How can I reflect somebody’s needs into a design.

This is a thing that we had to do with te mastertest. We had to create and shape our own target group by doing research on your own. You had to create your own needs and goals that will form your idea. From the idea you had to design your own concept in form of a prototype. So the mastertest was perfect for this learning goal.

Learn about designing for small screens.

I designed multiple times for small screens like the iWatch. So in this course this is a skill that i developed but not yet mastered. I need to take more time for a project instead of finishing it in a few weeks.

I wanted to learn what UXD is and how I can use it in daily life.

I’ve learned a lot in the courses Cognitive Psychology and Seductive Interaction Design. So I’m very happy that i chose this minor, because otherwise I would have never learned these things.

What I’ve learned

Mastertest

With the mastertest we had to use all the things that we’ve learned during the last courses into one final design/concept. For this was the opportunity to do something new, something special. I choose to do use voice (future) in my concept. But this backfired at me. I didn’t work out as i thought it would. So I tried i did my best, but unfortunately not with the best end-result.

HCI Mastery

With HCI mastery i learned how to use the principles that we’ve learned at SID. I had to formulate different scenarios that use these seductive principles.

Seductive Interaction Design

In this course we learned about the principles of seduction. Actually it were the 6 principles of Chialdini. We had a few lectures from people out of the work field, that were very interesting. I learned a lot about how you can use principles to achieve your goal.

Small Screen Design

For small screen design we had to come up with a design for multiple devices. The case was the Not so smart home system. And the question was: how can we make it smart.

So we had to think of solutions in a short period of time and design the screens as well. The thing I’ve learned with SSD was developing a concept and translating it into a design the quick way.

USER EXPERIENCE

To figure out how our users think and do we had to develop “cultural probes”. Here i’ve learned to think of ways to get in the users head. How can i get the right information from the user. These are definitely things that i can use in the future.

Life is like a rollercoaster.
