I get the pleasure to table at Anime Expo 2017 thanks to @utas-art!  She’s splitting her table with me and I am more than excited to experience a big convention like this for the first time.  Please go check out her artwork!  She does amazing digital watercolor and it’s phenomenal! 

This is also where I’ll be debuting my “I Heart Monsters” brand!  I’ll have shirts, butttons, stickers, prints, plus other awesome stuff that can be encompassed in the “I Heart Monsters” brand!

Hey, your art is amazing. I'm so grateful that my girlfriend recommended you to me! I wanted to ask, what recommendations do you have for mastering anatomy and facial proportions? I know you mentioned gesture drawing in a similar ask, anything else?

Take a look at Andrew Loomis’ books, they’re really good, and IMO easy to understand.

Other than books and actual classes, try drawing from life; if you can’t, movie/series stills. Don’t draw from animated stuff/comic books because most likely those are stylized already.

it sounds like ur not starting ur canvas at 300 dpi (bigger res size) and that ur saving them as jpegs which would cause the res to shrink when u save. save as png to assure ur dpi and res doesnt change, and change the dpi BEFORE u start drawing

Photoshop files for me by default start at 150 DPI and 2-3k canvas size (I might change it around as I work though) but by the end of a piece it always ends up at 72.0-some number??Though I always save as png format by default because it’s a lossless compression format and I dislike seeing the artifacts that jpgs leave behind

Look at 150 dpi as a 1:1 scale ratio. So if you don’t increase your pixel size your final product can only fit to that 2-3k pixel space when printed. However of you alter just your dpi to 300 it increases how large you can print, which is roughly 3 times the file size. 

I do a lot of printing, so I’ve reset my default PS canvas size to 300 DPI at 2550 x 3300. This is a 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper that can print upwards to 24″ x 36″ poster. So if you want to start making a lot of print friendly art I would suggest either resetting your default size or getting into the habit of selecting a preset canvas with a higher DPI setting.

As far as jpgs altering the size that will only occur if you don’t maximize the file while saving. Though pngs are the best file format to chose when you want something to print.
