There’s a lot of ideas for how Rocky and Eridians speak and things that translate differently bc of the wide range music can lend to their language. I love the idea of them singing very similar things but slight differences in key or whatever can change the tone while keeping the words the same. Mostly bc I can’t stop thinking of Rocky by habit using a very affectionate tone with Grace.

Almost like putting a tone indicator at the end that just says he adores him or something. Grace is sweet he can’t help it. He switches to frustration v fast when Grace is being an idiot and not taking care of himself, but his name stays the same.

I’m picturing Rocky introducing Erid to Grace and trying to keep a formal tone but then by habit when he says Grace’s name it’s super affectionate and he has to restrain himself from slamming his carapace against the nearest wall for that slip up. Everyone heard that

grace teaches 8th grade in the science department like he does canonically and simon teaches 8th grade in the science department as well

rocky teaches engineering in the stem pathway

adrian is a school counselor

adrian runs the cyber patriots club and they lowkey sweep every competition. they were torn between teaching in the stem pathway, but they liked the one on one time they got with the kids.

grace runs a small environmental science club and they clean trash in parks on the weekends and go to museums and aquariums for small little field trips. he likes seeing how enthusiastic the kids get and being able to sprinkle in fun facts while exploring

simon runs a garden club after seeing the abysmal state that the garden was in when he first got hired, he wanted to revitalize the plant life and also encourage the students to learn more about plants. it makes him feel close to his mom

rocky helps with the school's small theater department and helps with technical aspects. he focuses more on set design and props. he loves creating things and he love helping the kids find a passion in also creating things. the kids call him mr.rocky

rocky is mute and uses an AAC to talk, and instead of manually typing things out, he has a crap ton of preset words. he likes spamming "amaze" when his students get a question right

rocky and simon were new hires, rocky befriended grace immediately after he heard through teacher gossip about him calling someone a "staggering waste of carbon"

simon and grace become friends slowly and later down the line, but once they did they collaborated on lesson plans and brainstormed on how to make things more fun for the kids

grace keeps his classroom open during lunch and simon and rocky also visit

the students ship grace and simon but never know if anything is actually happening bc they keep their personal lives so private

adrian and rocky are gross about eachother and they're madly in love, every student and staff member knows it

rocky is totally the type of teacher to barge in on grace in the middle of a lesson and make fun of him so the kids laugh

simon will visit the office after school hours are done and chat with adrian. adrian will tell him office gossip, and simon will him teacher gossip.

Imagine Grace, Rocky, Simon on Grace's ship. Grace is working in the lab as Rocky guards the doorway. Keeping Simon out. "I'm sorry," is all Simon can say. Grace looks up from the microscope with a smile. "I'm not." Studying Grace's eyes, Simon searches for any hint of red. "Why?" he finally asks, voice a little broken. "Because Grace stupid," Rocky stomps, the translator mangling their speech. "Grace being not smart. Grace not understand, statement." "No," Grace drawls. "I know what's happening. It's an infection of sorts, one that seems to involve some kind of quantum entanglement." He smirks. "And while I'm not a quantum physicist, I am a molecular biologist. Years ago back when I worked in cubicle land, we were hiring junior software developers. They didn’t have to have a ton of experience, just a willingness to learn, and some demonstration of their software skills. Like: show me a program you wrote (any language) or a web site you designed. Anything.

And there was this one guy I talked with who seemed super sharp, but had virtually zero experience writing software. When it came time to do the show-n-tell part of the interview he whips out his laptop, brings up a website, and spins it around to show me what he made.

A website of tiny ceramic frogs.

Not for sale. Just… all these ceramic frogs, organized into categories. Frogs on bicycles, frogs with hats, frogs sitting on lily pads. It was a virtual museum of ceramic frogs in web form.

I scrolled through his online collection of frogs, slightly baffled.

“This is your website?” I asked finally.

“Yep!”

“You coded this yourself?” I popped into view-source mode and poked around some incredibly well-formatted, well-commented html. I nodded slowly. This guy was meticulous.

“Yep!”

“So… where’d all the frogs come from?”

“I made those too,” he says, beaming. 

And while I’m processing this he rummages in his bag and pulls out a little ceramic frog working at a computer terminal. He places it on the table before us, next to the laptop.

“And THIS one,” he says, “I made for you! As a thank you for the interview.”

It was adorable. I hired him on the spot. I mean, why not? Worst case he’d wash out in 90 days and we’d hire somebody else. He turned out to be one of the best developers on our team. 

And yes, his cubicle was loaded with ceramic frogs.
