Simon escaped from a violent cult and almost died and Grace got onto a research project that ended up almost killing him, wound up being illegal and was administered that amnesiac French drug and kidnapped where he met Rocky and they both escaped together.

They are all trying to live a normal life and Simon and Grace are both trying to fool the other into thinking they are sooooo normal. They’re like the most normal guy. And terrified the other will find out their sketchy past and get freaked out.
