EXCLUSIVE: As they release a new version of their second album, Queen legends Brian May and Roger Taylor speak with Daily Express about thei
A few weeks ago, Queen fans were thrilled to discover an original song had quietly launched on the band's official YouTube channel. Featuring no footage, just a jet black background, the husky vocals of the band's drummer pulled no punches with his words: “A man of no morality of no real quality… We’re drowning in your lies”. The individual Roger Taylor was referring to in his no-holds-barred lyrics from his new solo single, Chumps, is none other than US President Donald Trump. “We get force-fed this orange maniac daily,” he says today in his smoky voice, speaking on the phone from his personal studio at his country pile. “Virtually everything he says is a lie, an untruth or an exaggeration, and he just seems to daily compound his maniacal monstrousness. I mean, he's just the most awful person.”

Oof. OOF. This back up story in New Mutants annual #6 is about the soul of Doug Ramsey. As we all know, Doug was killed back in New Mutants #60, and after a brief reanimation mishap, he’s stayed completely dead since then. For a comic book, it’s quite unusual that Doug, a major character, hasn’t been brought back to life, or hasn’t secretly been alive this whole time, or hasn’t become the subject of some other canonical bullshit that would permit him to reclaim his place in the story. Also unusual for a comic, Doug’s loss was never swept under the carpet and forgotten about. It’s had a lasting impact on the series and the characters who loved him. We’ve witnessed mourning and grief, and sadness that has crossed into several different X-Men comic books. So, for as permanent as Doug’s death has felt, I was surprised to see this story actually provide further character development after his death. And what’s poor Doug been doing since he got killed? Has he found a place in heaven, and found peace after his many adventures and tragic death? No. His soul is still on Earth, in the graveyard, tethered to his god damned corpse, unable to leave, unable to change, and unable to rest. Apparently, he’s been sentenced to an eternity in purgatory, the only brief respites from which come in the all too few and far in-between visits from his former friends. This, is fucking terrifying.
Hey guys, what’s she saying? You can probably understand her because YOU’VE BEEN DEAD LONGER. Fucking. Terrifying. And why is this so relatable!!! I’m not dead!!! Am I? Why does it feel like I’ve experienced loss like this? I hope to Christ this isn’t what happens when you die. These are my Friday nights! Sitting around trying to have conversations with people that I’ve lost. Seeing their happy lives continue on Facebook. Talking to my dead dog. Doug can’t even look ahead to the possibilities of his own future like I should be doing BECAUSE HE’S FUCKING DEAD.
Good night. At the end of this comic Doug gives Rahne his blessing to live her life, and then he goes back to his fucking purgatory. Hey you’re in a comic book! At least tell her to go get Dr. Strange or the Ghost Rider or someone with some god damned necromancy skills that can free your soul from the fucking graveyard! I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to be stuck there forever no matter what your religion was! This story was real fucking heavy, man. (New Mutants Annual #6 – 1990)
Kitty tries to share the entries with Douglock... who still really doesn't care... and then she shares it with Kurt, which winds up being Doug's last entry before his death, where he talks about how he really wishes he could have a noble heroic death, something that could make him feel useful, to protect his friends...
This feels like it finally cements in Kitty's mind that Douglock != Doug. For now, at least.
Doug please whatever happens in AOR just keep your blond hair. dis is all i need despite everything.
