Waterproof Case by DryCASE
The DryCASE waterproof case is a fantastic way to protect your device from water damage while remaining functional. Using a simple vacuum seal, it stays waterproof up to 100 feet and allows your device to be used to take photos or even listen to music. It does have some minor flaws, but is a must have accessory.
This protective gear comes neatly packaged with a few main parts:
waterproof case
air removal pump
lanyard
buoyant armband
When used together, these items make it easy and safe for any electrical device to be used around water. When testing the case, I mainly used an iPhone 4S, which fit perfectly. I also tried it with a digital camera and generic mp3 player. The versatility of this case is great, as you can see that it will work with a variety of products that you own.
Within the packaging, a small card was including stating that the item was "Tested underwater overnight". This gave me greater peace of mind and really shows the seriousness of the product.
Installation
The installation of the product was fairly easy. The included instructions are: Slide in the device, lock the closure shut and pump out the air. After these three steps you can go ahead and use your device in and around water.
This process was fairly easy to do. I took my time positioning the iPhone before taking the air out, as it will stay put once properly installed. I found it hard to remove all of the ripples of plastic when removing the air, but it didn't prove much of a problem.
The kit includes an air pump that can be used to seal the case. If you're out and about, simply suck the air out which is just as easy.
Durability
Since trying out this case, I've found it to work as described when in contact with water. I was able to use the touch screen of the iPhone well, and no water got into the case.
You can see the case in action over at YouTube.
Overall I tested the case for around 15 minutes in the water and everything was fine.
Style
DryCASE have put some thought into the design of the case, as it remains waterproof and protective while not adding a huge amount of bulk. It's small and compact and looks good. The accessories included are detachable and can be used only when required. It feels very sturdy and well-made, which is a must for a product protecting your valuable electronics.
Feel/Usability
When using the phone with the case on, most functions work as normal. The touch screen is usable, while having a few ripples of plastic over the top. Although this occurs, I'm sure the plastic could be smoothed out to be completely flat with a bit of effort. Refer to the picture below to see this.
The buttons on the iPhone still work, while the sleep/awake button became a little hard to press. This is the same for the home button, but it is expected as the air is removed so the "click" feelings are removed. When used in conjunction with DryCASE's waterproof earphones, the AUX jack also works really well.
The armband included also makes the iPhone able to float in the water, which is great if you use the case and need it to stay afloat. This feature comes in the package with the case itself.
See the AUX port below.
When attempting to use this case with my generic mp3 player, it worked well. The headphone sound was great and I had no problems. With a digital camera however, I found it difficult to take pictures with the case on as the camera button was hard to press and the lens was not able to fully expand.
This would vary depending on the device you have, but I my experience with the case wasn't so good when I used my digital camera.
Overall
I find this product from DryCASE to be one of the best accessories available for the iPhone. Although it does work with other devices, it may be a bit of a hit-and-miss. The protection that it provides is great, and when used in conjunction with the waterproof earphones the experience is made even better.
I would defiantly recommend this product to anyone, as it provides great protection and can be used over and over again. DryCASE also make a similar case for tablets such as the iPad. Although I have not tried this, I would assume it is very similar, only with a larger size.

PixelSkin HD by Speck (iPhone 4/4S)
The PixelSkin HD is a great, grippy TPU iPhone 4/4S case by Speck. It provides all round protection, while having a few minor flaws.
Since purchasing my case, Speck have modified the camera cut out to be much larger.
After using this case for a large amount of time, I've been quite happy with it's all-round protection, as well as the general loo of the device. It doesn't add too much bulk and isn't too expensive.
Getting the case on and off is one of my main concerns, as it is a very difficult process. I would not recommend this case to someone who frequently changes their mind, as this is not a simple process. With my experience of this case, I found it best to wriggle the top corners of the iPhone out of the case separately, before sliding the rest of it out.
