Samuel "Sam" Sharpe, or Sharp, National Hero of #Jamaica, was the slave leader behind the widespread Jamaican Baptist War slave rebellion of 1832.  He was executed for his role in the rebellion, he said in his last words: "I would rather die among yonder gallows, than live in slavery. "
