Hey, question for all the people out there that utilize/write captions.
In a video where audio is applied to characters that weren't originally associated with the audio, how would you go about captioning it? Let say for example i was doing a fandom classic "Who broke it" animatic with star trek tos characters. Here's a link to the audio. Would it better to:
#A: Caption it identical to how you would caption the original, just with titles swapped, so the audience knows who's speaking. Ex:
KIRK: So, who broke it? I'm not mad, I just want to know.
MCCOY: I did, I broke it.
KIRK: No. No you didn't. Tom?
CHEKOV: Don't look at me! Look at Ben!
SULU: What? I didn't break it.
#B: Caption it with names changed for more clarity, at the risk of obscuring the actual audio.
KIRK: So, who broke it? I'm not mad, I just want to know.
MCCOY: I did, I broke it.
KIRK: No. No you didn't. Chekov?
CHEKOV: Don't look at me! Look at Sulu!
SULU: What? I didn't break it.
#C: Caption it with changed names and edit things to fit better in universe. Probably too far? Let me know what you think. (Using a different bit of dialogue for this one.)
SPOCK: If it matters, probably not, but Nurse Chapel was the last one to use it.
CHAPEL: Liar! I don't even eat that crap!
SPOCK: Oh really? Then what were you doing by the replicator earlier?
CHAPEL: I use the wooden stirrers to push back my cuticles. Everyone knows that, SPOCK!
MCCOY: Okay, let's not fight. I broke it, let me pay for it Jim.
KIRK: No! Who broke it?
