rambling below for the sake of not overwhelming

fanfic: which yet is love by @arctic-sylvalum (I adore this fanfic.. the way dialogue is written and just how unique the premise is in relation to Zelda's capture in Lorule, makes it one of my fav hilzel fics at the moment. I love the way in which Hilda speaks and treats Zelda feels almost like actual words and actions you would witness from her in the actual game, it's simple and very endearing. 10/10 from the hilzelism ^_^)

print book: Moominvalley in November by Tove Jansson (I've been rereading one of my favorite moomin books recently.. I wanted to get more inspiration for the lavender au in relation to its ending. The ending of the au is already set in stone, but I still wish to explore more ideas in order to detail it in the most meaningful way possible.)

education related: In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez (My last semester required me to take a course in Latin American history and so I was assigned to read this. A heartbreaking but important and inspiring book one should read.)

Obsession (2026) (I watched it with a friend a couple days ago. One of the most uncomfortable and terrifying films I have seen recently. Truly a brilliant work that depicts the violation of one as how it truly is, a despairing and horrific act that even when over, will leave its scars on a victim forever.)

Derry Girls (2018) (I rewatched it mainly because I wanted to see the "I'm the wee... lesbian" line lol. But seriously it's funny, would recommend.)

Last read: ngl i don't really read proper fiction books and i'm not putting my fic bookmarks on blast hehe.... but i've been doing prep for my dissertation, so i've been reading a lot of papers on ancient greek homosexuality. a foundational essay on which is "Dover, Foucault and Greek Homosexuality" by James Davidson, a big voice and scholar in the field, particularly against the names from the title and the restrictive one dimensional theories they put forward. this paper is very interesting both in what it has to say and also the context under which Davidson is writing under, as a gay man in the early 2000s. i don't know if i'll read his full book on the topic, but i may have to lol

Last song: the literal last song i was listening to is Stonecarver by Subrosa, one of my favourite doom metal bands :3 more generally i've been getting really into Warning who im going to see in december, and listening to FOB's Infinity On High album a loooot. its so hw link music sorry dont make the rules

Last film: my mum wanted to go see the Masters of the Universe remake, so i saw that opening night with her and my sibling! i had mixed feelings of it, it looked phenomenal visually but im not too big a fan of 'cringing at yourself/your own premise' humour which it had a lot of unfortunately. wished it was more earnestly campy instead of undercutting every emotional moment with a joke about how stupid everything is. oh well, he-man had a pretty face at least 🔥

Last series: i mostly watch youtube but ive also been rewatching the original Futari Wa Precure and thats been super fun. i missed pretty cure a lot its been nice to see them again

Sweet or salty: sweet definitely sweet alllll the way. i love chocolates i love sweets and while i also do enjoy salty popcorn and chipsticks, ill choose sweet over that any day

Tea or coffee: i dont drink any hot drinks, but i do like bottled lipton ice tea, so thats one tea i like over no coffee i like

Working on: currently using an rp thing me and my friends are doing to develop an au of hw link where he is more miserable and mentally ill than normal, which im very much enjoying. im also working on finishing my piece for a zine about zelda villains - im drawing hilda <3 agonies that i cant post it all publicly but i can share wips with friends so 👀 lmk if you want a sneak peek. and, as always, slowly chipping away at several fics, which currently is an oc x canon fic, my ganlink longfic, and a variety of hw ravioli

RACEHORSE OR NO RACEHORSE

If you want it to be an irl horse, I say determine if the horse you wanna use is an actual racehorse, or if it's a horse you know (and yes this includes knowing the name).

If it's going to be an actual, irl racehorse... definitely take into account the jockey as well. Take into account their uniform colors, the horse's pelt colors, both of their personalities, etc. as stated in the images above. Don't skimp the details, and if they have a track history of wins and losses, definitely include those too.

If you're going to use a horse you know about that has no ties to races, similarly to myself with making umas based on my grandpa's horses, take into account their foal-hood or filly-hood. Analyze their personality and how they behave. If you know the owner, maybe even look into them as well to incorporate traits of the owner. If the horse is of non-Japanese origins, such as Western, English, Norwegian, etc. then perhaps even take into account the scenery of the area in which they live, particularly using this in their racing uniform.

Taking the two points above into account, what I say is the most important above all else, is that you represent that horse with respect and love. The canon umas are done with the utmost care and attention, so truthfully you should do the same. And while I know people will... do what they will... with their fanmade characters for any fandom, but... perhaps include the rule for others that no R18, gore, or fetish content be made of them?? Especially if it's made in the image of an irl horse??? A fanmade uma based on no real, living animal is one thing in my personal opinion because you aren't harming the image and reputation of anyone or anything, but... if you're using an irl horse, be it an actual racehorse or otherwise, making that sort of content of the uma counterpart just feels wrong.
