A Shift in Perspective
What makes a main entrance a main entrance? And what if there is no main entrance anymore? What if all that is left is a ‘main exit’ and the side entrance becomes the only way into the building?
Does that make us less anxious about entering a place full of lunatics?
Madness in three Acts
Act 3 - Paradiso Act 2 - Purgatorio Act 1 - Inferno
Act 1 - The Amphitheater of Sanity
That’s the group opposite to the individuum. The audience and the Joker. The „us” and „them” way of thinking. Inferno is about the first contact, about bringing those two groups together to start weakening the boundaries between normal and abnormal. The group is still there and provides safety but the ties are not as strong anymore and the process of questioning preconceptions has started.
Inferno is the scenery, the facade on a stage. It hides and disguises, it makes us believe what it isn’t. It’s a play, a well told fairytale in which a line on the floor can easily be mistaken as an abyss.
Act 2 - The Apartment of the Mad
A Child Lost: A Henrietta and Inspector Howard Novel by Michelle Cox
„People with money don’t end up here, do they? If yer rich and crazy, people call you eccentric or something like that and yer relatives stick you away somewhere in yer big ol’house and get some biddy to look after ya. But if yer poor and crazy, well, yer not so lucky then, are ya?” He bent to unlock the door at the top of the stairs, and Henrietta momentarily thought of Ma in light of Joe’s explanation. Could she be considered eccentric, or worse, crazy?
Act 3 - The Market Square
Paradise is a different sphere, a different kind of enemy. People with people breaking down arguments like mirrors break down the spectra of light. Scattering and focusing at the same time. We converge and collide with the hope to leave an imprint on the other while contemplating the imprint they left on us.
Act 1 - The Amphitheater of Sanity
We enter a forest and are met with three beasts. One is on the walls, the second underneath our feet and the third we hear shouting hidden somewhere in the back of this place. There is no path that leads us through this maze, just a voice calling us.
Act 2 - The Apartment of the Mad
Walking on a mountain path of formerly liquid stone, surrounded by sulfury, yellow moss and heads caught between the states of matter. Step by step we move forward with daffodils covering our heads.
Act 3 - The Market Square
Arguments thrown around like paint splatter on a wall. Overlapping, overcasting, with or without blending into each other. Every word sending waves in all directions and yet, like an echo, just a repetition of old waves.
