Yesterday, while you were probably stuck in traffic or getting off work the Apple event was happening. However we got you because we will fill you in on what you missed, and all the big announcements (at least the ones that will interest you).
Apple came in with bells and whistles as usual and announced the following
As expected the technology giant dropped the curtain on their new ‘S’ iPhone models. These models are just iPhone 6 and 6 Plus on botox.
The 4.7-inch 6S and 5.5-inch 6S Plus are both available in a new rose-gold aluminum style. And to prevent Bendgate: Part II, the new iPhones feature 7000 series aluminum-zinc wrought alloy like the Apple Watch Sport. Both phones will come with the new iOS 9, which is packed with new features.
The biggest update is most likely the addition of 3D Touch, a new pressure-sensitive interface that senses the difference between taps, normal presses, and firm presses. It’s essentially the iPhone version of a right-click. Screen sensors let you press just a bit harder on the screen to open sub-menus and quick contextual commands. Apple demoed it with Maps, Mail, the camera, Facebook, Instagram, and Dropbox. Forceful presses launch commonly used features and scan information without leaving an app. And Siri is always listening now; she’ll respond to you simply saying “Hey Siri.”
Okay for all you Instagram/selfie obsessed people the new phones’ camera comes with the highest resolution sensors of any iPhone in the history of forever, with a whooping 12-megapixel main camera that records 4K video and a five-megapixel selfie camera that captures 1080p footage. There’s also a new Live Photos feature that uses 3D Touch to animate your still images. When you take a picture, the camera records a short burst of 12-megapixel images to create that clip; it also adds a bit of animation to the process of flipping through your Photo roll.
With all of this a better processor is needed, so both iPhones will come with the new A9 processor and M9 co-processor. The new A9 is said to be 70 percent faster than the last-generation A8, and graphics performance has jumped 90 percent in the new iPhones.
Apple also claims its Touch ID sensor, the fingerprint reader in the iPhone home button, is faster and more precise. The reader is an important piece of the verification puzzle for the company’s Apple Pay system.
Still I use iPhone 5c I think it is time I upgrade. So if you want to upgrade as well then you can preorder this Friday September 12 and the phones is said to ship out from September 25. The pricing? iPhone 6S will go for $649 (16GB), $749 (64GB), and $8499 (128GB). The iPhone 6S Plus is priced at $749 (16GB), $849 (64GB), and $949 (128GB).
Apple has teamed up with Hermes to make the Apple Watch even more luxurious, and they are very unapologetic about it. This collaboration will introduce a special edition watch.
The Hermes straps and faces will be available at select stores in October, and while they probably won’t be cheap, they will look pretty great with that new anodized gold finish
iPad Pro, Smart Keyboard, and Apple Pencil
Apple announced the iPad Pro as well. The iPad Pro is massively larger than the Air. It is a full 12.9-inch tablet. The Pro has a full-size software keyboard, which it can easily house, since it’s 12.9-inches diagonally and it’s as wide as the iPad Air is tall. “It’s the most advanced display we have ever built,” says Apple Senior VP Phil Schiller, who says the screen has 5.6 million pixels, which is more than the 15-inch MacBook pro with Retina Display.
Apple also announced the Smart Keyboard, an accessory keyboard for the Pro. It has three circle connectors on the side called Smart Connectors which carry power and data and connects magnetically to keyboard.
Apple also showed off a new stylus called the Apple Pencil (which Samsung mocked by the way). Apple says it has “optimal accuracy” and can capture more of a single stroke than your average stylus thanks to sensors built into the tip. The idea is that Apple Pencil feels and works much more like a normal stylus. It’s so precise, it’s supposed to be able to “touch a single pixel.”
The iPad Pro will be available for $799 (32GB/Wi-Fi), $949 (128GB/Wi-Fi), and $1,049 (128GB/Wi-Fi + Cellular) in November.
The Apple Pencil will be available in November, at $99
