It was getting late and Alastor felt trapped. His mother had been fussing over ever since he’d arrived at their home. “Mum it’s fine.” He protested as she hurried over to him with another bowl of soup. She insisted he looked gaunt, placing it on the small square table in front of him. “Sit Alastor, you need to build your strength up.”
“Really you just fed me I’m-” He started in an exasperated tone but she quickly interrupted him. Tutting and placing another spoon in his hand. “Alastor you look pale and tired you must-”
“Enough!” He blurted out, raising his voice and slamming the spoon back down on the table. His mother jumped back from him in surprise, tears welling up in her eyes. He pushed himself out from the table, apologising immediately. The wave of guilt hit him as he grabbed his jacket. “Look I’m sorry I-I’ll be back.” The words came out in a rush as he struggled not to sprint out of the kitchen.
“But you only just got here.” She whispered at his back, letting the tears stream down her cheeks.
Alastor burst out of his childhood home and ran over to his motorbike. He could barely breath. Sometimes that woman was too much. Alastor shook his head roughly, no, she didn’t deserve that. He mounted the bike and revved the engine, speeding off into the night. A good ride on the dark, empty roads would be enough to clear his head. Sometimes it became it a little too intense when he visited home. His mother was not the same woman that she had been before his fathers death. He just had to remember that her overbearing nature wasn’t her fault. She just worried for her son. For the only man left in her life. Alastor revved his bike, pushing it to go faster.
He felt the wind in his hair. Shit. He hadn’t even put a helmet on. Well he wasn’t stupid. The blonde man new when it was time to quit. He slowed down abruptly, pulling into the side of the road. If he disapperated home, he’d be able to pick up his helmet and return in a flash. At least that’s what he had planned when he spotted someone stumbling through the field in a golden dress. “What the hell?” He voiced his thoughts ahead, dismounting his bike. He pushed the bike along, keeping the engine running so that his headlights would illuminate the figure in the distance. “Hey!” He shouted, calling out to them when he thought he saw them stumble. “Aw shit.” He groaned, jumping the fence and running towards them.
He just about reached the woman as she fell forwards, “easy there.” He said, catching her with ease. That’s odd. He recognised her. Who the hell would be out in Orkney that he recognised from back home? His other home that was… Alastor tried to straighten her up, but she wavered in front of him uneasily. “Are you drunk?” He asked, frowning before looking at their surroundings. Whatever this girl was she was in trouble. They were in the middle of no where. Anything could have happened if he wasn’t here.
