i bitch about elon on twitter because that's elonland. we bitch about taylor on tumblr because she is LITERALLY inescapable here. swifties have unironically called her “the only ethical billionaire”. people aren't just allowed to be angry at billionaires in a world of insane inequality, people need to be angry at them. if you aren't, you are complacent, you're accepting their boots on all of our necks.
“she works hard” and “she doesn't work 20,000 times harder than an average working adult” are both true statements. either she thinks she deserves all the wealth she's hoarding or she knows she doesn't and is hoarding it anyway. it doesn't make a difference because they're both evil, one is pride and one is gluttony. being a billionaire is an active choice made every single day to do infinitesimally less for the suffering of the world than you can, all in the service of ego and luxuries.
“she gave [small % of her wealth] to charity” and “she has her merch made in places notorious for slavery and child labor and there's no transparency about what factories are used” are both true statements. "she needs extra security because she's famous" and "she doesn't need 8 homes during a housing crisis" are both true statements. "taylor swift is a powerful woman in an extremely misogynistic world" and "taylor swift rarely lifts a finger to use that power and influence for causes that don't have a link to taylor swift" are both true statements.
people need to be LOUDER about this stuff if we want there to ever be change. don't you want there to be change? why is preserving your positive feelings about a powerful person more important to you than your desire for positive change?
instead of just accepting your parasocial relationship where you take it personally when people say negative things about a billionaire stranger, try actively working to disentangle your identity from her, to disentangle your self worth from how much public praise or criticism she gets. putting distance between yourself and a, lets face it, brand that you've attached yourself to isn't as fun and easy as going along for the ride, but for way way too many swifties it's necessary and it will only get harder the longer you wait.