Durability
The case does a great job against daily scratches, scuffs and drops. The TPU material allows for a snug fit, so there is no need to worry about lint entering the case. The textured back of the PixelSkin HD is another great feature, as the chances of the iPhone slipping out of the users hands is minimal.
Speck have also included practical cut-outs for the 3.5mm jack, mute switch and data connector. These do not limit compatibility with many popular accessories, although I would stray from this case if connection to a iPhone dock is a must - as it is a difficult product to continually remove.
Style
The PixelSkin HD comes in a variety of colours, highlighting the stylish backing. If you are after a simplistic design, then this case fits the bill nicely. The slim nature of the case is another highlight, as only a minimal amount of bulk is added to the iPhone.
Feel
The overall feel of the case is great. It's textured, slimline and nice to hold. One of my main annoyances of this case is the power/lock button. With the case on, the 'click' of this button disappears, and becomes much harder to press.
The PixelSkin HD's TPU material is also great as you don't have to worry about the case stretching or changing shape over time. It will hold it's look for a long time to come. I have the black colour, meaning most dirt on the case is not visible. The reviews on the Speck website outline that some of the brighter cases become dirty fast, and are hard to clean.
Overall
All in all, Speck have done a great job with this case. It is a great design and feels great. Despite the cons relating to the power/lock button and removal of the case, I would recommend it to those in need of basic protection.

Survivor by Griffin (iPhone 4/4S)
The Survivor case for iPhone 4/4S from Griffin Technology holds true to their claim as "the most protective case we've ever built".
The case itself comes with three main parts, allowing for maximum protection against sand/dust, shock/drop, wind/rain and vibration:
internal frame + display shield
silicone outer cover
belt clip
On initial inspection, each part of the case seems very sturdy and durable. The internal plastic frame fits snugly around the iPhone, clipping easily into place. The silicone outer cover then slides over the top of this, fitting around the plastic cover and phone. This is a fairly easy process to do, but would become tiresome if you continually needed to remove it for connection to an iPhone dock or bulky cables.
Durability
Griffin advertise that the Survivor "meets or exceeds US/UK Military Standards", making the case appeal to those in need of superior protection. Covering the screen of the iPhone is a display shield, which will protect the display from scratches, and will help to prevent cracking. The feel of the screen takes a little while to get used to however, as the protective plastic has a slightly different feel to the normal screen of the phone.
There are small holes cut for the speaker and front facing camera, along with plastic plugs blocking the 3.5mm jack, camera, silent switch and dock connector. These plugs seem to prevent lint and other small particles from entering the exposed areas, and don't hinder compatibility with too many products. The headphone jack was my main concern however, as many cases I have used in the past block access to this port. On the Survivor, this isn't as much of a problem, as the generic Apple earphones fit perfectly, and L-shaped connectors should fit in without much hassle.
The back camera cover is one of my main problems with the case, as although it provides great protection to the lens, it becomes difficult to take quick snaps with the camera, as it can become quite fiddly to open up the back area.
Style
In regards to the overall appearance of the Survivor, I find my version (white) quite nice to look at. Of course, this is not a simplistic case, and does not show any of the original iPhone design. However, this area will vary from person to person, but the range of colours offered by Griffin allows for the user to choose their own look.
The belt clip that comes included with the case is another area to consider. It does it's job well, and can even be used as a stand for watching videos without holding the phone. Although it is not very sturdy, it is able to function as intended.
Feel
The feel of the Survivor is quite nice, as it does not have a cheap sticky feel to it. Instead, the silicone is textured and comfortable in hand. It is defiantly one of the more bulky cases that I have tried, but protection does come at a cost.
Overall
Overall, the Griffin Survivor iPhone 4/4S case is a great product for those looking for complete iPhone protection. I would not recommend it to those who do not need this functionality, as it would only add unnecessary bulk. In the Australian market, I'd recommend this case to any tradie in need of protection against their smartphone.
Take a look at the Griffin Technology site for more photos of the product and for information on how to purchase.
