Litwak's Family Fun Center had been closed for a while. Although the world outside had gone dark, the lights from the game cabinets illuminated the arcade, and gave it a warm glowing effect that radiated comfort.
In Fix-It Felix Jr., Niceland was pre-programmed to always be night. It was a simple game, with a simple background. A few clouds here and there, and a few pixilated stars to match.
It was quiet, peaceful.
It was everything that Hero's Duty wasn't. There was no need for beacons here, or guns. The only chaos came from the wrecker, and unlike those blasted cy-bugs, his code went beyond wrecking and throwing bricks.
And the little hero of this game hadn't been too bad, if she did say so herself.
Felix was many things, but 'bad' was not a word that she– or anyone else– would ever associate with him. A bit clueless, maybe. A little twitchy, sure. But bad? The thought tickled her.
"What's so funny, honey?" Felix turned on his side, a grin plastered on his face – come to think of it, when WASN'T he smiling? And before she could think, 'Could he get any CUTER?', the handyman giggled at his own rhyme.
'Yes, he could.' Tamora answered in her head.
"Nothing, babe. I was just thinking." She shifted onto her side, her hair falling in front of her eye, as it usually did.
Felix, ever so gentle, tucked the strand behind her ear, and if his hand lingered for a moment, neither one of them thought to bring attention to it.
"About?" Oh, he was a persistent one. Hard to believe he'd been anything other than persistent, but there had been a time when he wouldn't push.
She rolled her eyes, but smiled at him. She HAD been the one who chided him on not being persistent enough, so she supposed she couldn't complain.
"You."
There. A one-word reply was sure to stump him. Or maybe not – oh, definitely not.
Honey glows filled his cheeks, and yet another chorus of squeaky giggles erupted from him.
"Tck, okay…" She knew it was useless to keep up the stoic act around him, but that never stopped her from trying… and failing.
Felix reached out, lacing their fingers together, and out of habit, ran his thumb across her wedding band before bringing her knuckle to his lips, and placing a tender kiss on her hand.
Bingo.
Her arms wrapped around him, pulling him closer against her, and he couldn't help but think about how perfectly they fit together.
"You know, Tammy," He murmured, pressing his lips against her neck.
She brought her lips to his forehead, returning the gesture before mumbling a reply – which had just been, "Mm?"
"There's no other place I'd rather be than here, in your arms."
