught him how they were great at one point in the distant past. yet, they were to inherit a ruin. a crumbling name and threats to pass off their holdings to another if their father didn’t gather his wits and make things right. but even as a child yifan knew his father was weak, distracted by drink and a string of bed partners. 

➥ changes came easily five years ago when, at last, yifan and his siblings inherited the ducal house together. the three of them had made a pact when they were younger: the mind, the voice, and the weapon. yifan trained his entire youth to be the weapon, the strong arm to help his siblings start a new life and fortify their positions in this uncertain world. tirelessly, they’ve spent the last few years rebuilding their home and expanding their riches. they’re on the upswing, and don’t intend to stop the prosperity anytime soon.
