mina-chan

She’s alarmed at the sudden thud to the side of her head, squinting suspiciously at the balled up napkin by her feet when her wandering eyes land on it. A graceful bend and upright bring it between her fingers. She almost mumbles in surprise to see scribbles between the scrunches, and reads it carefully before dark eyes once again turn upwards as an eyebrow does the same.

He’s easy to spot - he’s the grumpiest face behind a cup and a treat she’s ever seen. An affectionate, albeit confused, smile crosses her face, and she turns away for just a moment to delicately place a few more sweets on a plate, then gliding to his table with the same genuine smile hanging from her lips.

“ Good day. ” She says slowly, recounting what little Japanese she knew to talk to him. It’s harder than she expects, and her sentences are broken by thoughtful pauses and increasingly desperate motions. “ It’s good to meet you. My name is Mina, we spoke through emails. ”

her swap to japanese was endearing, honestly.

𝄢  「 my korean isn’t the best, but i can probably hold a conversation better in korean with you. don’t worry about it. 」

he nibbled on his snack again; locking his phone and placing it on the table before taking a sip of his coffee. looking at her for a moment, he tucked a lock of hair behind his ear from his fringe; grinning.

𝄢  「 heh, yeah, we’ve talked both in emails and in messenger. 」

crossing a leg over his other one, the idol glances at the vibrating phone next to him - his sister’s name comes flashing across, and he denies access to calling him; quickly texting her that he was busy and would call her back later. returning his gaze back to mina, he smiles again.

𝄢  「 kagamine len. you can just call me len - most do, anyway. nice to formally meet you, mina-chan. 」

the japanese honorific was added on, a blue eye winking at her in a playful manner.

miss lady

this is probably awkward for the both of them. she isn’t exactly his target demographic, but it is probably refreshing for him not to have to deal with screaming teenagers who probably care more about his visuals and the fanservice he performs than his actual talent. 

“ah, i hope i am not bothering you.” she gave him her usual soft smile, replying in japanese instead of korean. probably making this easier for him than to stumble in a language he doesn’t really know. she isn’t fluent in his language, but, she has enough knowledge and skill to hold a conversation. having to learn it to make it easier to communicate with others from japan that visit her events.

“this may be odd to ask of you as we do not know each other.” she extended a hand that held an envelope in it. on the front of it, it says ‘r.f.a’ written in cursive. “i wanted to invite you to my association as an official member.” the envelope holds the contract and the official invitation to her organization. “it is a fundraising organization. if you join our ranks, i believe it will benefit the both of us.”

a fundraising organization... for him to join. how strange.

𝄢  「 are you sure you want someone like me? 」

his reply was in japanese, using simple words to make it easier for them to communicate. but he stood from his seat, taking the envelope quietly as he opened it up; reading over it quietly. it seemed interesting - and benefiting to both of them. but after a moment, he frowned; glancing at her.

𝄢  「 so you’re doing a fundraising organization. cool. good deeds and all. but why would i need a benefit to join? surely you think of me better than that. 」

len soon pulled out a pen; signing the contract before sliding it back.

𝄢  「 i’m joining. but not because you said it would benefit me. because i want to join out of my own want to make the world a better place. 」

the blond idol took out his hair; shaking it out before adjusting the ponytail and tying his hair back up. playing with the invitation itself, he glanced up at her.

𝄢  「 so... miss. i believe a proper introduction is in need. my name is kagamine len, an idol of cfm studios back in sapporo, japan. i know i look young and tiny, but i’m 21. and you are? 」

he held out a yellow finger nailed hand; smiling softly at her.

G-Go to his dressing room? Was that okay? D-Did he want her to strip in exchange for helping find Nanami?  “Okay…” She followed the singer back to his dressing room. He was right, nobody bothered them as they walked their way there. They were inside and the door closed and Mikan had no idea what she was supposed to be doing?  “T-Thank you for offering to help me find Nanami-san. I um, is there anything I can do to repay you?” she hoped to get a better idea of the singers intentions. 

𝄢  「 eh? no, you don’t need to do anything - why do you think that? 」

the statement was a confused one, his body disappearing behind a curtain of sorts before the stage clothes are tossed to the side, regular a thin hand coming from behind the curtain in order to grab the washcloth and water bottle, along with a thing of deodorant and c o l o g n e.

a quick rub down would be better than nothing. undoing his hair, he continued to wipe himself down; adding deodorant and a light spritz of cologne in order to keep himself from smelling bad for n o w. slipping fingers through his hair to untangle it, he messed with his bangs again before redressing.

stepping out from behind the curtains again, his hair still down; len tilted his head.

𝄢  「 i didn’t know that helping people required being paid back. it’s just a good deed - good deeds don’t need to be repaid. 」

a yellow finger nailed hand gently patted the girl’s head; a grin passing the idol’s face.

