ID help, pretty please! This caterpillar and the tent it has built was found in an organic Chaenomeles japonica (Japanese quince, from family Rosaceae, little researched but locally somewhat common cultivated plant) orchard in Latvia (Northeast Europe). Tent is full of frass and last year’s leaves and they seemed to come out of the tent, I suspect for pupation, as they weren’t really interested in munching the new leaves. We took some in for rearing, but honestly, I have never reared leps, so I’m kinda at loss here. There is little research on Chaenomeles japonica pests, it’s generally thought they share them with apple trees, but I have been comparing the larva with every single listed apple lep, and no match so far!
I suspect it to be Trichiura cartaegi, but still would love some input. The larvae I’m trying to rear, have grown significantly over the wekend, munch on leaves and spew greenish liquid if handled
