STUDENT PRESENTATIONS - OLIVIA - Subject: Nomad Studio/ Nancy Mauro-Flude. Synopsis: Opened with intensely interwoven narrative A/V piece collab between Nomad studio/PLaFon, moved onto an exploratory interest in the live sound and performance works of Nancy Mauro-Flude, showed clips from works ranging 6 years, talked about the qualities and mixes of media/content and ideas that are in the work, the movement between and of electronics, bodies, light, theatricality.

STUDENT PRESENTATIONS - MICHAEL - Subject: GX-Jupitter Larsen .
Synopsis: Background to long-running noise project and band, The Haters. Short web clips chronologically show the concerns of the work: entropy, post-industrialism, the machine-aesthetic, harsh noise, spectacle. Discussed tropes/recurrent themes in the work. Branched out to collaborations and wrapped up with 'Aerosol' a collaborative work that fuses the concerns together artists concerns. Masked A/V Impro Havoc
STUDENT PRESENTATIONS - DARCY - Subject: The Avalanches. Synopsis: Insightful brief background to group, why it was of interest, how it related to re-mix/mash-up/sampling. Cool isolation of samples used in 'Frontier Psychiatrist' (groups breakthrough track) compared with Section of finished track. Discussed placement within whole album, isolation as 'radio hit'. Lineage of some samples/legal issues.

TURNTABLE - Technics Standard - breakdown - parts, interactions, uses/misuses.
RECORD TYPES - 'found sound', spoken word/radio broadcast/comedy/battle records
'DIGGING' - A crate of discarded records, looking for gems/usuable samples/obscure sounds.
KEYS - Roland full scale key synth, inputs/outputs. KORG Monotron Ribbon Synth - DEMO
ROLAND SH-3A Analog Synth - description of sections, I/O - DEMO
MICRO-TEC - Monotron/Lecci Mixer/
NO-INPUT - DEMO on Tapco 4 channel mixer.
Scratching/Cutting - One channel demo, volume/crossfader uses, Slipmat, Tuning, Pitch Bends, Students had good old play with Sample records, 'scratching is like patting a kitten'
MIDI - Basic MIDI kb rundown, Evolution.
Today was ANALOG/HARDWARE day - after weeks of screen and machine based working, discussion, listening and viewing sessions post task 1, today was about actual gear, things with 3 dimensions.
break time - the keen record diggers. This discarded crate held a few gems - old research records on oceanography. 1st rule of crate digging - get in first! Nearby black shoulder is manipulating turntable.