  “  Busan?  ” SHE questioned, raising her hand which held a cell phone.       An app which held the train schedules was pulled up, before she turned       it’s face towards the stranger.  “ I’d take the train. It’s about a three hour       trip. The new train leaves in about thirty minutes.  ”

      THE app showed quickest routes and alternatives. It was quite a handy       way to get around, especially when the introvert always had a habit of       getting LOST.

  “  Do you want me to show you?  ”

𝄢  「 yeah, that’d be lovely. my korean isn’t the best; as i think you can tell... 」

len offered her a soft smile; playing with his phone. a train - luckily, he had four hours to get there, so an hour of getting prepared and sight-seeing in busan would be perfect if he left for this next train.

𝄢  「 i have four hours to get there, so i figured going now would be best - leaves me an hour to get ready to meet and greet as well as see around busan for a bit. 」

chuckling, the japanese idol stretched and brushed his fringe back; before it fell right back in his face. of course - his hair could never listen when he wanted it to, but when a hair stylist wanted it to listen it was suddenly tame.

the call from his manager that the fans who’d gotten the vip tickets were there was annoying him, causing the idol to turn from his lyrics sheet - annoyed at his manager, not at his fans - and pause for a moment. he’d expected teenagers - not a fully grown woman.

𝄢  「 oh, hello !! so you wanted to meet me, huh? 」

len’s korean was definitely at a basic high school level - he had a good grasp of the language, and knew most general words for casual conversations and whatnot - but he definitely did not have a full grasp of the language. his accent was rather rough, at that.

he waited for her response; setting down the lyrics sheet and blinking a few times.

Mikan was helped to her feet, she blinked the tears that had been forming in the sides of her eyes away as the singer called his security guards off. She was surprised he’d take the time to notice them there, or that he’d been able to see them that clearly from the stage. She’d been sure that the lights were too bright and would cause damage to the singers eyes.  “T-That’s right…my friend Nanami-san is a huge fan and she a-asked me to buy her tickets for her birthday.” as it had turned out actually, she hadn’t had to spend a cent because Komaeda had somehow won front seat tickets but hadn’t been interested in going some he’d given the girls the tickets instead.  She bowed when he offered to help her find Nanami, “Thank you so much. I w-was really getting scared because I couldn’t find her.” 

𝄢  「 ah. well, you guys had the winning front seat tickets, so that’s why it was easier for me to memorize your faces. 」

len hummed a bit; before stretching for a moment and placing his hands behind his head. lacing yellow-nailed fingers together, the idol hummed before grinning at her.

𝄢  「 so! let me just get changed and we’ll go find your friend, right? 」

one of the guards went to say something, which made len round on his heel and give them a grin that just read ‘don’t stop me’. the guard fell back, unfortunately forced to listen to the idol - their boss.

𝄢  「 you can come with me for now. if you’re with me, no one will ask weird shit. 」

it must sound weird, hearing someone mumbling in japanese to himself. but that’s what len was doing, seated at a cafe in seoul. sipping from a carefully decorated cup of coffee, the idol sighed loudly before nibbling on the coffee ice cream macaron as carefully as possible - the thing was huge, and cold despite the deliciously crunchy crusts.

𝄢  「 uwaa... this messenger is a little annoying to work with... but it’s nice. 」

his words were in korean this time, eyes glancing upwards. wasn’t that girl - from the messenger? maybe? balling up a napkin after writing something in rather shaky, childish korean; he threw it at her - beaning her straight in the head. perfect.

the note was simple:

nice job hyun ryu, you made the boy self-conscious about his singing abilities. after a moment, he pauses; frowning before glaring up at him.

Mikan wasn’t big into music, but Nanami had swore that this singer was amazing…totally one of her favorites. So she’d dragged Mikan to the concert, as it happened…after the performance was done. She’d lost Nanami and now she was lost and scared and on the verge of tears.  “H-How big is this concert hall…” she hoped to find her friend, instead she bumped into a blond young man and fell to the floor. “I’m sorry!” she apologized before she could register anything else…then she registered too things…the boy she’d run into was the boy who’d just been on stage and she was now surrounded by security guards. 

𝄢  「 calm down, it was just an accident. 」

shooing off the guards, at least enough for both himself and the girl to breathe; he offered a hand. whilst helping her up; he placed his hand on her hip to steady her body. once len was sure she was steadied; he tilted his head a bit to one side to look up at her.

𝄢  「 hey, you were in the crowd right? with that pink haired girl with the cat backpack. 」

observation was always a skill of his; and after all - with all the fan meet ups, one got used to memorizing faces at a quick glance. it didn’t help that they were directly in the front row, and the pink haired girl looked tired - but too aptly awake to sleep. the girl next to her - the girl now in front of him - had seemed nervous and anxious. as if she’d never been to a concert before. he hummed for a moment.
