Media Log 3: True Colors (commercial)

  When asked what is my favorite commercials, there's no doubt that this Dove commercial would always find a spot among my top 3. The video is only 47 seconds but portrays a very strong meaning. Dove is a well known brand around the world and with this step, it's very huge help for our society to be exposed to the truth. Every day is a struggle for each girl of different race in the world. We are what society makes us. Society is very powerful but these powers are oftentimes used to destroy what we believe we are capable of in replacement of a belief that we are limited to what the society thinks what we should do.  

 The background song in the commercial compliments the message portrayed in the video.

True colors it is, this is the message of the song along with the video.The song is pretty catchy too and it perfectly blends with the actors expressions. I really like this video because as a girl, I know well how it feels to struggle every day to fit the image that society has portrayed. All of us have our own flaws but these flaws makes us different from others. It's the one who separates us among others and I think the concept of beauty is too restricted and only applies on certain individuals. Beauty should not be generalized, because it is based on the eyes of the beholder. We have our own preferences and everyone in this world has beauty in them;But I think the society has made its way to corrupt our minds on what the concept of beauty should be. 

People might view this video as nothing but a complain on individual's flaws and having no satisfaction on themselves. Some even find it sexist because people are too caught up on what society tells us what is right.

This video is being sent to show us the situation young girls have to go through everyday. The pressure to be perfect in every aspect adds to the problems they have to mind aside from puberty. This video serves as an enlightenment and wake up call that everybody struggles and has their own insecurities and problems, despite the ideal that the society wants, we have to lean on to the positive things. That everything that is living has it's own beauty and purpose in this world.

Media Log 2: Slimtime (mini film)

Recently, I have been looking at the different videos through Youtube and I am very surprised to find interesting animated videos. This specific video has got to be one of my personal favorites as of now. The video is titled as "Slimtime", and it  begins with  a couple waiting to get their turn. The woman is on the round side while the man is on the thin side. While waiting they saw a very thin pair of legs walking pass by them, this showed an insight on what would happen after the slimming session of the woman. It didn't take long for the woman to be called and as the man waited for his lover he decided to go around and take a look on how things go inside the slimming center.

Different women of all sizes were shown in the video, they also showed how the slimming session was done. After touring the whole place, the man went back as soon as the slimming session was finished. He watched as the women of new body shapes pass him by and then one woman came out, but she is still in the same body shape as the video depicts. She approached his lover and shows off her new body shape which is still actually the same. I was expecting that his lover would react in a violent way because nothing changed at all, but to my surprise..the guy reached out for the woman's hands then the woman grabbed his shoulders and they both hugged affectionately. As they walk away, they walk with their arms placed on each other's shoulders. It didn't took long for me until I understood the message of the video.

The woman did get skinny, but the man views her as the same person that he has met before the slimming session. It shows that the man looks at her at the same way no matter what shape the woman is, for he loves her just the way she is. The moment that idea hit me, I am much in love with this animation! I think it is brilliant and well made, its plot is very creative, the art and portrayal is amazing! I wish people would actually take in the message of the video. That women should not be measured by numbers or whatever scale there is, but only to be measured by the amount of genuine love there is in our hearts.

Media Log 1: Atonement(film)

I’ve recently watched a film named Atonement (2007), starring Keira Knightley, James McAvoy, Saoirse Ronan, Brenda Blethyn. The film is based on Ian Mcewan’s acclaimed novel, it’s about 2 lovers being separated by a false accusation claimed by a child who believes that she understands everything that she sees. The film then follows the aftermath of the accusation and shows how it destroyed a lot of lives. Atonement has been named among the Top 10 Films of 2007 by the Austin Film Critics Association, the Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association, the National Board of Review, New York Film Critics Online, the Oklahoma Film Critics Circle, and the Southeastern Film Critics Association.

  I honestly do not watch films like this during my leisure time, but since this film was a required film to watch for one of my subjects I had no choice but to watch it. The film started out in a continuous typing from Briony’s typewriter. It amazes me how comforting the typewriter sounds and it blended well and became one of the main themes for the whole movie. Briony(Saoirse Ronan ) comes off as an intelligent child and I could easily relate to her curiosity and wild imagination. She was a child brewing answers to multiple questions thrown at her, different instances where she tries to grasp the situation in the most clever way she could. However, she was blinded by her hate against to what’s happening and made a very wrong accusation. The moment Robbie (James McAvoy) was held captive by the cops and was taken away from Cecilia(Keira Knightley ), I know very well that it was the turning point of their lives. The story went on, showing the hardships that the lovers had to undergo. Their separation throughout the movie and the constant flashbacks kept me intrigued, it was like the whole movie was split into two, before and after.The lack of presence and overflowing of absence between the two lovers made Briony guilty about what she have done. She grew up and gave up everything that she could possibly just to repent on the sins she have done to the lovers. She seek forgiveness however she was much of a coward to muster up courage to ask for one. She lived her whole life writing a book about the things that had happened in the past, where she recalls all the wrong doings she have done. In the book, she made a fictional ending, despite the truth that both lovers died and was never together again. She ended the book with them finding each other to fill up the absence that haunted them for years. Throughout the movie it showed a person’s repentance on something that could be seen as light back then, but actually had heavy consequences in the future. The title “Atonement” is very fitting, because throughout the whole film, Briony’s actions echoed a hunger for forgiveness and trust that she could never have.
