Stephen Colbert's 'Late Show' run will come to an end next year as CBS cancels franchise

The decision "is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount," the network said.

The network said it was purely a financial decision, and they're not replacing Colbert, they're just ending "The Late Show" in its entirety. But the article notes this...

I certainly damn well hope that there's just some financial troubles going on, and that they're not actually cancelling and censoring someone who's been a vocal Trump critic for the past decade. I haven't watched Colbert nightly in quite a while, but he didn't nearly play into the "both sides" bullshit as much as other late night hosts and Jon Stewart. I remember when he was doing the show from his house during the pandemic, which was fun to watch (that's when the audience got to see his wife, and found out they have a really cute dynamic, leading her to make guest appearances on the show for holidays), and I remember him just dragging Trump and the RNC to hell and back during the 2020 campaign. Even if there's nothing fishy about this cancellation, it's a shame to lose a consistent, vocal anti-Trump voice on mainstream television
